20 Years of Hounds Soccer On the heels of a playoff campaign, Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC heads into a monumental season. This year will mark the team’s 20th anniversary of its inaugural season in 1999.

As the club steps forward into this historic season, head coach Bob Lilley will be at the helm for the second straight campaign. Under his guidance, the squad returns 10 players from last year, including longest-tenured Hound Kevin Kerr, All-League First Team selection Joe Greenspan and All-League Second Team honoree Kenardo Forbes.

Newly minted Hounds include a duo on the frontline, Steevan Dos Santos and Christian Volesky, who previously played under Lilley at the Rochester Rhinos. Ryan James also will reunite with Lilley for the 2019 season after competing under him while with the Rhinos.

Positional Outlook

The Hounds return one goalkeeper and acquired another via loan. Kyle Morton returns for his second straight season with the club, looking to build off of a campaign that he started three games before GK sustaining a season-ending knee injury. Ben Lundgaard arrives via loan from Columbus Crew SC of MLS. In his first season with the club,Uchenna Uzo will be featured in the squad’s center back rotation with Adewole and Greenspan.

Positioned along the Monongahela River with the skyline of Pittsburgh overshadowing its pitch, Highmark Stadium has served as the home of Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC since its opening in 2013.

One of the premier venues in the Steel City, Highmark all-time scoring leaders Stadium broke ground on June 25, 2012. In six seasons played at Highmark Stadium, the Hounds have a 39-34-27 overall record at the venue. In 2018, the club hosted its first-ever playoff match on its turf – a defeat to Bethlehem Steel FC in a shootout.

At the time of its construction, the venue’s FIFA 2- certified artificial turf was one of only six fields to earn that designation in the .

This past year, Highmark Stadium underwent two different seating additions. The first one involved placing seats along the Monongahela River whereas the second addition expanded the grandstand on the East End of the venue.

On game days, the club is cheered on faithfully by its supporter’s group, the Steel Army, which is located in the Paul Child Grandstand that can be found on the East End of the stadium.

#UNLEASH 5 Head Coach Bob Lilley

Announced as the club’s 10th head coach in its history on Nov. 14, 2017, Bob Lilley will enter his second season at the helm for Riverhounds SC.

During his first campaign with the club, Lilley led the Hounds to a 15-5-14 ecord,r which includes the second-highest win total in team history. The squad also posted a club-record 17 shutouts during regular season play. Under his guidance, the team placed third in the Eastern Conference en route to hosting its first-ever playoff match at Highmark Stadium.

Lilley came to Pittsburgh after coaching the USL-side Rochester Rhinos, which he led during two separate stints (2014-17 and 2010-11). In his six seasons with the Rhinos, Lilley compiled an 82- 39-51 regular season record, which includes a 2015 mark of 17-1-10 en route to winning Coach of the Year honors and the USL Cup. He also was named Coach of the Year in 2010, when Rochester won the USSF Division 2 Professional League regular season title. The Rhinos made the playoffs in he Lilley File every season under Lilley and achieved at least a fourth-round finish in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open T Cup from 2014-17. Experience: 19th year (Second with PIT) Before joining the Rhinos ahead of their 2010 season, Lilley spent the 2007-08 campaign as head coach of the Ignition of the Major League (MISL). He earned Coach of the Date Hired: Year honors, as the Ignition logged a 22-8 record and won the league’s regular season champion- November 14, 2017 ship.

Alma Mater: For three seasons (2005-07), Lilley served as head coach for the Whitecaps of the USL George Mason University, 1987 First Division. While with the club, he guided the Whitecaps to a 33-20-31 overall regular season record and a league championship in 2006. Hometown: Fort Monmouth, NJ From 2002-03, Lilley was the head coach for the Impact of the USL A-League. He direct- ed the club to the playoffs both years and amassed a regular season record of 32-15-9, in addition Birthdate: May 2, 1966 to winning Coach of the Year honors in 2003. The Fort Monmouth, native began his head-coaching career with the Hershey All-Time Record: 270-133-111 Wildcats, which he led from 1997-01. In his five seasons with the USL A-League club, he compiled an 86-46-6 overall regular season record and was named Coach of the Year in 1997, his first-ever campaign as a head coach. He also has won two league titles and earned Coach Head coach, 2007-08 of the Year honors five times. In 2010, he was inducted into the USL Hall of Fame as a coach. Vancouver Whitecaps Head coach, 2005-07 Lilley played professionally with the of the American Soccer League from 1989-90 Montreal Impact (two seasons) and the of the American Professional Soccer League in 1991 (one Head coach, 2002-03 season). He also played professional indoor soccer with the Hershey Impact of the National Hershey Wildcats Head coach, 1997-01 Professional Soccer League (NPSL) from 1988-91 (three seasons), the Harrisburg Heat of the NPSL from 1991-97 (six seasons) and the Pittsburgh Stingers of the Continental Indoor Soccer League in Accolades: 1994 (one season). 2015 USL Cup Champion 2006 USL-1 Champion From 1984-87, Lilley played collegiately at George Mason University, where he was a four-year USL Hall of Fame starter and team captain. He was inducted into the George Mason Men’s Soccer Hall of Fame in 5x Coach of the Year 2011.

