A plucky member, Norm Patze, managed to sneak this great photo of it before making a rather hasty retreat. The photo was put onto the Myakka Pines Golf club and went viral within hours. There was even a vote to name the gator and the general public could vote between three names – Goliath, Viral or Myakka Mike. Almost 100 people voted and it was decided the gator’s name should be Goliath!

And it didn’t stop there! To raise money for a local wildlife centre, the golf course has produced a t-shirt with a picture of Goliath on it! A replica of Goliath was also created for the club by a local company using a 3D printer. He even made a brief appearance on the front page of the CNN website and there was a mention of Goliath in the New York Times. What a star!

Women allowed LADIES GOLF at St George’s (although still no dogs!)

The club which once had a sign declaring ‘No dogs, no women’ has at last modernised and voted to allow female club members. One of the last clubs in the UK to stick with a ‘men only’ rule, the Kent club will now admit women after 90% of members voted in favour of the motion. Royal St George’s is one of the South’s most notable clubs and has hosted 14 Open Championships. Tim Checketts, club secretary, said St George’s was “delighted at the outcome” and “looking forward to having some junior ladies and lady members in the future”.

The vote leaves only two Open clubs presently not admitting female members, both in Scotland: Muirfield in East Lothian, home of the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, and Royal Troon in South Ayrshire. Golf courses are able to side-step equality legislation as they are private members clubs. 59 WILTSHIRE Success for Taylor Stote

Over 80 junior golfers from across the country congregated at Hawkstone Park to contest the Hawkstone Boys 54 hole tournament, and it was Taylor Stote who finished at the top of the leaderboard. The competition is recognised by England Golf and will hopefully bring his name to

G l ouc ester SHIRE the attention of the national selectors. England Boys Squad Manager said afterwards “In the final round Taylor played with Toby Briggs, a member of the England Boys Squad, and member of the South East Regional Under 16s Charlie Strickland. Taylor coped with the pressure very well and had composure similar to Jordan Spieth”. Praise indeed!

On the Wednesday, he ended the first round in 2nd place after shooting an opening 68, 2 behind the leader Charlie Strickland from Ham Manor. In the afternoon round, he pulled back the deficit IN WILTshire with a solid 73 and ended the day tied for the lead. Golf Clubs The field was reduced to 42 for the final round on Thursday, and another strong performance saw Taylor return a score of 72 to win the title by a clear 3 shot margin. Runner up was Toby Briggs from Dunston Hall, who finished on 216, 1 shot ahead of Charlie who just could not maintain his form and returned a final round score of 76. Robert Tyre “Bobby” Jones Jr was born in 1902 in December in Atlanta, Georgia. His early childhood was plagued by health issues and he was advised to take up a gentle sport, such as golf, to strengthen him up. He loved the sport from the very outset and by the age of six, he had won his first tournament and had made the finals of several other

GOLFING GREAT events. He was soon labelled a child prodigy and at the age of 14, he reached the quarter finals of the U.S Amateur as well as winning the Georgia State Amateur Championship.

His talent was clear and his parents allowed him to take coaching from Stewart Maiden, from Scotland, who fostered his talent. During World War I he toured the US doing exhibition matches in front of some very large crowds. Then in 1919, he got the chance to represent the USA for the first time in matches against Canada. At the tender age of 18, he qualified for the US Open. It seemed a major win was just around the corner.

And that win came in 1923, at his third attempt at the US Open. From that win at New York’s Inwood Country Club, through his 1930 victory in the U.S. Amateur, he won 13 major championships (as they were counted at the time) in 20 attempts. Jones was the first player to win The Double, both the U.S. and British Open Championships in the same year (1926). He was the second (and last) to win the U.S. Open and U.S. Amateur in the same year (1930), first accomplished in 1916 by Chick Evans.

And then in 1930 he became the only player ever at that time to have won the Grand Slam. Jones made a bet on himself achieving this extraordinary feat with British bookmakers early in 1930, before the first tournament of the Slam, at odds of 50–1, and collected over $60,000 when he did it.

But he was also a great success off the course, having earned a B.S in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech early in his career. He later earned an A.B in English Literature from Harvard and then studied law, joining the bar and working at his father’s law firm for a few years before his golfing career really took off.

Jones played in the first dozen Masters, through 1948, but only in the first as a competitor. By then, his health at age 46 had declined to the stage where this was no longer possible. With his health difficulties, being past his prime, and not competing elsewhere to stay in tournament form, he never truly contended at the Masters, although his scores were usually respectable. These were almost all ceremonial performances, since his main duty was as host of the event. His extraordinary popularity, efforts with the course design, and tournament organization boosted the profile of the Masters significantly.

When his playing career was drawing to a close, he started to make instructional films and also did some work in club design. In 1948, Jones was diagnosed with syringomyelia, a fluid-filled cavity in his spinal cord which caused first crippling pain, then paralysis; he was eventually restricted to a wheelchair. He died in Atlanta on December 18, 1971

DST – Locate the Optimal Impact PRODUCTS Position

DST stands for Delayed Strike Technology. DST golf clubs force you to locate, train and perfect the optimal impact position. Impact is the moment of truth in the swing, it is the only position that really matters. The secret of golf is to have a delayed strike or lag impact where your hands lead the clubface through impact. When your hands lead the club face through impact you maintain control over the clubface until after the ball has been struck and compress the ball at impact. Controlling the clubface through impact means you control the distance and accuracy of your ball.

DST golf clubs have been designed to simplify the swing and strip out complicated and unnecessary movements, by pre-setting your hands at address into a position that closely replicates the optimal impact position. So you build muscle memory of an address position and optimal movement through impact. The optimal impact position is the same for all normal shots and does not change regardless of whether you are hitting a chip, pitch or full shot. So when you master the optimal impact position all areas of your game will improve. You will achieve greater accuracy because you control the clubface until after the ball has been struck. Your ball striking will become more consistent because in the optimal impact position the club head travels down the target line for longer, resulting in greater control and accuracy.

The biggest challenge in golf is consistency. To be consistent you need to reach the optimal impact position every time you swing a club. The best ball strikers in the world reach the optimal impact position where they maintain control over the club clubface until after the ball has been struck, on every shot. If you lose control of the club face prior to impact you will have no control over your accuracy and suffer from inconsistent ball striking, resulting in being frustrated with your game. The optimal impact position is a position which is rarely practiced but is the moment of truth in the golf swing. DST Clubs are the first clubs ever to enable a player to locate and train the optimal impact position.

The best players and coaches in the world warm up and train with DST clubs because they know they’re ingraining a movement and sensation which the best ball strikers in history felt. The golf swing is a matter of developing a repeatable and reliable action that holds up under pressure, so practice what’s important “the moment of truth” and get your DST warm- up clubs today. www.dstgolf.com CMM creates new career pathway for golf graduates Senior Moments Talented candidates who successfully graduate from UK universities and colleges now have an exciting new pathway to a career in the global golf Whether it’s help, advice or leisure ideas, industry.
