home AUTUMN 2015 www.glenoaks.org.uk A welcome housing boost from Glen Oaks New housing is coming to Arden with news that the Association is to begin work on 48 much-needed homes. They will be built on the site of the former St Louise Primary School and work will begin in October. The £6.4 million project is great news for the community and half the cost has been generously funded by the Scottish Government via City Council. Glen Oaks will fund the other half. Chief Executive Alasdair McKee said: “Everyone will welcome this exciting new development of homes – it is just what the community needs. It is the fifth such development in the last 10 years which has delivered 150 new homes for Arden. We are very grateful to and the Scottish Government who share our vision of creating new homes.” Arden’s latest housing comes at a time when FOUR major refurbishment projects have taken place in the area transforming 430 tenements and in turn making a big difference to people’s lives. And it brings to £25million the total Glen Oaks has spent on housing in Arden.

In a further important development, Glen Oaks is pleased to announce that we have struck an agreement with the contractor Crudens to provide some employment opportunities during the construction of the homes beginning Looking to the future…..Glen Oaks Senior Project Officer Louise with a temporary post for a cleaner. The annual Darnley Community Gala Day was held across Darnley Primary School and St Angela’s Primary School and was a great success, with many of the local residents and school children turning up to take part in the fun! The Fun Run was really popular with almost 100 children and young people taking part and running at a great speed to the finish line! Active Andy We were lucky to have Active Andy come along and join in with our Fun Run. Andy with our Chief Executive Alasdair McKee helped the kids warm up before their big race. Active Andy is part of the Active Schools programme. Active Schools is a term given to all schools in Scotland that provide pupils with sufficient opportunities to get active to the extent that it makes a positive contribution to their health. The fundamental aim of Active Schools is to give school-aged children the tools, motivation and opportunities to be more active throughout their school years and into adulthood. Active Andy came along to promote “be active for 60 minutes a day”. Physical Activity is vital for good health and its benefits range from disease prevention to well being, psychological benefits, fitness and overall quality of life. In childhood, exercise can heavily contribute to a child’s happiness and health - generally every parent’s objective for their child. To find out more visit www.glasgow.gov.uk
