P. SHEN Department of Mathematics and Statistics, San Diego State University, San Diego, California (Manuscript received 18 March 2019, in final form 3 January 2020) ABSTRACT Since the mid-2000s, the Argo oceanographic observational network has provided near-real-time four- dimensional data for the global ocean for the first time in history. Internet (i.e., the ‘‘web’’) applications that handle the more than two million Argo profiles of ocean temperature, salinity, and pressure are an active area of development. This paper introduces a new and efficient interactive Argo data visualization and delivery web application named Argovis that is built on a classic three-tier design consisting of a front end, back end, and database. Together these components allow users to navigate 4D data on a world map of Argo floats, with the option to select a custom region, depth range, and time period. Argovis’s back end sends data to users in a simple format, and the front end quickly renders web-quality figures.

  • Why Websites Can Change Without Warning
Why Websites Can Change Without Warning WHY WOULD MY WEBSITE LOOK DIFFERENT WITHOUT NOTICE? HISTORY: Your website is a series of files & databases. Websites used to be “static” because there were only a few ways to view them. Now we have a complex system, and telling your webmaster what device, operating system and browser is crucial, here’s why: TERMINOLOGY: You have a desktop or mobile “device”. Desktop computers and mobile devices have “operating systems” which are software. To see your website, you’ll pull up a “browser” which is also software, to surf the Internet. Your website is a series of files that needs to be 100% compatible with all devices, operating systems and browsers. Your website is built on WordPress and gets a weekly check up (sometimes more often) to see if any changes have occured. Your site could also be attacked with bad files, links, spam, comments and other annoying internet pests! Or other components will suddenly need updating which is nothing out of the ordinary. WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE IF SOMETHING HAS CHANGED? Any update to the following can make your website look differently: There are 85 operating systems (OS) that can update (without warning). And any of the most popular roughly 7 browsers also update regularly which can affect your site visually and other ways. (Lists below) Now, with an OS or browser update, your site’s 18 website components likely will need updating too. Once website updates are implemented, there are currently about 21 mobile devices, and 141 desktop devices that need to be viewed for compatibility.

Solar Activity Effects on Propagation at 15 MHz Received at Anchorage, Alaska USA on 10 September 2017 Whitham D. Reeve 1. Introduction Solar cycle 24 continued its downward trend throughout 2017 but a surge in the Sun’s activity occurred in the autumn. This paper discusses solar flare effects on 15 MHz time signal propagation to my Anchorage observatory on 10 September 2017. I previously reported on a Type II solar radio sweep that occurred on 20 October and was observed at my Cohoe Radio Observatory {Reeve18). Some Type I Note: Internet links and radio noise storms also occurred during the autumn and I will report my references in braces { } observations of them in the near future. All times and dates in this paper are in parentheses ( ) are provided in section 8. Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) unless indicated otherwise. 2. Solar Active Region 2673 Solar active region 2673 was responsible for the effects discussed here. It produced a powerful X8.2 x-ray flare (figure 1) followed by a radio blackout on the propagation path between a 15 MHz time signal station and Anchorage, Alaska. Active regions contain one or more sunspots and are numbered consecutively by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). From mid-2002 on, sunspots numbers are truncated to four digits for reporting convenience, so the region in question is officially AR 12673. This active region alone produced four X-class and twenty-seven M-class flares between 1 and 10 September before it rotated around the Sun’s west limb and out of view of Earth.

  • Kenneth Arnes Ryan Paul Jaca Network Software Applications History
Kenneth Arnes Ryan Paul Jaca Network Software Applications Networks consist of hardware, such as servers, Ethernet cables and wireless routers, and networking software. Networking software differs from software applications in that the software does not perform tasks that end-users can see in the way word processors and spreadsheets do. Instead, networking software operates invisibly in the background, allowing the user to access network resources without the user even knowing the software is operating. History o Computer networks, and the networking software that enabled them, began to appear as early as the 1970s. Early networks consisted of computers connected to each other through telephone modems. As personal computers became more pervasive in homes and in the workplace in the late 1980s and early 1990s, networks to connect them became equally pervasive. Microsoft enabled usable and stable peer-to-peer networking with built-in networking software as early as 1995 in the Windows 95 operating system. Types y Different types of networks require different types of software. Peer-to-peer networks, where computers connect to each other directly, use networking software whose basic function is to enable file sharing and printer sharing. Client-server networks, where multiple end-user computers, the clients, connect to each other indirectly through a central computer, the server, require networking software solutions that have two parts. The server software part, running on the server computer, stores information in a central location that client computers can access and passes information to client software running on the individual computers. Application-server software work much as client-server software does, but allows the end-user client computers to access not just data but also software applications running on the central server.

  • 4 Argo Data Management Meeting Report
4Th Argo Data Management Meeting Report Monterey, California, USA th 5-7 November 2003 4th Argo Data Management Meeting Report 5-7th November 2003 1. Introduction Mike Clancy from Fleet Numerical Meteorological and Oceanographic Centre welcomed the participants to Monterey and to the meeting. He remarked that Argo was an important program to them and as such they were pleased to be hosting the meeting. He wished the meeting success. The agenda for the meeting was reorganized to meet some participants travel schedules. The revised agenda and timetable appears in Annex 1. The list of participants appears in Annex 2. 2. Review of the Actions from previous meeting. At the Ottawa meeting 26 actions were issued and most of them have been completed. The exact status can be found in the Annex 3. The points that were not achieved have been taken up for discussion at this meeting, during discussions on the GDACs (subscription system), on formats (ASCII formats), on delayed mode QC and the GADR (role and CD). New actions, as appropriate, were formulated and are recorded as actions of this meeting. This action list appears in Annex 4. The mechanism for integrating a correction for a significant drift or offset detected by the delayed mode QC process, into the real-time data processing stream has been postponed and needs further consideration by the AST before something is decided at ADMT level. 3. Review of National system development and milestone updates Before the meeting, national reports were received from a number of countries. Oral presentations of these reports were not made.