Bob Lilley leads the Hounds with a stacked resume that not only includes a league title in 2015, but also an incredible 18-year coaching career that has exactly zero missed playoff appearances.

6 #UNLEASH Assistant Coaches

Dan Visser - assistant coach Dan Visser enters his third-full season as an assistant coach with Riverhounds SC after originally joining the club in July 2016.

Prior to arriving in Pittsburgh, Visser served as an assistant coach at the United States Naval Acad- emy during its 2015 campaign. The Midshipmen finished this season with an 8-9-1 overall ecord.r

From 2013-14, Visser was head coach at Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Massachusetts. The Lions held a 3-14-0 record during his first year and improved to 5-12-1 during his second season at the helm.

Visser began his coaching career at the NCAA Division III level, serving as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Eastern University in St. Davids, . During his two years at Eastern, the Eagles compiled a 21-11-2 record and had 11 student-athletes earn All-Conference honors.

The West Chester, Pennsylvania native played collegiately as a midfielder at Messiah College for four seasons before graduating in 2008. During this period, the team won three national cham- pionships and accumulated an 89-6-2 record. The two-time team captain also received Regional All-America honors in 2007.

In addition to his coaching and playing experience, Visser holds an ‘A’ license from the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) and a National Diploma from United Soccer Coaches.

Hunter Gilstrap - goalkeeping coach After coaching the club to its most single-season goalkeeper shutouts (17) in team history, Hunter Gilstrap returns for his third straight season as goalkeeping coach with Riverhounds SC.

Logging an 11-season professional playing career, Gilstrap spent six years (2010-14, 16) with Pittsburgh. In 2010, he was named USL-2 All-League First Team and Goalkeeper of the Year. The keeper ranks tied for ninth with 102 appearances and second with 25 shutouts all-time in team history.

In 2015, Gilstrap played for the Carolina RailHawks of the North American Soccer League (NASL). He made nine appearances with the club and also played two games for the USL-side Charlotte Independence while on loan from the RailHawks.

From 2007-09, the Lexington, South Carolina native played for the . In 2009, Gilstrap captained the team during its first campaign at the USL First Division level, making 22 appearances for the club. From 2007-08, Gilstrap and the Stars competed at the USL level. In 2008, he helped Cleveland City to its first league championship.

His professional career began in 2006, when FC selected him with the No. 13 overall pick in the USL-1 Draft. At the collegiate level, Gilstrap competed at Clemson University from 2001-04 and attended the College of Charleston for his senior season in 2005.

The goalkeeper began his professional career with the Rochester Rhinos in 2017, but he did not make an appearance for the USL side.

Prior to his time with the Rhinos, Morton played collegiately at James Madison University from 2012-16, as he earned a medical red- shirt during his sophomore campaign. During his redshirt senior campaign in 2016, the keeper was the only James Madison athlete to play every minute of the season. Morton posted a 1.22 GAA, .741 save percentage and four shutouts en route to being named Third Team All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). As a redshirt junior in 2015, Morton was named Third Team All-CAA, as he logged a 1.28 GAA, .736 save percentage and four shutouts. He did not miss a minute as a redshirt sophomore in 2014, starting all 22 games for James Madison and tallying nine shutouts – tied for the most in the CAA. His efforts, including three straight clean sheets in the CAA Tournament, helped the Dukes capture their first conference tournament championship since 2001. After making his professional debut with the club on July 4, 2017, against the Charlotte Independence, the center back started all 15 of his games played as a rookie. He racked up 100 clearances, the second-highest total for the team on the season. His 1,322 minutes ranked second among all first-year Pittsburgh players.

