Honoring Linda and David Gentile of Blue Cross and Blue Shield with the Karen and Hank Herrmann Humanitarian Award

Presenting Sponsor Centrinex

Steering Committee Chairs Toni and Phil Sanders, Missy and Bob Kroeker

Honorary Founding Sponsor Janet and Ron Reimer What is a Rent ? Community LINC and our honorary sponsors Karen and Hank Herrmann with Waddell and Reed invite you to provide a Silver Lining at Rent originated in 1920’s in the heart of New York City. Tenants hired a musician or band to play for the neighborhood or building and then passed the hat to raise money for their rent.

Community LINC’s signature fundraising event takes inspiration from these rent parties in gathering our community to spread hope and opportunity to those in the midst of difficulty. We congregate at The Rent Party to celebrate life in the heart of our city and “pay the rent” for the families we serve as they transition from homelessness into self-sufficiency. Thank you for being a Silver Lining and helping us end homelessness and transform lives!

10 11 The Rent Party Steering Committee LeCretia’s Story

Honorary Sponsors Donna Thomason The year was 2000 and LeCretia Morrison was Karen and Hank Herrmann with *Rita Tiehen about to enter her first year of high school. Like Waddell & Reed *Tina Ussery-Franklin most teenagers, she was very excited but *Calvin Ward apprehensive. She had attended school in her Presenting Sponsor neighborhood for years – and had friends there as Centrinex Auction Committee well as a sense of belonging. She couldn’t know it Susan Walker, Chair as high school began that September morning, but Honorary Founding Chairs Tracy Anderson that year – she and her family would become Janet and Ron Reimer Emily Branch homeless. Wilma Collado Event Co-Chairs Beth Coughlin As a single mother, LeCretia’s Mom was a Toni and Phil Sanders Ashley Crank superstar, always keeping LeCretia safe and fed Missy and Bob Kroeker Jill Kroeker and sheltered. But when they lost their home, there was no way for this fragile Karen Latshaw little family to stay together and circumstances forced them to live apart. *Carol Gilstrap and Dennis Barger Denise Lewis Freshman year is supposed to be exciting. It’s a time of self-discovery, of learning, *Kent Cable Mary Stone of finding your footing as you move into early adulthood. But freshman year for Dustin Cates and *Raymond Cattaneo Shirley Terreau LeCretia was one of loss, sadness and often times fear. She lost her room, her Brooke and *Blaine Degnan Rita Tiehen neighborhood, but most importantly – her mother was no longer by her side. *Bill Dippel Missy Bruhn and *Brad Korris * Denotes Member of the Community LINC Had it not been for Community LINC, no one knows what would have happened Jill and Nick Kroeker Board of Directors to this young family. But when they rejoined in a temporary home, LeCretia *Jeremy Lillig found herself marveling at all the family was learning. Her mother’s mentors and *Angie Makkyla especially her budgeter, Joni, was literally changing the course of this family’s Kimberley and *Nikki Newton life. They learned how to create a structure for money management and other life Jennifer and *Greg Payne skills that left LeCretia hopeful about her future. She was even more inspired by *Greg Porter her amazing mother, who not only worked every job she could, but enrolled in nursing school to finish her degree.

After high school, LeCretia followed in her mother’s footsteps, enrolling in college and graduating with a Masters in Architecture in 2009. Today she is working on her second Masters, and in her spare time – loves to help kids, just like the good people from Community LINC helped her.

Nothing speaks better to LeCretia’s Community LINC story than these words from her: “Community LINC changed my life, no doubt about it. Not only did they teach me practical skills, but they gave me back my family and together, we’ve made a wonderful new home. I wish all the people who have donated to Community LINC could hear my story. They are doing more than impacting poverty and ending homelessness ... they are reuniting families and building tomorrows. May God bless them all.”
