Buffalo Communications David Wood, 703.635.0577 Dwood@Buffalocommunications.Com FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 15, 2014 MEDIA CONTACT: Buffalo Communications David Wood, 703.635.0577 [email protected] The Sea Pines Resort Completes Heron Point by Pete Dye Enhancements (HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.) – The Sea Pines Resort – site of the PGA TOUR RBC Heritage held at Harbour Town Golf Links – has completed enhancements to Heron Point by Pete Dye and the course will reopen Sept. 22. Ranked No. 11 in GOLF Magazine’s 2014 “Best Courses Near You” in golf-rich South Carolina, Heron Point underwent a series of subtle modifications over the summer under the close supervision of Dye. With the objective of making the course more player friendly, Dye’s team softened the green surrounds and contours, enlarged several greens, and added ornamental landscape beds throughout the layout. The putting surfaces were transitioned to Tif-Eagle Bermuda, the same strand used on famed Harbour Town. “Our members and guests are going to love the changes made to Heron Point,” says Cary Corbitt, Vice President of Sports and Operations. “The course is the ideal complement to Harbour Town and gives us two of the premier 18s in the region.” Heron Point is resplendent with knotted hardwoods, lagoons and salt marshes teeming with wildlife. At 7,000 yards from the back tees the course is a wonderful fusion of short and long holes. It can play considerably shorter if needed as there are seven sets of tees on each hole (including junior tees). With the new Plantation Golf Club clubhouse and world-class golf learning center serving Heron Point and the Ocean Course, the facility is literally a “sea of golf” within the resort. The amenities of the 23,000- square-foot clubhouse include an expansive pro shop; Live Oak, Lowcountry-inspired cuisine; 2,000 square feet of event space; and spacious men’s and women’s locker rooms. The legendary destination features an array of golf packages for play on its three superb layouts including Harbour Town Golf Links. About The Sea Pines Resort One of the true crown jewels of American golf, The Sea Pines Resort is home to legendary Harbour Town Golf Links (home of the PGA TOUR’s RBC Heritage) designed by Pete Dye and Jack Nicklaus, Heron Point by Pete Dye, and the Ocean Course. The resort’s best-in-class collection of golf courses, amenities, meeting facilities and accommodations makes Sea Pines one of the most sought-after leisure and group destinations in America. .

HISTORY MAKER GOLF Championship Golf Game • Course Summaries Course Collection ONE Blackjack GC, Las Vegas NV / based on TPC SUMMERLIN TPC Summerlin’s layout, carved from a magnificent swath of rugged desert terrain by renowned golf course architect Bobby Weed, provides a good reference for the Blackjack GC. TPC Summerlin’s lush bentgrass greens, numerous water features and an abundance of pine trees all contrast dramatically with undisturbed desert washes. The course features four closing holes that deliver top flight golf drama. The final charge begins with the par 4, 15th hole – a drivable par 4 that will temp most players. If the tee shot misses the green, an “up and down” birdie is possible, but not easy, due to the severely elevated and undulated green – which is surrounded by five bunkers that regularly attract stray tee shots. The 16th hole is a relatively downhill par-5 that is reachable with two good shots. The green is guarded by water short of the green, and bunkers beyond. Only a mid-iron will be necessary for the second shot, with a birdie almost a certainty. A challenging and un-nerving par-3, the 17th hole plays downhill with the green guarded closely by a lake on the left and by bunkers on the right. Par is good score and birdies are rare, should players need to make up ground. The 18th is a well-designed and strategic finishing hole which moves right to left off the tee. The green is protected on the left by a lake. An aggressive tee shot with the driver can leave the player just a short iron to a very deep green from front to back.

BANKRUPT GOLF COURSES: AN HISTORICAL ANALYSIS AND STRATEGIES FOR REPURPOSING by BLAKE JEFFREY CONANT (Under the Direction of Ron Sawhill) ABSTRACT More than 800 golf courses have closed since 2003 and approximately 1,000 to 2,500 are projected to close in the next decade. Many of these courses are repurposed as high-end mixed-use development, high-density residential, or big-box development. The sustainable benefits the golf course once provided either diminish or leave completely. As our countryʼs 21st Century needs shift towards food, water, and energy security, bankrupt golf courses can offer repurposing opportunities to plan for those needs. The goal of golf course repurposing should be to provide similar or greater sustainable benefits as the golf course once did. Understanding how that land can be sustainably repurposed is vital for local communities, environments, and economies to thrive in the 21st Century. This thesis will offer suggestions, strategies, and solutions for repurposing bankrupt golf courses that have yet to be implemented in the United States. Pebble Beach will host another U.S. Amateur in 2018 and its sixth U.S. Open in 2019. Truly the most coveted course in the world to play! Spyglass Hill® Spyglass Hill is without question one of the top public golf courses in the U.S. Ranked #48 in the U.S, it is located on the Pebble Beach peninsula. The PGA TOUR®, consistently lists Spyglass Hill’s holes 6, 8 and 16 among the toughest on the TOUR, and during the 1999 US Amateur, the stroke average of the field during medal play was in excess of 79. Spanish Bay® The Links at Spanish Bay was built on vast sandy wasteland ideally suited for creating a true coastal Scottish links-style course. Development began in 1985, and was planned to protect the native dunes habitat. Prior cham- pionship tournaments included the 1993 Shivas Irons Games of the Links and NorCal Toyota Challenge. THE MASTERS COLUMBIA, USA 2022 HISTORYWELCOME → →PACKAGESHISTORY → → ITINERARIESPACKAGE → PRESS → INFORMATION → VIEWING → CONTACT → WELCOME TO THE MASTERS EXPERIENCE Every second week of April, Augusta National opens its gates for The Masters, arguably the most exclusive and eagerly anticipated golfing event of the year. Since its founder Bobby Jones held the very first Augusta National Invitational Tournament in 1934, The Masters has had a special place in the hearts of all golf fans and enthusiasts alike. The springtime splendour of Augusta National never disappoints and probably never will. With such iconic moments in golfing history as Nicklaus’s charge in 1986, Faldo’s comeback in 1996 and Tiger’s chip-in in 2005, Augusta has an atmosphere and aura like no other place on earth. We think it’s only fitting that you get to sample that for yourself. WELCOME HISTORYWELCOME → →PACKAGESHISTORY → → ITINERARIESPACKAGE → PRESS → INFORMATION → VIEWING → CONTACT → A GOLF TOURNAMENT LIKE NO OTHER STEEPED IN TRADITION Augusta National Golf Club was founded by Bobby Jones, the legendary amateur champion, and Clifford Roberts, an astute investment banker in New York. The 365-acre property, originally Fruitland Nurseries, was purchased in 1931 for $70,000. Jones helped design the golf course, working alongside the esteemed British architect Dr. Alister Mackenzie. Jones’s popularity within the game helped attract golf’s biggest stars to the Masters, beginning with the inaugural event in 1934. Since then, some of golf’s most memorable moments – both comebacks and collapses – have taken place on the lush course. The Masters Tournament has been held the first full week of April every year since its inception, except for 1943-1945.