From 2013-16, Adewole played collegiately at George Washington University. As a senior in 2016, the defender started 17 games and recorded one goal and two assists. Defensively, Adewole helped anchor a dominant backline, which set a program-record nine shut- outs en route to leading the Atlantic 10 Conference with a 0.62 goals-against average. As a member of the Rochester Rhinos in 2017, Dover started 19 of his 23 regular season appearances and both of the club’s postsea- son matches. Including postseason games, the defender tallied the fifth-most interceptions (46) and tackles (50) for the USL side on the season.

Prior to signing his first professional contract with the Rhinos, Dover competed for Durham United FA of the semi-professional in 2016. The Ajax, Ontario, Canada native finished fourth on the team in minutes while logging one goal and one assist in 16 appearances.

Collegiately, Dover played at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay from 2012-15. James began his professional career with the Rochester Rhinos, which he played two seasons for from 2016-17. During his two campaigns with the Rhinos, James posted one goal and three assists in 60 regular season games played. In 2017, he led the club with 34 appearances and 2,983 minutes, including two postseason starts. The 2016 campaign was the highest scoring of his professional career, as he recorded one goal and two assists for four points.

Prior to joining Rochester, the Bowling Green State University product was selected 52nd overall by in the third round of the 2016 MLS SuperDraft. He did not play a match with the MLS side.

Dos Santos first began play at the USL Championship level with the Rochester Rhinos, where he played for two seasons (2015-16). During the 2016 campaign, he finished with eight goals across 26 league appearances in addition to scoring three goals in two postseason games. From 2016-17, the forward played two seasons with Portland Timbers 2. He made seven appearances in 2017 after posting seven goals and three assists in 28 games in 2016. Originally drafted by the Portland Timbers in the second round with the No. 40 overall selection of the 2016 MLS SuperDraft, Brett made one appearance for the MLS squad during the 2016 campaign before joining its affiliated team, Timbers 2. His MLS debut occurred in a 4-2 win against Vancouver Whitecaps FC on May 22.

Collegiately, Brett starred at from 2012-15. He posted at least 13 goals and 31 points from his sophomore season (2013) through his senior campaign (2015), scoring a single-season career high of 15 goals as a junior (which led Division I) and 36 points as a sophomore (which led the nation in regular season scoring). In his career at Robert Morris, Brett finished with 42 goals, 16 assists and 100 points in 67 games played. He was thrice named First Team All-Conference and Player of the Year, earning the honors in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

The Kingston, Jamaica native has played for the Jamaica National Team at the U-17 and U-20 levels. Last year, Kerr posted two goals and four assists in 20 games played. In 2017, he was one of two players to appear in all 32 games for the Hounds and led the team with 2,813 minutes and five assists. Named All-League Second eamT in 2015, Kerr recorded his highest-scoring season for the Hounds, totaling a career-high 10 goals, nine assists, 29 points and 50 shots with the club. On April 13, 2013, Kerr made his Hounds debut in a 2-1 home loss to the Harrisburg City Islanders (Penn FC). One week later, Kerr tallied his first goal with the Hounds in a 2-1 loss at the .

In 2012, Kerr signed with AGOVV Apeldoorn, a second-tier Dutch team. Shortly after his arrival, AGOVV declared bankrupt. As a result, Kerr, who was born in Münster, Germany due to his father’s military duties, joined German club S.C. Wiedenbruck of the Regionalliga West, a fourth-tier league.

Kerr signed his first professional contract with Arminia Bielefeld and made his debut for the club in Germany’s second tier in March 2010.

Playing for the USL-side Rochester Rhinos from 2015-17, the midfielder started at least 20 games each season and led the club with 19 assists (including playoffs) during this span. As team captain in 2017, he logged three goals and five assists, plus another assist in the playoffs. In 2016, Forbes recorded three goals and four assists en route to being named All-League Second Team. A member of the 2015 USL Cup-winning squad, he totaled three goals and led Rochester with five assists on the season. In the 2015 USL Championship game, he assisted the game-winning goal, giving the Rhinos a 2-1 win over LA Galaxy II.

