It's one of four songs performed by the band for the film, the other three of them What Love You're On, Come Together and Sweet Emotion. Written by Diane Warren, the song debuted at number one on the Us Billboard Hot 100, giving the band their first and only number one single in their home country. The song remained in its first week, from September 5 to September 26, 1998. It also peaked at number one in a matter of weeks in several other countries including Australia, Ireland and Norway. More than a million copies have been sold in the UK and reached number four on the UK Singles Chart. The song was covered by American country music singer Mark Chesnatt for his album of the same name. In early 1999, it reached the top 20 billboard Hot 100 and topped the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. Inspiration In 1997, Diana Warren watched Barbara Walters interview James Brolin and Barbra Streisand. Brolin said he missed Streisand while they were sleeping, and Warren recorded the words I Don't Want to Miss a Thing Before There Was Even a Song. When I first heard it, recalled drummer Joey Kramer, it was just a demo with piano and singing. It was hard to imagine what touch Aerosmith could put on it and make it his own... As soon as we started playing him as a band, he instantly became an Aerosmith song. The song became Aerosmith's biggest hit, debuting at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100, where it stayed for four weeks in September, reaching first worldwide, including Australia, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Austria, Norway, Italy, the Netherlands and Switzerland. The song helped introduce Aerosmith to a new generation and remains a slow dance staple. It was one of many songs written by Warren at that time. The original version was a collaboration between Chicago musician Phil Comche of the Paris Treaty and Super Happy Fun Club, as well as the writer's nephew Lou Bega. Bega submitted two, and they wrote the original track, but eventually Kosh was not listed in the credits. The song was nominated for both The Academy Award for Best Original Song and the Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Original Song, but lost both When You Believe from Prince of Egypt and I Want to Be Mike Ovitz! from Alan Smithy's film Burn Hollywood Burn, respectively. In 2015, boxer Tyson Fury sang the song I Don't Want to Miss Anything after defeating reigning world heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in Dusseldorf, Germany. Fury then sang the song again after defeating Tom Schwartz in 2019 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas. The music video for the song was filmed at the Minneapolis Armory and was shot by Francis Lawrence. In it, the band plays a song intertwined with scenes from the film Armageddon. It shows the appearance of Steven Tyler's daughter Liv, who plays Grace Stamper in the film. Steven Tyler injured his knee the day before shooting, so they used a lot of close-up shots because of his limited movement. The video begins with images of the moon in orbit and several asteroids passing by safely and then a view of the Earth before zooming in to show Steven Tyler singing. Shots exchanged between the group and the Flight Control watching the group singing through their monitors. As the video progresses it shows the band playing in front of what appears to be the fictional Space Shuttle Liberty. Along with Aerosmith, the orchestra plays in sync with the melody with its full hand. Smoke then surrounds the orchestra and members of Aerosmith as freedom takes off from the launch pad. Finally, the screen comes out as Grace's tearful touches one of the monitors to reach out to her father (real-life father Steven Tyler in the video; on-screen father Harry Stamper, played by Bruce Willis, in the film). The video was very successful and greatly contributed to the song's success, gaining a heavy airwaves on MTV and becoming the second most popular video of 1998, only after Brandi and Monica The Boy is Mine. He also received the MTV Video Music Award for Best Video from a Movie, and Best Video at the Boston Music Awards. Его исполнение the first single and title track from his 1999 album of the same name. Chesnutt's cover spent two weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot Country Singles and Tracks (now Hot Country Songs) charts in early 1999, and is the last of its eight numbers on the chart. It is also the first of two singles in his career to reach the Billboard Hot 100, where he peaked at number 17 in early 1999. Chesnatt decided to cover the song at the suggestion of his producer Mark Wright, who heard a version of Aerosmith on his car radio. According to Wright, he and Chesnatt only listened to Aerosmith's performance twice before the recording to allow Chesnat to come up with a performance that was his. Because they thought his version had potential as a single, his label Decca Records withdrew his single Wherever You Are in late 1998 and began promoting I Don't Want to Miss a Thing instead. Chesnatt also said he decided to make the song because he thought it would help revive his then album sales and performance in the charts. Although Chesnatte was favored by the cover at the time, Chesnatt noted in 2016 that he didn't want to cut it and that, despite the fact that his version topped the country music charts and was successful on the radio, sales were bad for both the single and the album.
