Her career took a meandering route through London’s wild rave scene to running a nightlife business, via yoga training in Thailand. It was in these years as a rock n’rolling stone that Hayley’s unique aesthetic took shape. In 2011, Hayley Menzies set up a stall in Portobello Market selling vintage fashion and handmade recycled fur scarves. Her sharp edits amassed a fast and loyal following of stylish women who inspired Hayley to set up her own brand. Through intuition and passion Hayley conceptualised her brand, a contemporary womenswear brand made for life’s refined rebels. Hayley Menzies is now stocked in over 100 stores in 17 countries worldwide. THE COLLECTIONS THE VALUES THE COLLECTIONS The spirit of Portobello resides in each and every Hayley Menzies piece. It’s a huntergatherer style, rich with references picked up at vintage stalls, travels to Goa or house parties that never end. Every collection conjures up a different fantasy and is meticulously pieced together using the finest fabrics. Hayley hand sketches each print and works with herself as a fit model to develop new silhouettes each season, expertly blending influences and ideas to create pieces that are as fresh and unique as the women who wear them. At Hayley Menzies we have an uncompromising approach to the quality of materials used and the finish of each garment, and this is what ultimately defines the long-lasting appeal of our collections. THE VALUES We believe in the importance of sustainable practice. We stand for high quality products which are made to endure the adventures of our customers. The craft and fabrics of our collections are of utmost importance to us. All of our design development is done here in West London. We carefully source our knitwear yarns in Italy: from wool to lurex, everything is personally chosen by Hayley in Florence and is of the highest standard. We then work with a mother-and-daughter run factory in Romania to produce the pieces. Our silks are developed, printed and produced in the UK and pieced together in a family-run factory in Bulgaria. We know the people who make our beautiful pieces – this is integral to the Hayley Menzies ethic. We are constantly working on new ways to reduce our footprint and believe that our choices should have positive effect on the people, elements and the surrounding environment each step of the way. METRO PICTURES Sutphin, Eric. “Review: Sputterances,” Frieze.com (April 22, 2017). Detail of Charles Burchfield, Summer, 1926 As its title suggests, ‘Sputterances’ has much to do with language – specifically the degrees to which an artist succeeds or fails at communicating an idea and the ways in which the content of paintings can be ‘read’. The exhibition includes the work of 21 visual artists and a poem contributed by Ben Lerner, which is printed on card with an illustration and available to takeaway. It is organized by Sanya Kantarovsky, who was adroit in his selections, making visual and affective connections only discernible to a painter invested in the craft and history of the medium. Kantarovsky has borrowed the show’s title from Dutch painter René Daniëls, who defines ‘sputterance’ as the ‘sum of two opposing actions—a sputter and an utterance.’ Though not exclusively devoted to figuration, the exhibition is packed with images of human and creaturely bodies. The show opens with a large painting by Daniëls, Het verloen huis teruggevonden (The lost house found) (1982-83), painted in myriad shades of chartreuse, acidic green and ultramarine; an oversized eye hovers toward the left edge of the canvas, like a stretched reflection in a glass. To the right is a swiftly rendered hand holding what could be candles or firecrackers. According to William S. Smith, Daniëls ‘was a master at balancing complexity and ambition with affected naiveté.’ René Daniëls, Het verloren huis teruggevonden (The lost house found), 1982-1983 519 WEST 24TH STREET NEW YORK NY 10011 T 212 206 7100 WWW.METROPICTURES.COM [email protected] Denzil Forrester, From Trench Town to Porthtowan, 2016 ‘Sputterances’, as Daniëls defined them, are evident less in individual works than in the way one reads the exhibition as a whole – in fits and starts.

  • Mechanism of Electrical Conductivity in Metallic Fiber-Based Yarns
AUTEX Research Journal, Vol. 20, No 1, March 2020 DOI: 10.2478/aut-2019-0008 © AUTEX MECHANISM OF ELECTRICAL CONDUCTIVITY IN METALLIC FIBER-BASED YARNS Juan Xie1, Menghe Miao2, Yongtang Jia1 1School of Textile Materials and Engineering, Wuyi University, Jiangmen, Guangdong Province, China 2CSIRO Manufacturing, 75 Pigdons Road, Waurn Ponds, Victoria 3216, Australia [email protected] Abstract: We explore the conductive mechanism of yarns made from metallic fibers and/or traditional textile fibers. It has been proposed for the first time, to our knowledge, that probe span length plays a great role in the conductivity of metallic fiber-based yarns, which is determined by the probability and number of conductive fibers appearing on a cross section and their connecting on two neighboring sections in a yarn’s longitudinal direction. The results demonstrate that yarn conductivity is negatively influenced to a large extent by its length when metallic fibers are blended with other nonconductive materials, which is beyond the scope of conductivity theory for metal conductors. In addition, wicking and wetting performances, which interfere with fiber distribution and conductive paths between fibers, have been shown to have a negative influence on the conductivity of metallic fiber-based yarns with various structures and composed of different fiber materials. Such dependence of the conductivity on the probe span length, as well as on the moisture from air and human body, should get attention during investigation of the conductivity of metallic fiber-based composites in use, especially in cases in which conductive yarns are fabricated into flexible circuit boards, antennas, textile electrodes, and sensors.

  • Studying the Functional Performance Properties of the Fabrics Including
STUDYING THE FUNCTIONAL PERFORMANCE PROPERTIES OF THE FABRICS INCLUDING METALLIC YARN Mohamed Abd El-Gawad Assistant Professor in Spinning, Weaving and Knitting Dept. Faculty of Applied Arts, Helwan University ABSTRACT In the recent years, the using of the metallic yarns has been increased mainly in upholstery and clothing fabrics because it is gives an aesthetic and decorative value in the textiles. But using the metallic yarns by large ratio may cause some undesirable effects and also can influence on the physical and mechanical properties of the produced fabrics. The aim of these researches is to investigate the effect of the presence of the metallic yarns inside the fabrics on the functional performance properties and to put the most suitable standards for using the metallic to produce balanced product has aesthetic form and functional performance properties. In this research each fabric of the produced contains different ratios of metallic yarns, the polyester yarns were chosen to use as a conventional yarns beside the metallic yarns because it is the most commonly used material in the upholstery field. The produced fabrics were finished by heat setting. Then grey and finished fabrics were tested with some mechanical tests determine their functional performance they are produced for. The test results obtained showed that the finished fabrics have scored high rates for tensile strength, elongation, abrasion resistance than grey fabrics. The grey fabrics have scored high rates for tear strength, fabric stiffness. Keywords: Metallic Yarns, Heat Setting, Tensile Strength, Tear Strength, Abrasion Resistance. I. INTRODUCTION In addition to technical considerations, aesthetics is also important in the production of fashionable fabrics.
