Chesham Stakes (Listed) S1-1 (2:30 P.M 9:30 P.M. HK TIME (23.6.2012) Chesham Stakes (Listed) S1-1 (2:30 P.M. LOCAL TIME) (23.6.2012) Ascot Racecourse - Turf Track – 1400 Metres (Straight) For Two-Years-Old only. Weights: colts and geldings 129lb; fillies 124lb. Penalties: a winner of a Listed race 3lb; of a pattern race 5lb. Total Prize Money (GBP) £55,000 1st £31,190, 2nd £11,825, 3rd £5,918, 4th £2,948, 5th £1,479, 6th £742. (16 Starters) Expert Column by Wally Pyrah Irish trainer Jim Bolger has already tasted success at Royal Ascot this week with DAWN APPROACH – winner of the Coventry Stakes – and will be looking to double up with his exciting youngster MOVE TO STRIKE. This son of LAWMAN, spread-eagled his rivals when winning by nine lengths at the Curragh over 1200 meters on soft ground. He is sure to be suited by the extra distance, and it will be a surprise if he is beaten. Trainer Richard Hannon who has won two of the last five running’s of the Chesham Stakes is represented by JALAA who justified favouritism when making all in a small maiden race at Leicester last month. Hannon has made a good start for his new owner Hamdan Al Maktoum – four winners from his first five runners – and has Hamdan’s stable jockey Paul Hanagan in the saddle. Godolphin are represented THA’IR who got off the mark when making all in a small maiden race at Ripon last month. Frankie Dettori takes over this time and is sure to be a popular win and place choice. Trainer Mick Channon has a handful of runners lining up, headed by recent Epsom Woodcote Stakes winner CHILWORTH ICON. This juvenile showed plenty of courage when staying on too well for his rivals, and should appreciate the 1400 meters distance. Keep an eye on Channon’s EFFIE B, who ran well after being slowly away and then running on well behind subsequent Coventry Stakes fourth SIR PRANCEALOT in the 1000 meters National Stakes at Sandown. It’s significant that William Buick has been booked to ride. SELECTIONS: MOVE TO STRIKE, JALAA, EFFIE B & THA’IR Expert Column by Wendyll Woods Mick Channon has a good record at Royal Ascot, and his CHILWORTH ICON is of interest here. He won an informative contest, The Listed Woodcote stakes on Derby day, beating dual winner HEAVY METAL, who put in a fair performance in the Coventry Stakes earlier this week. The conditions of the race mean he needs to give weight to his other rivals, but he has place claims. Jim Bolger trained the unbeaten DAWN APPROACH to win the Coventry Stakes on Tuesday and has another live contender in this juvenile race. MOVE TO STRIKE was an impressive nine length winner on his second start, and looks well worth the step up to Listed company. Godolphin’s team could be represented by THA’IR and LOVELY PASS, another first time winner who was strongly fancied on debut. She ran on strongly to win by over two lengths and will be partnered by Silvestre de Sousa. Richard Hannon has made an excellent start since Sheikh Hamdan sent his horses to him and he saddles JALAA in this, who looked a very scopey individual when running on strongly to win on his debut at Leicester. His pedigree suggests he’ll be better once tackling a mile, but he looks a horse with a real future and following the good effort of SIR PRANCEALOT in the Coventry Stakes on Tuesday, Hannon and Hughes can team up with a winner here. • 6 MILLION PRIZE MONEY at ROYAL ASCOT 2021 Tuesday 9Th March 2021
£6 MILLION PRIZE MONEY AT ROYAL ASCOT 2021 Tuesday 9th March 2021 Prize money for Royal Ascot 2021 is today announced at £6 million over the week – a 66% increase on the £3.61m offered in 2020. The Royal Meeting will take place from 15th to 19th June and the full order of running with race values for the extended programme announced in January is attached. The King George VI & Queen Elizabeth QIPCO Stakes, which takes place in July, will be run for £875,000 (2020: £400,000). Guy Henderson, Chief Executive Officer at Ascot Racecourse, said: “In 2020 we had hoped to offer record prize money of more than £8 million at the Royal Meeting. In the event the pandemic made that impossible and we have now spent nearly a year racing behind closed doors with trading income down 80%. This year’s prize money of £6 million represents 75% of what we had originally planned for 2020. “With restricted attendances in 2021 and pandemic insurance cover no longer available, the business will need to absorb a significant loss this year in order to deliver our wish to support the industry with the most prize money that we can prudently afford. Whilst Covid-19 has knocked back our long term financial trajectory by several years, our aim is to make the largest steps we can towards getting prize money levels back on track as soon as possible. “Without owners we would have no racing. We are very grateful for their commitment and thank them for their support. We look forward to being able to increase prize money further as soon as it is possible for us to do so.

  • Over £8 Million Prize Money on Offer at Royal Ascot 2020
OVER £8 MILLION PRIZE MONEY ON OFFER AT ROYAL ASCOT 2020 3rd December 2019 Ascot Racecourse today announces that Royal Ascot 2020 will be run for a record £8,095,000, an increase of £765,000 on 2019 values. For the first time, the Royal Meeting will play host to two £1 million races; The Prince of Wales’s Stakes (from £750,000) and the Diamond Jubilee Stakes (from £600,000). No race at Royal Ascot will be run for less than £95,000 in 2020 (£90,000 in 2019) and in total 16 of the 30 races have been the subject of increases. Total prize money at Ascot next year, excluding the industry owned QIPCO British Champions Day, will be £14.4m, an increase of £819,000 (Executive contribution 2020: £8.1m, 2019: £7.4m). This includes bringing the Longines Sagaro Stakes up from £60,000 to £80,000 to match the Commonwealth Cup Trial on Royal Ascot Trials Day. Ascot’s Prize Money of £14.4m in 2020 is an increase of 65% on the 2010 Prize Money of £8.7m. Of the prize money in 2010, £4.1m (47% of the total) was Executive Contribution. In 2020, with Executive Contribution of £8.1m (56% of the total), the growth in percentage terms is 96% from a decade ago. Guy Henderson, CEO, Ascot Racecourse, said: “Royal Ascot plays an important role for the industry in maintaining international investment in British racing. Go but, as a biased Englishman, I have no hesitation in calling Royal Ascot with it! The stable is patronised by some of the biggest gamblers in the the best Flat race meeting in the world. world and they do not get things wrong very often. Either go with them or stay out but don’t go against them. It just wins at every level, from being perhaps our top society occasion to an absolutely frenzied week-long betting event.
