Start your review of Embraced by the Light. I just read this within a few hours because I'm stuck at my grandmothers on Christmas waiting for a ride home. People are way to harsh on this book! I looked through other reviews and it's filled with 1stars. The complaints are stupid like it's not written well. Well duh, she's not a writer! This is a fairly short account of a woman's near death experience. I picked it off my grandma's shelf, so not something I'd choose for myself. This is my life. While others might spend a long day at their gr I just read this within a few hours because I'm stuck at my grandmothers on Christmas waiting for a ride home. I liked this book because she stressed that the real message God wants us to know is one of love. Forget all Embraced by the Light other bullshit. It's Embraced by the Light important. We need more love in the world. The End. I think anyone can take something from this. Maybe some Embraced by the Light are a little unbelievable but we're only human and of course we're going to question whether everything is true. That's okay! The book is written at approximately an eighth grade reading level. And even if Eadie's Near Death Experience was just a hallucination, so what? I don't care if her experience was 'real' in a factual way. Even if Near Death Experiences are only the result of a dying brain, the people who live to tell the tales of their adventures in death always Embraced by the Light nice suggestions about how to live life. Basically, the people who have died and have had a Near Death Experience consistently report that life is about learning to love other people, as well as yourself. They are kinder, smarter, and simply better people due to their deaths and subsequent resuscitations. I read this book years ago and saw it at my Husband's Family's church while attending the funeral of a dear family friend and just felt compelled to pick it up again. I read it in one night and all I can say is that the second time was better than the first. You have to read it more Embraced by the Light once to get everything. I also believe that through the years several important pieces have been lost in translation or left out for some reason. So many questions have been plaguing Christians for thousands of years. What does happen when we die? Did God create other worlds, within and without the universe, capable of sustaining life? Some Pompous, Embraced by the Light than thou Christians might dismiss Betty's experience as "flights of fancy" or at the worse "heresy", but she backs up everything with biblical scripture. I would recommend this book to anyone, Christian and non-Christian, who have had a loved one pass away or are dealing with the prospect of death. Her best-known book is the No. It was followed by The Awakening Heartwhich Embraced by the Light also a best-seller. When she was four, Betty's parents separated and she was placed in St. Francis Indian School, one of the American Indian boarding schools at the time, along with six of her siblings. While in high school, she dropped out to care for Embraced by the Light younger sister. She later returned to receive her diploma, eventually pursuing a college degree. After her NDE, Betty began volunteering her time at a cancer research center comforting dying patients and their families. She then studied hypnotherapygraduating at the top of her class, and later opened her own clinic. After "Embraced" was published, Betty gave up her hypnotherapy practice and began traveling extensively throughout the United States, Canada, Great Britain and Ireland, speaking on death and the afterlife. Eadie continues to collect and evaluate near-death accounts, as well as giving speeches and lectures. In her NDE account, Eadie reports many phenomena similar to other NDE accounts, such as going through a dark tunnel, seeing a bright light and experiencing a Life reviewas well as other features unique to her story. Inat age 31, Eadie was recovering from a surgical operation. Eadie reported that she first felt herself fading to lifelessness, then felt a surge of energy followed by a "pop" and feeling of release, a sense of freedom and movement unhindered by inertia or gravity. She was met by three angelic beings who spoke with her about her prior existence and hitherto suppressed memories in order to participate in earthly experience. She traveled to terrestrial locations such as her home merely by thinking about them, returned to her hospital, and then passed on through a dark tunnel-like medium in which she reported sensing other beings in a transitory Embraced by the Light stage. Exiting the tunnel, Eadie approached an Embraced by the Light white light and met in heaven the embrace of Jesus Christ. Here it became possible to know anything or anyone in history or the present, in minute and unambiguous detail, as well as being able to observe individuals on Earth and being taken to distant reaches and civilizations of the universe. Warned initially upon arrival that she had died prematurely, Eadie was at last told she must return in order to fulfill the personal mission allocated her. Its specific character, like numerous other details, were removed from her memory, in order, she said she was told, to prevent difficulties in her fulfilling it. Upon protesting, she was made to understand the reason behind the necessity for her return and reluctantly agreed to do so. She exacted a promise that she would not be made to stay on earth longer than necessary. She reported her return to material corporeality as extremely heavy-feeling and unpleasant, initially intermittent in phases, and accompanied not long after by a demonic visitation that was cut short by an angelic reappearance. Eadie's doctor reportedly verified her clinical death on a return visit to the hospital, attributing it to a hemorrhage during a nurses' shift change, and took great interest in her recollections. Independent verification of the length of her death was not possible, but she speculated it could have lasted up to four hours based on her memory of certain details preceding and following it. Subsequent to her experience, she spoke of it very little and suffered Embraced by the Light long-term depression. This, she attributed to the anticlimactic nature of returning to corporeality Embraced by the Light experiencing the heaven of afterlife. She slowly became involved in near-death groups and studies and gave talks, subsequently going on to write her account in book form, which met with runaway success. While her account incorporated elements of traditional Christianityit also met with a certain degree of resistance as well. This was largely, in part, to its teaching as she reported she was given it that some denominations might approximate truth better than Embraced by the Light. She explains, however, that different teachings Embraced by the Light more appropriate for certain Embraced by the Light at their given stage of spiritual development, and therefore judgment should not be passed on them for where they were. Unlike many fundamentalist Christians, [2] and despite her own strict Catholic upbringing, and her conversion to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints LDS Churchafter her near-death experience, Eadie refers to God as "he" instead of "He" and insists that all religions are necessary for each person. She claims that each religion is necessary for each person, because of their different levels of spiritual enlightenment. This is contrary to the views, shared by Embraced by the Light Christians worldwide, that Christianity is the one true, valid religion. Curiously, Eadie also claims that after her encounter with Jesus, she learned that Christ and God were in fact two separate entities, a view conflicting with that of her Protestant-taught tradition of the Holy Trinity. This is, however, in keeping with the teachings of the LDS Church. In addition, unlike some other Near-Death Experiencers, Eadie claims that reincarnationas it is typically thought of, does not truly exist. She also stressed that her key lesson was that life's purpose was to learn love and to grow through the exercise of free will, including making mistakes. Other teachings she recounted being given included the idea that there were few if any true accidents and that human lives and paths were chosen, agreed to, and prepared for in advance, with memory of such details suppressed and veiled. Suicide, she said she was told, was wrong because it deprived people of opportunities to learn and grow, and Embraced by the Light there was always hope in life.
