Indistinguishable from E. retroflexa without a dissecting microscope. This species forms dense mats along the creeks downriver from Rio Palenque. Probably some of the uncollected waif populations at the edge of the river on the Science Center are also this species. Texas and Alabama to Argentina. Eleocharis retroflexa (Poir.) Urb.
