Godolphin’s Ghaiyyath (Dubawi) went straight to his customary front-running position but could never quite slip the field, with Magical (Galileo) dogging his every stride and her stablemate Japan (Galileo) close in behind, with Sottsass (Siyouni) also in close order. AS CHAMPERS TAKES MATRON Champers Elysees swept from last to first to record a stunning victory in the Gr.1 Matron Stakes, setting the seal on a magnificent rags to riches season. The three-year-old daughter of Elzaam also gave her trainer Johnny Murtagh his first Gr.1 victory as a trainer and was another top-level success for her jockey Colin Keane. There were plenty of big reputations on the line in yesterday’s 1m contest, with the Gr.1 Irish 1,000 Guineas heroine Peaceful (Galileo) and the Gr.1 Prix de Diane and Gr.1 Nassau Stakes heroine Fancy Blue (Deep Impact) in the line-up.
