Godolphin’s Ghaiyyath (Dubawi) went straight to his customary front-running position but could never quite slip the field, with Magical (Galileo) dogging his every stride and her stablemate Japan (Galileo) close in behind, with Sottsass (Siyouni) also in close order. AS CHAMPERS TAKES MATRON Champers Elysees swept from last to first to record a stunning victory in the Gr.1 Matron Stakes, setting the seal on a magnificent rags to riches season. The three-year-old daughter of Elzaam also gave her trainer Johnny Murtagh his first Gr.1 victory as a trainer and was another top-level success for her jockey Colin Keane. There were plenty of big reputations on the line in yesterday’s 1m contest, with the Gr.1 Irish 1,000 Guineas heroine Peaceful (Galileo) and the Gr.1 Prix de Diane and Gr.1 Nassau Stakes heroine Fancy Blue (Deep Impact) in the line-up. Love Locket (No Nay Never) set a decent pace from the outset, chased by Know It All (Lord Kanaloa), with Peaceful racing just behind. Champers Elysees was settled towards the rear of the 11 runners and did not look to be a factor as the field turned for home, and Peaceful and Know It All settled down to fight out the finish, but Keane soon had his mount motoring and she swept past the field Make your on the outside to take the lead inside the final furlong and stride clear to record victory by a length and a quarter. TIMEFORM VIEW: CHAMPERS ELYSEES rates the clear form pick and should strip a lot sharper for her reappearance fourth here so gets the nod at the chief expense of Epona Plays who arrives at the top of her game and shouldn't be underestimated on the back of her Naas victory. Valeria Messalina lacks a recent run but can make her presence felt too.
