National Update – Examination Reform • All GCSE courses have been rewritten with new schemes of assessment. • The new GCSE specifications are much more demanding and the content for all subjects has increased significantly. • Teachers are well experienced and leading practitioners in their subjects! Changes to GCSE Grading Grade 4 – Standard pass Grade 5 – Strong pass .Grade 5 is likely to become the new sought after level with many Level 3 College courses requesting this. .Grade 7 matches grade A. •Grade 9 is for “exceptional performance” Which grades should you be aiming for? Teachers will discuss target grades with students over the next few weeks SETTING TARGETS GCSE Grades A^ A* A B C D New 9-1 9 8 7 6 5/4 3/2 . GCSE target grades are set using a triangulation of KS2 data, teacher assessments and FFT5. 9 – 1 target grades are set by LP in the summer term of Year 9 for Y10 option choices. We recommend buying each of the texts and revision guides to aid homework as well as future examinations. Macbeth – ‘Oxford Student Shakespeare’ What’s happening first? The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time • Get involved in the lessons! • Bring in your copy of the text. Maths • GCSE Linear examination – Edexcel. • Three papers -1 hour 30 minutes • Each contributes 33.3% of the final grade. • Paper 1 is non-calculator • Papers 2 and 3 are with a calculator • Each paper is worth 80 marks Maths • Each paper assesses Number, Algebra, Ratio, Proportion and Rates of Change, Geometry and Measure, Probability and Statistics • The Foundation Tier grades are 1-5 • The Higher Tier grades are 4-9 Maths . AQA Separate Science (Triple award) • 2 papers for each subject. • 1 hour and 45 minutes long. • A separate grade will be awarded for each subject (Biology, Chemistry, Physics). That’s where life is and you have time, use it wisely. • You have to find a way to at least like what you do, or you will drown in the content & pressure of these reformed GCSE’s. • You chose your subjects – Follow through with this by being enthusiastic about learning. • Shift your focus from grades to effort, if you work hard and enjoy learning the grades will take care of themselves.
