This series consists of the staff's work files on the planned industrial development at Tellico for the period 1965 to 1984. In 1966 TVA began construction of the Tellico Dam project on the Little Tennessee River. This project was a multipurpose water control project. The dam site is located near the mouth of the Little Tennessee River near Lenoir City. Tennessee. The reservoir was joined to nearby Fort Loudoun Reservoir by a canal. thus permitting the two projects to effectively operate as one. The connecting canal and new reservoir provided a navigable channel approximately 30 miles in length up the Little Tennessee River. By virtue of its location and the characteristics of the reservoir lands. it was believed that the project offered exceptional opportunities for economic development of the region. and the Industrial Development Staff did extensive work toward this development. Subjects included in the files are Timberlake Industrial Development, Tellico Project Economic Impact, Tellico Water Supply, Tellico Justification, Tellico Reevaluation, Tellico Budget, etc. The total accumulation is 4 cubic feet. DISPOSITION Permanent. Transfer to the National Archives upon approval of this schedule. 0532N .