In addition to USL Championship play, Forbes has spent seven seasons with the Syracuse Silver Knights (now branded as Utica City FC) of the Major Arena Soccer League from 2011-18. He is the club’s all-time leading scorer and was named the Silver Knights’ MVP for the 2016-17 season, as he led the team with 42 points.

Forbes began his professional career in 2006 with Naggo Head FC, then a part of the Jamaican National . In 2017, the forward finished second in goals for Saint Louis FC, finding the back of the net eight times.

Volesky began his USL Championship career with the Rochester Rhinos in 2015-16. In Rochester, he played under current Riverhounds SC head coach Bob Lilley. During the 2016 season, Volesky led the team with 10 goals and 23 points. The year prior, he paced Roch- ester’s 2015 USL Cup championship team with 19 points.

The Portland Timbers drafted Volesky with the 32nd overall pick in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft. Volesky did not sign with the Timbers.

The Henderson, Nevada native finished his collegiate career at Southern University Edwardsville. In 58 appearances from 2012- 14, Volesky scored 23 goals and 50 points. In 2014, Volesky received Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Player of the Year honors and was an All-MVC first team selection for the third consecutive season. He led the team in scoring in each of his three seasons with the Cougars. Before his stint at SIU Edwardsville, Volesky spent one collegiate season at the University of .

Competing at Creighton University from 2014-17, he racked up 85 games played (57 starts), six goals and 14 assists over the course of his collegiate career, in addition to being named All-BIG EAST Second Team as a senior. During his junior campaign, Franke recorded 1,953 minutes while starting all 23 of his appearances and posting eight points (one goal and six assists). As a sophomore, he netted two goals, including scoring his first tally with the Bluejays in game-winning fashion during the final minutes of a match against St. John’s University.

FC Dallas drafted Franke with the No. 80 overall pick in the fourth round of the 2018 MLS SuperDraft. He did not make an appearance with the club.

Prior to arriving at Creighton, the Orlando, Florida native played for the U-23 team of Orlando City during its run into the third round of the 2014 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Playing for the Sunbirds from 2014-18, Velarde notched his highest-scoring season during his redshirt senior campaign, logging 14 goals and 20 assists en route to a Division II Conference Commissioners Association First-Team All America selection. He also totaled double-digit goals and assists during his redshirt junior season, posting 10 tallies and 13 helpers. Prior to redshirting the 2016 season, he recorded one goal and seven assists as a sophomore and four assists as a freshman.

In his collegiate career, the Reedley, California native amassed 71 games played, 25 goals and 44 assists while at Fresno Pacific.

In 2018, Vancaeyezeele played all over the field for the Hounds, including attacking and holding roles in the midfield, in addition to the center and outside positions of the squad’s backline. He registered two goals and one assist while starting 32 of his 33 appearanc- es.

From 2016-17, Vancaeyezeele anchored the backline for the University of Charleston (WV). Named United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II National Player of the Year in 2017, the defender helped the Golden Eagles to their first national championship in school history. He started all 24 of his games played and recorded four goals plus two assists en route to United Soccer Coaches First Team All-America, First Team All-Mountain East Conference and Mountain East Conference Defender of the Year honors. In 2016, the defender started 15 of his 17 appearances and netted one goal.

While competing at Charleston, Vancaeyezeele also played for Brilla FC of the Premier Development League (now known as USL League Two) in 2017. He logged two goals and three assists in 14 appearances.

Fresh off an All-League First Team honor, Greenspan led the Hounds with 162 clearances during their 2018 campaign. On the offen- sive end of the pitch, he potted three goals and six points in his 23 games played. On loan from Minnesota United FC of MLS in 2017, Greenspan started all 10 of his appearances with the Hounds. Logging 900 minutes, the center back tallied an assist to go along with 25 tackles and 85 clearances. In addition to his time with Pittsburgh, Greenspan played in four matches, starting three, for Minnesota United FC, which acquired the defender via trade with the Rapids of MLS prior to the 2017 campaign.

Greenspan began his professional soccer career with the Rapids after they selected him with the No. 26 overall pick in the second round of the 2015 MLS SuperDraft. He made four appearances for the MLS squad from 2015-16, and was loaned to USL Champion- ship teams Colorado Springs Switchbacks (four games) and Charlotte Independence (six games) in 2016.

