Dan River Steam Station (pages 43 - 48) – The Court found Defendants guilty and Defendants plead guilty to four counts (sets of violations) at Dan River. March a. Count One is that the company violated the Clean Water Act for the unpermitted discharge through the 48-inch stormwater so and the Defendant aided and abetted another 4 in doing so. Furthermore, the Court found that the Defendant acted negligently in doing 4:55 so. b. Count Two is that Defendant violated the CWA by not maintaining the 48-inch storm PM water pipe which constituted a violation of its NPDES permit which requires that the - permittee to properly maintain its equipment. Furthermore, the Court found that the SCPSC Defendant acted negligently in doing so and that the Defendant aided and abetted another in doing so. c. Count Three is that Defendant violated the CWA for the unpermitted discharge through - the 36-inch stormwater pipe at Dan River of coal ash and coal ash wastewater from a Docket point source into a water of the US. Furthermore, the Court found that the Defendant acted negligently in doing so and that the Defendant aided and abetted another in doing # so. 2018-318-E d. Count Four is that Defendant violated the CWA by not maintaining the 36-inch storm water pipe which constituted a violation of its NPDES permit which requires that the permittee to properly maintain its equipment. -

The Raven JOURNAL OF THE VIRGINIA SOCIETY OF ORNITHOLOGY Volume 83 Number 1 2012 The Virginia Society of Ornithology, Inc. exists to encourage the systematic study of birds in Virginia, to stimulate interest in birds, and to assist the conservation of wildlife and other natural resources. All persons interested in those objectives are welcome as members. Present membership includes every level of interest, from professional scientific ornithologists to enthusiastic amateurs. Activities undertaken by the Society include the following: 1. An annual meeting (usually in the spring), held in a different part of the state each year, featuring talks on ornithological subjects and field trips to nearby areas. 2. Other forays or field trips lasting a day or more and scheduled throughout the year so as to include all seasons and to cover the major physiographic regions of the state. 3. A journal, The Raven, published twice yearly, containing articles relevant to Virginia ornithology as well as news of the activities of the Society and its chapters. 4. A newsletter, the VSO Newsletter, published quarterly, containing current news items of interest to members and information about upcoming events and pertinent conservation issues. 5. Study projects (nesting studies, winter bird population surveys, etc.) aimed at making genuine contributions to ornithological knowledge. In addition, some local chapters of the Society conduct their own programs of meetings, field trips and other projects. Those wishing to participate in any of the above activities, or to cooperate in advancing the objectives of the Society, are cordially invited to join and should contact Thelma Dalmas, the Membership Secretary. -

Springate A shared history is one of the most powerful ways that people feel connected to one another. Even as an immigrant new to U.S. soil, a person is part of a shared heritage of people coming from elsewhere and making America great. While the United States has a deep and rich lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) history—and not just in the big cities of New York and San Francisco—these histories have largely been ignored or marginalized. In 1998 the National Trust’s Forum The Washington, D.C., home of Franklin E. Kameny, a Journal published Gail Dubrow’s article, significant figure in the American gay rights movement, “Blazing Trails with Pink Triangles and Rainbow was listed in the National Register in 2011. | Photo by Farragutful, via Wikimedia Commons. Flags: New Directions in the Preservation and Interpretation of Gay and Lesbian Heritage.” In it, Dubrow described a nascent grassroots movement poised for national recognition. Although there were no LGBTQ National Historic Landmarks or listings in the National Register of Historic Places at that time, in local communities around the country, preservationists were recording gay and lesbian oral histories, curating gay and lesbian archives, and mounting exhibits about gay and lesbian history and neighborhoods. -

March 2017 Update Virginia's Phase III Watershed Implementation Plan (WIP) Update: Local Engagement Program for the Chesapeake Bay Clean Up In light of the strong emphasis on local engagement for the Phase III WIP, Virginia has developed and begun implementing a local engagement program that will continue throughout the Phase III WIP development process and beyond. The components of the local engagement program include: . Ongoing meetings of the Chesapeake Bay Stakeholder Advisory Group (SAG). This group is comprised of representatives of the agricultural, conservation, development and industrial communities as well as representatives of local governments and soil & water quality conservation districts. The state will be providing updates to this group and eliciting their comments on all aspects of Phase III WIP planning, including the local engagement program. Outreach to local government, soil & water conservation district and stakeholder association meetings to provide continuous updates throughout the Phase III WIP process. Initial regional outreach meetings to local governments and soil & water conservation districts throughout the Chesapeake Bay Watershed portion of the state (currently on-going). Facilitated work sessions for local governments, soil & water conservation districts and stakeholders. These work sessions will involve training on the various tools available for the development and prioritization of pollutant reducing strategies and how to report Best Management Practices (BMPs). TALBOTT DAM LOCATION.--Lat 36°40'36", long 80°23'51", Patrick County, Va, Hydrologic Unit 03010103, 4.5 mi northeast of Kibler. DRAINAGE AREA.--20.2 mi2. TOWNES DAM LOCATION.--Lat 36°41'11", long 80°25'49", Patrick County, Va, Hydrologic Unit 03010103, 4 mi north of Kibler. DRAINAGE AREA.--32.9 mi2. PERIOD OF RECORD.--February 1939 to December 1945 and January 1948 to September 1960 (combined monthend contents only pub- lished in WSP 1723), October 1960 to current year. REMARKS.--Total capacity of Talbott Reservoir is 350,000,000 ft3 and Townes Reservoir is 60,000,000 ft3. Filling was started in Talbott Reservoir Feb. 13, 1939, and in Townes Reservoir several months earlier. Records furnished by city of Danville, Virginia. DRAINAGE AREA.--189 mi2. PERIOD OF RECORD.--October 1964 to current year. Prior to October 1970, published as "Roxboro Steam-Electric Generating Plant Lake." GAGE.--Water-stage recorder and tape gage. Prior to Feb. 11, 1965, staff gage at upstream end of outlet control structure. Datum of gage is 399.79 ft above sea level (levels by Carolina Power and Light Co.). -

ABSTRACT This document presents the results of an archival and documentary study on the Traditional Navigability of Waterways in Northern Virginia. The study area is depicted in Attachment 1 of this report and is roughly bounded by the Potomac River on the north and east, the Opequon Creek watershed on the west and the Rappahannock River watershed on the south. The study was conducted by Thunderbird Archeology, a division of Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc. of Gainesville, Virginia. The purposes of this work are threefold. The primary purpose is to assist consultants and regulators in completing Section III of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Approved Jurisdictional Form. In order to accomplish this goal, a working definition of what constitutes Traditional Navigable Waterways was prepared. This definition will aid in the determination of Waters of the United States jurisdiction for the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers within the study area. Secondly, using specific archeological and historical information, the paper demonstrates that certain rivers and streams can be identifiable as Traditional Navigable Waterways. It is also possible to consider the use of streams for recreation, e.g.
