During the early and middle 1950s, the air base supported the command's emergency war plan as staging areas for bombers pointed at the Soviet Union. Sources By August 1950 Operational Storage Sites for nuclear weapons storage were under contract in French Morocco at Nouasseur, Sidi Slimane, and Ben Guerir. These storage sites were under construction in May 1951. Nouasseur [sometimes mis-spelled Nousasseur] was critically important for SAC during its first reflex exercises. Nouasseur hosted the B-36 bomber, with an asphalted-concrete runways of 12,000. As of late April 1951 SAC authorized a double-cantilever hangar for Nouasseur, one of its bases beginning construction in French Morocco. The Nouasseur hangar is documented by its footprint on maps of late 1951 as either a B-36 hangar (580 by 244 feet) or an expansible B-36 hangar (560 by 244 feet), and had foundations under construction by late autumn. The Air Force inspection report of December describes this structure as "the Pacific Iron and Steel Company Hangar Building," indicating that it was likely at least planned from one of the Mills & Petticord designs. The Nouasseur SAC hangar in fact may be either the Mills & Petticord hangar of January-February 1951, the firm's hangar of August 1951, or, one of the first built from the final Kuljian Corporation designs for the SAC bomber maintenance hangar-if SAC delayed construction past the foundations until early in 1952. -

MEDRESET Working Papers No. 32, December 2018 Assessing EU–Mediterranean Policies in the Field of Energy from a Bottom-Up Perspective: The Case of Morocco Margherita Bianchi, Lorenzo Colantoni, Federico Mascolo and Nicolò Sartori1 Abstract The purpose of this report is to evaluate the effectiveness of EU policies and measures in the energy field in light of the needs and interests of local bottom-up actors in Morocco. The report firstly provides an overview of the Moroccan energy sector. It reviews the most relevant literature to define current and future trends, to identify the major challenges, analyse current national energy policies and assess their social impacts; then it describes the framework of EU energy policies in Morocco. In the second part, the report discusses the needs and interests of local bottom-up actors in the energy field mainly drawing on the recursive multi-stakeholder consultations held by the researchers in the field. In line with MEDRESET research questions, it highlights the most relevant issues brought up by the local respondents and a few EU stakeholders, evaluating their perception of current Moroccan and EU energy policies in the country and reporting their suggestions for improvements. Eleventh Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) Summit Meeting 5-7 December 2018, Marrakesh, Morocco LOGISTICS NOTE 1 FOR PARTICIPANTS OVERVIEW The Eleventh Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) will be held in Marrakesh from 5-7 December 2018. The GFMD is the largest voluntary, informal and non-binding government-led multi-stakeholder platform for dialogue and cooperation in the field of migration and development. While remaining outside the United Nations, the GFMD has supported and aligned its agenda with emerging processes, including the UN-led process of elaborating a Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM), to be adopted at the Intergovernmental Conference on Migration to be held in Morocco in December 2018. The Eleventh GFMD Summit Meeting will take place in the framework of the GFMD 2017-2018 Co- Chairmanship of Germany and Morocco. Under the overarching theme, “Honouring International Commitments to Unlock the Potential of All Migrants for Development” the Meeting will serve as a continuation of the Tenth GFMD Summit Meeting in Berlin in 2017. The three-day Government-led Meeting on 5-7 December will feature Roundtable discussions, a Common Space for government and non-governmental stakeholders, a GFMD Business Meeting, GFMD’s Platform for Partnerships, a special session on the Future of the GFMD, and side events. As in the past, the Summit Meeting will be preceded by the GFMD Civil Society Days, to be held on 4-6 December in Marrakesh. The GFMD Civil Society process is coordinated by the International Catholic Migration Commission (ICMC).
