A scenic walk from Offa’s Dyke Centre, Knighton, thru Kingsley Woods and Stowe onto Stowe Hill, returning via Offa’s Dyke to Knighton. Steep ascent onto Stowe Hill and steep descent into Knighton via Panpuntan Hill. Meet 09:00 Meole Brace Park and Ride. Walk from Leebotwood through fields, and then along the base of the Lawley to reach the NE end of the ridge. A gentle climb and descent of the ridge, followed by a traverse across pastures to arrive back at the pub. Please note: parking space restricted because of preferential needs of the pub's Sunday lunch clientele. Full cars from Abbey Foregate, please! The walk will start in Church Stretton, up Snatchfields to the Gaerstone ridge and Willstone to Cardington. Returning via The Wilderness and Cwms Lane with the option of an ascent of Caer Caradoc. Woodland and field paths, a little road walking. Crossings of A49 and the railway line. An opportunity to see Stokesay Castle (English Heritage, £8.60 for non-members) Chance of a cup of tea at castle or Discovery Centre. Meet 09:30 Harvester Car Park. Llan Farm. Undulating with some long steep climbs and descents along quiet lanes, good open forestry tracks and field paths. Poles may be useful. A lovely walk in very remote country, plus this is arguably, the only English area where the red kite has naturally taken up residence from its mid-Wales stronghold, so sighting of this magnificent raptor is likely. Opportunity for good refreshments in Clun (The White Horse is one of my favourite pubs)! at the finish. Meet 09:30 Abbey Foregate car park. Taking in Cotton Dell, deer parkland, passing near Alton Towers and Alton village (known as Little Switzerland) and parts of the Churnet Valley. A different area for Shrewsbury Ramblers but still with a connection to Shrewsbury, come along to find out! Leaders will meet walkers at start of walk. Note earlier meet time. We ascend on the main path, to reach the summit trig point, which stands at 1335 feet. Descend the same way to pay a brief visit to the peaceful spot of Wellington`s old water supply. There will be an opportunity for refreshments after the walk - possibly the Horseshoes at Uckington. Walking south from Whitton in the River Lugg Valley towards Ednol Farm then heading east and north to return along Offa’s Dyke, passing by Dolley Green, before finally descending back into the Lugg Valley.