The Westfield, New Jersey native played collegiately at the United States Naval Academy from 2011-14. He was named National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-America third team as a junior and NSCAA All-America first team as a senior. In addition, Greenspan earned Defensive Player of the Year honors during his junior and senior campaigns, and aided the team to its first NCAA Tournament win in 42 years in 2013.

After graduation, Greenspan served one year of active duty with the Navy in Colorado and while simultaneously pursuing a professional soccer career. In June 2016, he was waived from obligations requiring him to serve two years active service before pursuing a professional sports career and accepted appointment into the Navy Reserve. T he Dabo File Height: 5-9 Weight: 155 Birthdate: January 2, 1996 Hometown: Senegal M Previous Club: Penn FC 21 mouhamed DABO Mouhamed Dabo returns to the Hounds for the 2019 campaign.

In 2018, Dabo led the club with 80 tackles during his first season in Black and Gold. Anchoring the holding midfield, he started 19 of his 24 games played. Against the Tampa Bay Rowdies on Aug. 22, 2018, at Highmark Stadium, he scored his first career professional goal – his lone tally on the season.

Then known as the Harrisburg City Islanders, Dabo played two seasons for Penn FC from 2016-17. In 2017, he led the team with 78 interceptions and started each one of his 21 appearances. During the 2016 campaign, the midfielder helped the squad win its first and only Keystone Derby Cup. He also logged 21 games played during his rookie season. Dabo made his professional debut on April 2, 2016, recording 21 minutes against the Charlotte Independence.

Before commencing his professional career in the USL Championship, Dabo had a three-year stint in the Italian Inter Milan youth system from 2013-15.

A native of Senegal, Dabo amassed five caps and one goal for the Senegal U-17 National eamT in 2013.

Crew SC drafted the goalkeeper with the No. 21 overall pick of the 2018 MLS SuperDraft. He subsequently signed with the club on March 1, 2018. He did not make an appearance with Crew SC, which loaned his contract to Indy Eleven on March 7, 2018. He did not make an appearance with the USL Championship side in 2018.

Lundgaard had a standout collegiate career at Tech from 2014-17. As a senior in 2017, the Wilmington, Delaware native earned First Team All-Atlantic Coast and United Soccer Coaches All-East Region Third Team honors. During his junior campaign, he posted a career-best .806 save percentage.

At the Atlantic Coast Conference school, he started all 70 of his career games played en route to a 1.28 goals-against average and .774 save percentage. He concluded his career with 312 saves, which ranked third most all-time for the Hokies. Furthermore, his 23 career shutouts ranked second most in program history.

From 2017-18, Kutler played two seasons for New York Red Bulls II. In 2018, the midfielder split time between Red Bulls II and New York Red Bulls of MLS, logging 26 games played, two goals and one assist for the USL Championship club and posting four appear- ances and two assists for the MLS side.

Kutler made his professional debut against the Hounds on March 25, 2017, in a 3-3 draw. Including playoffs, he went on to appear in 18 games for Red Bulls II that season en route to one goal and one assist.

New York drafted Kutler with the No. 39 overall pick of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft.

Prior to playing professionally, the Ithaca, New York native played collegiately at Colgate University. He posted 73 games played (70 starts), 33 goals and 15 assists while with the Raiders. When he ended his Colgate career, his 81 points ranked second in program history.

#UNLEASH 21 2018 Review

A NEW ERA On Feb. 16, 2018, Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC unleashed a new era. On the heels of announcing Bob Lilley as the 10th head coach in club history, the team revealed new kits, a new name and a new logo heading into the 2018 campaign.

Just as the look was different, so was the team’s play compared to that of previous seasons. The squad set numerous records, including notching 17 shutouts during the regular season. Logging a 15-5-14 record, the Hounds recorded the second-most regular season wins in team history. The club shot into the playoffs for the first time since the 2015 campaign, earning the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference for the postseason tournament.

During his first season The new era continued on Oct. 20, 2018, as Pittsburgh with the club, midfielder hosted its first-ever playoff match at Highmark Stadium. In Kenardo Forbes led the front of a record crowd totaling 5,189, the team’s team with eight assists. championship aspirations came to an end, as Bethlehem Steel FC earned the victory in a shootout lasting eight rounds.

The 2018 season was Pittsburgh’s sixth at Highmark Stadium and eighth in the USL Championship.
