In both the model Bacillus subtilis, an aerobic species, and in the intestinal pathogen Clostridioides difficile, an obligate anaerobe, sporulation mobilizes hundreds of genes. -

In this context, the present work describes the bioprospection and identification of deep-sea bacteria that produce cellulases and lipases, as well their optimal temperature of activity. Results: The first step of this study was the screening of cellulolytic and lipolytic deep-sea bacteria from sediment and water column, which was conducted with substrates linked with 4-Methylumbelliferyl. Among the 161 strains evaluated, 40 were cellulolytic, 23 were lipolytic and 5 exhibited both activities. Cellulolytic and lipolytic bacteria are more common in sediment than at the water column. Based on the ability to produce cellulases and lipases three isolates were selected and identified (16S rRNA sequencing) as Bacillus stratosphericus, B. aerophilus and B. pumilus. Lipases of strain B. aerophilus LAMA 582 exhibited activity at a wide temperature range (4º to 37ºC) and include psychrophilic behaviour. Strain Bacillus stratosphericus LAMA 585 can growth in a rich (Luria Bertani) and minimal (Marine Minimal) medium, and does not need an inducer to produce its mesophilic cellulases and lipases. -

Accepted 29 December, 2011 To study the biodiversity of halophilic bacteria in a protected wetland located in Loukkos (Northwest, Morocco), a total of 124 strains were recovered from sediment samples from a marsh and salterns. 120 isolates (98%) were found to be moderately halophilic bacteria; growing in salt ranges of 0.5 to 20%. Of 124 isolates, 102 were Gram-positive while 22 were Gram negative. All isolates were identified based on 16S rRNA gene phylogenetic analysis and characterized phenotypically and by screening for extracellular hydrolytic enzymes. The Gram-positive isolates were dominated by the genus Bacillus (89%) and the others were assigned to Jeotgalibacillus, Planococcus, Staphylococcus and Thalassobacillus. -

A large amount of this aromatic amine was produced by the decar- boxylation of L-phenylalanine in the bacteria and secreted into the culture medium. The production of 2-phenylethylamine may serve for the chemotaxonomy of alkaliphilic Bacillus. Although a series of studies have focused on the safety evaluation of the agroecosystem, the endophytes of transgenic rice are rarely considered. Here, the influence of endophyte populations and communities was investigated and compared for transgenic and nontransgenic rice. Population-level investigation suggested that cry1Ab gene insertion influenced to a varying degree the rice endophytes at the seedling stage, but a significant difference was only observed in leaves of Bt22 (Zhejiang22 transgenic rice) between the GMO and wild-type rice. Community-level analysis using the 16S rRNA gene showed that strains of the phyla Proteobacteria and Firmicutes were the predominant groups occurring in the three transgenic rice plants and their corresponding parents. -

(2021) 8:16 https://doi.org/10.1186/s40643-021-00369-3 REVIEW Open Access Xylanolytic Bacillus species for xylooligosaccharides production: a critical review Rozina Rashid1,2 and Muhammad Sohail1* Abstract The capacity of diferent Bacillus species to produce large amounts of extracellular enzymes and ability to ferment various substrates at a wide range of pH and temperature has placed them among the most promising hosts for the industrial production of many improved and novel products. The global interest in prebiotics, for example, xylooli- gosaccharides (XOs) is ever increasing, rousing the quest for various forms with expanded productivity. This article provides an overview of xylanase producing bacilli, with more emphasis on their capacity to be used in the produc- tion of the XOs, followed by the purifcation strategies, characteristics and application of XOs from bacilli. The large- scale production of XOs is carried out from a number of xylan-rich lignocellulosic materials by chemical or enzymatic hydrolysis followed by purifcation through chromatography, vacuum evaporation, solvent extraction or membrane separation methods. Utilization of XOs in the production of functional products as food ingredients brings well-being to individuals by improving defense system and eliminating pathogens. In addition to the efects related to health, a variety of other biological impacts have also been discussed. From the high 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity (>99.0%) and formation of a robust phylogenetic clade with the closest species, it was determined that each strain belonged to each independent and predefined bacterial species. There is no official report that these 26 species have been described in Korea; therefore 14 strains for the order Flavobacteriales and two strains for the order Cytophagales were assigned to the class Bacteroidetes, and 8 strains for the order Bacillales and 4 strains for the order Lactobacillales were assigned to the class Firmicutes are reported for new bacterial species found in Korea. -

(Orthoptera: Gryllotalpidae)’den izole edilen bakterilerin tanımlanması ve patojenitesi Özet: Gryllotalpa gryllotalpa (Orthoptera: Gryllotalpidae)’nın bakteriyel mikrobiyotası, araştırılmıştır ve G. gryllotalpa’nın nimflerinden 10 farklı bakteriyel aerobik tür izole edilmiştir. G. gryllotalpa en önemli tarım zararlılarından biridir. Bu çalışmada, bakterilerin morfolojik, fizyolojik ve biyokimyasal özelliklerini ve API 20E ve API 50CH panel test sistemleri sayesinde metabolik enzim profillerini belirledik. Ayrıca, izolatların moleküler seviyede belirlenmesi için 16S rRNA geni dizi analizi ve Hiper değişken (HV) analizleri uygulanmıştır. Bakteriyel türler, Bacillus weihenstephanensis (Gg1), Serratia ureilytica (Gg2), Bacillus simplex (Gg3), Bacillus nanhaiensis (Gg5), Bacillus sp. (Gg6), Bacillus gibsonii (Gg7), Citrobacter braakii (Gg8), Paenibacillus sp. (Gg9), Enterobacter sp. (Gg10), and Providencia rettgeri (Gg11) olarak belirlenmiştir. Bütün bakteriyel türler, on gün boyunca 3.6×109 hücre/ml dozda G. gryllotalpa’nın nimflerine karşı test edilmiştir. Bu sonuçlar, özellikle B. weihenstephanensis (Gg1) ve Bacillus nanhaiensis (Gg5) bakterilerinin, G. gryllotalpa’nın mikrobiyal mücadelesinde değerli bir etken olabileceğini göstermiştir.
