GOLF Magazine Releases New List of Top 100 Teachers in America 11 elite teachers added to the industry’s definitive instruction roster

GOLF Magazine has released its biennial list of the Top 100 Teachers in America for 2015- 2016. New members will be introduced at the PGA Teaching & Coaching Summit at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, on January 18, 2015. The complete Top 100 Teachers list will appear in the April 2015 print issue, and the January 21 SI Golf + Digital e-mag.

Since its inception in 1996, GOLF Magazine’s Top 100 Teachers in America list has become the industry standard for teaching excellence due to the diligent selection process that GOLF Magazine employs to assemble the list.

“Every two years the Credential and Selection committees dedicate a lot of time and research to recognize the golf industry’s best teachers by naming them to our Top 100 list,” said David DeNunzio, Managing Editor for Instruction for GOLF Magazine. “These individuals have been selected because of their commitment to broaden the appeal of golf by helping their students understand and enjoy the game.”

Candidates for GOLF Magazine’s Top 100 Teachers in America list are selected from nominees submitted by the PGA, LPGA, United States Golf Teachers Federation, top industry executives and GOLF Magazine readers. On average, more than 250 nominations are accepted from the country’s 25,000 instruction professionals. Each nominee must complete a thorough questionnaire developed in conjunction with Dr. Robert Christina, professor emeritus of the University of —Greensboro School of Health and Human Performance.

The applications are screened against 15 baseline criteria recommended by the Top 100 Teachers Credentials Committee and are then examined and ranked by a group comprised of 15 active and former Top 100 Teachers. Final recommendations are then made by a separate Selection Committee, comprised of GOLF Magazine's instruction editors, established Top 100 Teachers and alumni, and invited World Golf Teachers Hall of Fame members. The recommendations of the Selection Committee are submitted to GOLF Magazine for the final decision.

The Top 100 list is the only national golf instructor roster that combines outside academic and PGA Professional peer review. In addition, candidates are judged on their willingness to give back to the game and to the PGA and LPGA through one of the following: apprentice education, member continued education, research or lesson programs.

GOLF Magazine’s Top 100 Teachers in America further distinguishes itself in that it is structured as an organization rather than a simple listing. Its members interact to improve upon player education, instruction techniques, public outreach and research on the way the game is taught and played.

His resume includes earning all-American honors at Oklahoma State University, playing on the PGA and Champions Tours, instructing and coaching more than 100 Tour professionals, teaching and mentoring professional instructors, and tireless research on swing mechanics.

The book’s national and international success spawned a hugely popular DVD series and a second book, “The Plane Truth for Golfers: Master Class,” which was presented as a series of lessons.

Hardy’s third book, “Solid Contact,” presents his unique diagnosis code using a plus/minus system, which allows golfers and instructors to correctly diagnose faults in any swing. With his Plane Truth Golf partner, Chris O’Connell, Hardy has created a number of instructor-certification programs worldwide that have been completed by more than 350 teachers. He has presented as a featured instructor four different times at the PGA Teaching & Coaching Summit.

Gildersleeve-Jensen also is the first Pacific Northwest PGA member to be honored as the national PGA Teacher of the Year. She was appointed to the Pacific Northwest Section Board of Directors in 2012, the first woman named in governance in the Section’s history. That year, she also was named the Pacific Northwest PGA Teacher of the Year, which emanated from guiding more than 100 youth to achieve collegiate success; having the highest–ranked youth tournament players in Washington/Idaho; and having many adult players who have become club champions. Included among her list of players are celebrities, as well as Canadian, Asian and Professionals.

In 2013, Golf Digest selected Gildersleeve-Jensen No. 4 in its Best Teachers in State roster.

Born in Baker City, Oregon, Gildersleeve-Jensen first played golf at age 9. She was inspired by her father, Chuck, who played golf at Washington State University and her mother, Kay, who was a 10-handicap player.

After competing at Oregon State University, Gildersleeve-Jensen found many PGA Professionals prepared to mentor her. In particular, she credits PGA members Joe Durgan and his son, John, for supporting her career.

Gildersleeve-Jensen also has benefited from the teaching and clubfitting knowledge shared by Randy and Ross Henry of Henry-Griffitts Golf, and their staff.

Gildersleeve-Jensen continually incorporates new technology, science and social media into her work, including Web Cam Live Personal Online lessons. She is an eBook author of “How to Play Golf Inside 50 Yards” and has written countless magazine articles on the game. JIM McLEAN, PGA

Jim McLean is the PGA Director of Golf at Doral Golf Resort and Spa in Miami. He is also the owner of the Jim McLean Golf Schools in Florida, Texas, , California, New Jersey, Utah, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic.

McLean has authored more than 20 top-selling instructional books, videos and DVDs. Yet, he is best known for his research on the golf swing, which led to him coining the terms the “X” and “Y” Factors. The X Factor describes body motions, body angles and body positions of golfers. Another unique teaching tool that McLean brainstormed, the Eight Step Swing teaching system, became both a book and video. The video is still the No. 1 golf DVD sold in America, and the book was ranked by Sports Illustrated as one of the top golf instruction books of the 20th century.

In addition to earning All-American honors as a player at the University of Houston, McLean’s achievements in the game are laudable. He is one of very few people to have ever qualified for the U.S. Junior, the U.S. Amateur (four times), the U.S. Open (twice) and the U.S. Senior Open. McLean was named Section Teacher of the Year several times in Florida, and in 1994, he was the recipient of the National PGA Teacher of the Year Award.

McLean has mentored and coached more than 100 PGA, LPGA and Champions Tour players, including , , , and Sergio Garcia. He has also worked extensively with junior golfers (to name a few: , , James Vargas, , Tyler Leon) who, since 1996, have all reached the No. 1 ranking in America. No fewer than eight instructors on GOLF Magazine’s Top 100 Teachers learned under McLean’s guidance.

GREG NORMAN, PGA

Since turning professional in 1976, Greg Norman has captured 91 tournament victories worldwide, including two Open Championships. He spent 331 weeks as the No. 1 player in the world and became a World Golf Hall of Fame inductee in 2001.

Norman has approached business with the same vigor with which he attacked the golf course and parlayed his success into a multi- national corporation, Great White Shark Enterprises (GWSE), for which he currently serves as Chairman & CEO.

With 17 different businesses today, GWSE is a mini-conglomerate with a diverse portfolio of well-established and successful companies ranging from lifestyle-driven consumer products (apparel, wine, beef, sunglasses) to golf course design, event management (three PGA Tour events), real estate development, investment funds and a restaurant, to name a few.

While his well-documented accomplishments on the golf course have assured Norman’s place in sporting history, his sound business acumen has established him as a world-class entrepreneur.
