2017 Florida Gators Track & Field 2017 FLORIDA GATORS TRACK & FIELD 7 NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS | 103 INDIVIDUAL NATIONAL TITLES | 25 SEC CHAMPIONSHIPS Reigning National Champions • Florida’s men are coming off their sixth national title since 2010--more than any other program in that span--with its victory at NCAA Outdoors. • Of the Gators’ 62 points scored at NCAA Outdoors, 49 were individual, and athletes responsible for 39 of those individual points are back this year. • After last year’s seventh-place finish at NCAA Indoors--thefirst time it finished outside the top three in the last 14 NCAA Championships- -Florida became the third team since 1992 to win NCAA Outdoors after finishing outside the top five at NCAA Indoors. • Florida was also the only team since at least 1965 to finish lower than 2017 SCHEDULE fourth at a conference meet and win the NCAA Outdoor Championships, as it finished sixth at SEC Outdoors, its lowest finish since 1996. June 22-25 USATF Outdoor Championships Sacramento, Calif. • Florida’s women finished tied for 14th at NCAA Indoor Championships, but are bolstered by the return of stud sprinters Kyra Jefferson and Shayla Sanders--neither of whom had indoor eligibility this year. • The Gators finished tied for 9th at the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Championships, largely due to Jefferson’s injuries keeping her out of the 200 and off both the 4x1 and 4x4 relays, as well as Sanders’ false start in the 100 prelims. Men’s Returning 2016 NCAA Scorers: KeAndre Bates - Triple Jump (2nd place / 8 points) • Holloway won the 60 hurdles title and took fifth in the long jump at SEC Indoors, becoming Bates - Long Jump (3rd place / 6 points) the first man since at least 2001 to score in both those events; he was also the second freshman since 2000 to win the 60 hurdles title--Eddie Lovett, Florida (2011). Anders Eriksson - Hammer Throw (5th place / 4 points) Kunle Fasasi - 4x400 relay (2nd place / 8 points) • Holloway was the second Division I true freshman since 2002 to break 7.60 in the 60 hurdles, joining Omar McLeod (7.57, 7.58 at 2014 NCAA Indoors) as the only other man Eric Futch - 400 Hurdles ( / 10 points) NCAA Champion to do it. TJ Holmes - 400 Hurdles (2nd place / 8 points) • Holloway was also the sixth Division I true freshman since 2002 to indoor long jump over 8.00m, and three others are Gators--Marquis Dendy (8.06m, 2012), KeAndre Women’s Returning 2016 NCAA Scorers: Bates (8.02m, 2015), Christian Taylor (8.02m, 2009).     2018 FLORIDA GATORS TRACK & FIELD 9 NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS | 110 INDIVIDUAL NATIONAL TITLES | 27 SEC CHAMPIONSHIPS Reigning Back-to-Back NCAA Outdoor Champions • Florida’s men claimed their second consecutive victory at NCAA Outdoors last June, also tying them with Arkansas (1992-2000) for the longest streak of top-3 finishes at the meet (9) by a men’s program since 1956. • Of the Gators’ 61.5 points scored at NCAA Outdoors, 56.5 were individual, and athletes responsible for 39.5 of those individual points are back this year. KeAndre Bates (20) and Grant Holloway (18) combined for 38. • A third consecutive title would make the Gators the first program to win three straight at NCAA Outdoors since Texas A&M did so from 2009-11. UTEP (1978-82) and Arkansas (1992-99) are the only other programs since 1975 to win three in a row. 2018 SCHEDULE • Another NCAA Outdoors title would be the Gators’ fifth all time, joining them INDOOR with Arkansas (10) as the only other program to win five since 1980. KeAndre Bates (20) and Grant Holloway (18) combined for 38. • A third consecutive title would make the Gators the first program to win three straight at NCAA Outdoors since Texas A&M did so from 2009-11.
