The HSRCA Groups M and O Racing Register – Newsletter No.15 Group M 1961 to 1965 Group O 1966 to 1969 By Ed Holly Registrar - [email protected] Welcome to the 2nd M and O newsletter for 2011. The Historic Racing scene has been well catered for in the last 3 months with meetings at Morgan Park, Mallala, Winton, Lakeside and Eastern Creek, and yes this is the 15th Newsletter ! Interest in the M and O racing category continues to be strong, and the ex Andrew Fellowes‟ Brabham BT23C FVA in the hands of Damon Hancock has added another car to the very pointy ends of our grids. Once again John Bowe showed how much he likes being without wings, taking the Trevor Simpson owned Brabham BT23B onto the podium in every race at our Winter Eastern Creek meeting, as was the Brabham BT21C of Les Wright, 3 times with Les at the wheel and in the last event with Ross Hodgson sampling it. Also in the newsletter are notes about - the next Tasman Revival and its Patron, Frank Matich – a follow-up on F1 in schools with the help of the race-bearing company, ACL and a contact there – a newly found aluminum repairer and fabricator – a list of Brabham/MRD employees from the mid to late 1960s – a note from our NZ counterparts about their event in 2013 which will follow our Tasman Revival – some Group Gossip – plus other relevant happenings. But before we get too far, Herb Neal will do anything to get on the front page as the Peter Schell photo below shows. -

Not only are we running race meetings we are starting to plan next year’s calendar. Events will follow a similar pattern to this season and we will be working to give classes a month between meetings and the opportunity to run at Pukekohe, Hampton Downs and Taupo. At two day meetings, classes can opt to run on just one day if they prefer. One day meetings are good as all practice and all three races are done in the day. The disadvantage is that that you miss out on a bit of social interaction and if you have a problem you have less time to fix it. Another suggestion that has been made is that we make all the meetings FREE for spectator entry and charge a small amount $2 for a race programme (Competitors would get the programme as an electronic copy as usual as part of their Final Instructions). We hope that free entry would boost the spectator numbers and give competitors better exposure for their sponsors. HRC relies on the gate to offset a small amount of the cost of running a meeting, so entry fees would have to rise by $20 a meeting which we are reluctant to do being aware that entry fees are high anyway. -

November 2019 PO Box 27063, Mt Roskill, Auckland, New Zealand 1440 Phone: (09) 620-9797 MSNZ Meet & Greet evening held at the clubrooms in Oct Auckland Car Club’s Monthly Magazine – Race, Rally, Clubsport and more… FROM THE PRESIDENT Well we have just had a very busy month at the Auckland Car Club with many events happening. One event worth noting in particular is our Annual Roll of Honour ceremony held at the club rooms on the 16th of November where once again there were around 100 attendees. This event certainly gives you an idea of how the club has been in the lives of so many over the years. So much history, so many people that have come before us, certainly before me anyway, who have contributed so much to the sport and to the club. The Roll of Honour goes a little way to recognising and recording the achievement of these people. Congratulations to those 20 people that made it onto the board this year and thank you all that attended to make it such a great occasion. We start work almost immediately on next year’s ceremony and we welcome nominations from you out there that maybe go back a little further than some of us. There are three senior members of the club that are responsible for the selection process – Ted Jarvis, Mark Sheehan and Brian Rice or you can contact Craig Holmes the club secretary to propose your nominees. On behalf of the club I thank all four of the members mentioned above for their outstanding effort to be able to host this prestigious event. -

I have one more Clerk of the Course duty to fulfil for TACCOC at Hampton Downs in December and then that’s it for me also and looking forward to a break. We have had a busy time of late both at the clubrooms and at the track and I’ll start with the track first. Earlier this year in January we ran our first meeting at Taupo for many years but the date didn’t seem to sit well with many with the event being poorly attended overall and the club suffered a rather large financial loss. According to a survey of competitors we carried out more than 75% wanted to include Taupo as part of the annual competition and so we arranged to return in November hoping it would suit more people. This time we had over 80 competitors, which was very pleasing, and the club went part way to covering costs and making up the losses from our first foray south. The club must thank the competitors and teams that made the long trek down and in particular ACJS, Production Race Series, Northern Muscle Cars and North Island Formula Ford. -

Historic Formula Ford News November 2008 Revival. Although the Tasman Cars are the feature event, we have almost thirty FF cars entered and more to come, justifying our inclusion in this major meeting. We will be competing of course for the John Leffler Trophy with many and varied gifts to be given to worthy competitors and the various class winners. I trust all can attend as it will be a great event with a DTE winner or two to present the prizes. A newsletter for enthusiasts of Historic Formula Next year we are endeavouring to include Victoria.
