WOW!! What a day!! Taste of Soul has become the largest Annual Event in Los Angeles and to have it on Crenshaw Boulevard in the heart of the Black Community is something that fills my heart with Joy and Pride. . I hope that everyone who came out shared that same experience of togetherness, of celebration, of shear happiness that I felt. Taste of Soul is an annual demonstration of what we know our community is and can be. It is a collaboration of efforts between the City and County of Los Angeles, major corporations like Hyundai Motors of America, Bank of America, The Law Offices of Ivie, McNeill and Wyatt and so many more all working collectively to create a better community for us all. Taste of Soul is a demonstration of the POWER that together we share with the world. It is that day and that moment when we can all feel like no matter what is going on anything is possible. I had the opportunity to walk around and share the joy and love with so many of you who came out and celebrated. I saw our young people and our seniors walking together enjoying ribs, fish and chicken. Families sharing desserts and everyone was just so joyful! None of this would have been possible if not for the hard work of so many who have put in countless hours to bring this day into frui- tion. I start off thanking my partners in the day: Mother’s In Action, 102.3 KJLH, 94.7 The WAVE, CBS 2/KCAL 9, Brotherhood Crusade, Law Firm: Ivie, McNeill & Wyatt, LA City, LA County and AAUC. The 102.3 KJLH Stage was off the hook, but more importantly their dedication to the day, to the event itself and their continued work to making life better for us all is truly a Blessing. Then our friends at 94.7 THE WAVE! You guys are great, your team is great and your commitment to this event cannot be explained and THANK YOU is really not enough. Special thanks to all of our corporate sponsors who support the community and make sure that Taste of Soul is FREE every year: Hyundai, City National Bank, Airbnb, Metro, Kaiser Permanente, South Coast Air Quality Management District, McDonald’s, Law Firm: Ivie, McNeill & Wyatt, Bank of America, LA County, Brotherhood Crusade, Walsh/Shea, Wells Fargo, California Resources Corporation, Plenary Group, Chase Bank, Metropolitan Water District, USC, SEIU Local 2015, Californians for Energy Inde- pendence, Greyhound, Comerica, AT&T, Uber, Watts Health, Nielsen, Nestle Waters, LA City Workforce Investment Board, SoCalGas, Super Heroic, Encore Capital Group, Charles R. Drew University, UCLA Health, US Bank, DaVita, West Basin Municipal Water District, UCLA, Metro PCS, City of Hope, Walmart, Los Angeles World Airports, Cedars-Sinai and Burden to Bear. I hope everyone had the opportunity to pass by the McDonald’s Inspiration Celebration Gospel Tour hosted on the Brenda Marsh Mitchell Gospel Stage. Church is and has always been a cornerstone of our community to having McDonald’s as a part of the event and the McDonald’s Black Operators as part of the day is indescribable but certainly a gift from God. A special thanks to Holman United Methodist Church for partnering to bring local gospel talent! This year we added a new feature to the StarQuest Soundstage. Hyundai has turned StarQuest into another high energy showcase stage. Brandy, Doug E Fresh, Kool Moe Dee and so many other artists provided a truly delightful show right in the center of Taste of Soul following our StarQuest Singing Competition, which highlighted some of the best talent our community has to offer! Most people don’t understand the astronomical task that it takes to put together such a large event that remains free to everyone. But the people who make this happen every year are the many workers of LA City and LA County. LA DOT does a phenomenal job of insuring everyone is safe and sound, the Department of Sanitation, the LA County Health Dept. and so many other individuals spend so much of their time to make this happen. Service partners: Able Solutions Security, LAPD, LAFD, LAUSD (for providing public park- ing lots), Angelus Funeral Home, Health Department, Sanitation and CHP all made sure the event went smooth. So as we return back to our normal lives let Council President Herb Wesson, Mayor Eric Garcetti, Councilmembers Curren Price and Marqueece Harris-Dawson and Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas know just how great a day it was and say Thank You. Thank you to our Co-Chairs: Congressmember Karen Bass, Assemblymember Reggie Jones-Sawyer, Assemblymember Autumn Burke, Assemblymem- ber Sebastian Ridley-Thomas, LAUSD District 1: George McKenna, KCBS-Channel 2, Pat Harvey and Law Firm: Ivie, McNeill & Wyatt. Say thank you to the many men and women of LAPD and LAFD because they are the ones who have put so much to be a part of this day and make it great for us all. Our health providers also made sure that everyone was taken care of: Kaiser Permanente, W. King Health- care, Watts Health, LAFD & Martin Luther King Jr. Hospital.

And lastly, to the staff of the Los Angeles Sentinel. Your commitment and dedication to our community is truly inspiring. You contin- uously go above and beyond the call of duty. You share the belief in the African American Community that allows us to put together such an extraordinary event and all I can say is Thank You and I hope you all got some rest! We have a paper to get out this week!!! I also want to say Thank You to all of the millions of people who come out to Taste of Soul every year, to the vendors who start cook- ing in the whee hours of the morning to be able to share the love with those in attendance . We have made Taste of Soul an annual event and an institution within our community and we will continue to work to make sure that Taste of Soul remains the biggest, baddest and most joyful event in our community. SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!!

Yours In Brotherhood
