Chailey School: September 2020 School Services Chailey School: September 2020 School Services Please consider alternative ways of getting to and from school, such as walking or cycling, where this is a safe option. If you travel in by car your school might ask you to drop off away from the main entrance to avoid any extra congestion. If you travel in by public bus or school bus, minibus or taxi, these are some important things you need to know: You should wash your hands before and after boarding No standing will be allowed. Please sit with others in your bubble or year group where possible. If you can, please keep your distance between students not in your bubble, as well as other passengers Windows and sunroofs will be kept open where possible to help with ventilation Face coverings are required by law for all pupils aged 11 and over on public transport, in line with government policy. Children aged 11 and over should wear a covering on all school transport if they can, as well as younger children who are able. If a child has a reason which makes them exempt, please let your school know this. We need everyone’s help to make this workable - so please discuss the importance of wearing a face covering together. Fares will continue to be charged on bus services available to students only, except students issued with a free bus pass. Please pay the exact bus fare so as to reduce cash handling. Compass Travel now also offers contactless payments by prepaid card, debit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. For details of school services see our Back to School Services website page. • December Saw the Last Few Dates of Our 'Meet Your PCSO'
December saw the last few dates of our ‘Meet your PCSO’ events, following the recent changes to PCSO allocations launched in November last year. The new way of working now gives every PCSO responsibility for a defined geographic area and with every community in Sussex now having a named PCSO. With PCSOs being assigned a primary geographic area of responsibility, based on established Wards or Electoral Division boundaries. Allocated areas: • Lewes Bridge, Castle and Priory PSCO Julie McNirlan, PCSO Eva Collins, PCSO Jen Horscroft • Ouse Valley and Ringmer PSCO Casie Brown, PCSO Abi Castle • Kingston PSCO Stephen Fenn • Barcombe, Newick and Hamsey PCSO Rose Stainer • Chailey, East Chiltington, Plumpton, Ditchling, Wivelsfield, Westmeston, Streat and St John PSCO Jack Willson • East Saltdean and Telscombe Cliffs PSCO Avril Kent • Peacehaven PSCO Christopher Marchant • Newhaven Denton, Valley and Meeching PSCO Jules Nicholson • Seaford Central and East PSCO Simon Turvey , and Seaford North and South PSCO Jane Disney Having our PCSOs working to dedicated areas means a greater visible policing across every part of the Lewes district; with PCSOs continuing to form part of our wider local prevention teams, ensuring finite police resources can be focused on the most critical issues; in addition to allowing our PSCOs to work even closer with local partners and voluntary organisations to help solve specific local issues within your towns and villages. A list of geographical areas, crime statistics, local Police Station or Contact Point, as well as our contact details can be found by visiting www.police.uk , and entering your postcode or town location. We hope to hold more ‘meet your local PCSO’ days throughout the coming months, please keep an eye on our social media pages, or sign up to our weekly Police newsletter here: www.intheknow.community Community engagement throughout December and January PCSOs are on the frontline of policing – out and about on the streets, talking to people, building relationships and understanding local issues.

CHAILEY SCHOOL A Specialist Language and Humanities College Headteacher: Mrs Helen Key MA (Ed) UNIFORM REQUIREMENTS YEARS 7-11 This detailed information sheet about our uniform requirements is designed to make things as clear as possible for parents when purchasing these items for their sons and daughters. The full list of uniform items, PE kit and equipment is given overleaf. Please do not hesitate to contact the Student Support Manager for your child’s year group should you need further advice/clarification. Our Student Support Managers are: Mrs J Hickman (Year 7) Mrs L Hutchinson (Years 8 and 9) Mrs F Kinderman (Years 10 and 11) General information regarding uniform The Chailey blazer is compulsory at all times in school. The school jumper may be added for extra warmth, but may not be worn instead of the blazer. Fashion items in colours, fabrics or styles noticeably different from the items from our suppliers are not acceptable school uniform. Please do not allow your child to convince you otherwise. If in doubt please contact your child’s Student Support Manager. The prescribed skirt length ensures that for all our female students, their skirt will be an appropriate length for school. Trainers are not school uniform – even black ones. Plain, black school shoes are required. If in doubt, look when shopping for the distinguishing marks of training shoes – logos, multiple lacing holes, soles that “wrap up” onto the upper, the lack of a distinct heel, and raised Achilles tendon guards at the back of the shoe. If footwear has some or all of these features we are likely to view them as training shoes.

  • Newhaven Town Council Annual Report 2009-2010
Picture courtesy of the Sussex Express Newhaven Town Council Annual Report 2009-2010 Introduction by the Town Mayor Councillor Carla Butler It was a great honour to be chosen as the 26 th Mayor of Newhaven and it has been a year that I will never forget. My main objective during my term was to support the young people of the town who often get a bad press. One way I wanted to achieve this was by the introduction of a “Young Mayor”. In July Daly Tucknott was elected as Young Mayor and Chloe Leister as deputy. Although at times we learnt how the project would work as we went along it has been very successful and there has been a lot of positive feedback from the public and other authorities along the way. I would like to thank both Daly and Chloe for their support and especially Daly for accompanying me at so many events throughout the year. I was particularly pleased that it was agreed Daly could join me in the line up to meet Her Royal Highness Princess Anne when she visited Tideway School. This had the effect of showing to other people the importance of the role. It also proved that young people can learn that they can make a difference and contribution before they can even vote and they are still able to influence decisions which are made. I have been able to support many fundraising objectives of different groups in the town. Most surprising for me was whilst helping raise funds for the local branch of Mencap, I found out that they receive no funds from Mencap itself and rely totally on volunteers and their own fundraising.
