aod are a Brighton based theatre company with a vigorous passion to ‘make magic from myth’. We create fresh, bold and urgent interpretations of Classical Greek plays and develop new plays inspired by Greek mythology. We have a strong national and international profile and regularly tour our work. At the heart of our work is collaboration. We have recently embarked on the exciting adventure of working with new young writers and we offer a mentoring programme to emerging directors. This production is an example of the exciting new work we produce when such collaborations take place. We are passionate about providing opportunities for practitioners to develop their craft. We actively invest in and support promising individuals as they begin to develop their careers as theatre artists. An important aspect of our work is introducing young people to the Classics – particularly those who have never had any Classical education. Through our 25 years we have built up a wealth of experience and knowledge of both Classical Greek theatre and Greek myths. Our team of education experts have created a unique educational and outreach programme. This encompasses a wide range of workshops which we deliver to schools and colleges across Britain. Our workshops are unique, engaging and practical, allowing students to delve deeper into their work. We are able to tailor workshops to the needs of a particular class or to examination requirements. We are currently offering a special discount to school and college groups who have been to see Antigone. Please contact our Education Officer Mark Katz at [email protected] or 07903 390 087 and use the word ‘Antigone’ to be offered a discount.

  • Estella Programme 9Page.Indd
ADAPTED AND DIRECTED BY KATE MCGREGOR PRODUCED BY THEATRE6 AND TALES RETOLD HHHHH “Brave, brilliant and unmissable” The Times (The Scottsboro Boys) HHHHH “Captivating” Windsor Express (Persuasion) DIRECTOR’S NOTES I’ve loved Dickens’ ‘Great Expectations’ for many years and always found myself entranced and intrigued by Miss Havisham and her adopted daughter Estella. Estella is often described as a mystery to those around her - cold, lonely and unfeeling. However, when you consider her childhood and immediate role models, it’s no wonder she has struggled to establish her own identity. Throughout the novel, Estella is kept away from the truth of her life by Pip, Jaggers and Miss Havisham and this just didn’t seem fair to me. Therefore, I wanted to write a version that put the women of ‘Great Expectations’ unapologetically front and centre. 'Estella' is about giving Estella, Molly and Miss Havisham their time in the spotlight and in doing so, releasing them from the fate of being forever underwritten and universally misunderstood. At Theatre6 we work predominantly with live actor- musicianship and this approach has been the perfect vehicle to help unlock Estella’s secrets and lay her truth bare. It’s been really exciting to fill in the gaps of Estella’s life and give her new agency. We hope that this adaptation celebrates the fascinating narratives of so many women in Victorian literature and establishes a new legacy for classic popular fiction. KATE MCGREGOR - DIRECTOR CAST Afia Abusham - Estella Afia Abusham completed her Acting training at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York City.

  • Written Evidence Submitted by the Society of Ticket Agents and Retailers (STAR)
Written evidence submitted by the Society of Ticket Agents and Retailers (STAR) Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee Inquiry into the Impact of Covid-19 on DCMS Sectors 1. ABOUT STAR 1.1. STAR, the Society of Ticket Agents and Retailers, is the self-regulatory body for the ticket industry formed in 1997 by companies and organisations within the ticketing industry. Its membership encompasses ticket agents, ticketing system suppliers, arenas, sports bodies, promoters, producers, music venues, most West End theatres and many other theatres and venues in London and across the UK. STAR members subscribe to a Code of Practice covering standards of service and information and we estimate that our ticket agent members represent over 90% of that sector. STAR works to help resolve disputes between its members and ticket buyers and is approved by Government under the Alternative Dispute Resolution for Consumer Disputes (Competent Authorities and Information) Regulations 2015. (See list of members below) 2. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY 2.1. Ticketing is a key element of the delicate eco-system that supports the tremendous UK live entertainment and events industries as well as other significant sectors in the remit of the DCMS which have been devastated as a consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic. 2.2. Ticket agents represent a significant proportion of ticket sales for UK events and are an important factor in the success of marketing shows and achieving successful ticket sales. They also play a significant role in helping build new audiences, creating innovation, developing technical resources, finding new distribution channels, marketing and advertising events to both domestic and overseas markets.
