  • PRESS STATEMENT 13 November 2019 MTR Unable to Provide
PRESS STATEMENT 13 November 2019 MTR Unable to Provide Normal Services Due to Repeated Vandalism by Rioters The MTR network and facilities have been repeatedly vandalised over the past several days. A total of seven rail lines were affected today (13 November 2019) and train service on some of the lines had to be fully or partially suspended. Furthermore, seven stations were forced to close as station facilities were maliciously damaged or operations were disrupted. A large number of commuters all over Hong Kong was adversely affected because of these incidents. The MTR Corporation strongly condemns the rioters’ acts which endangered the safety of passengers, MTR staff and railway operations. The Corporation has reported the cases to the Police and reserves the right to take legal action against the parties concerned. After the end of service hours yesterday, rioters broke into several closed stations to set fires and vandalise trains, stations and trackside equipment. On the East Rail Line, there were arson attacks that targeted two trains stabled at Sheung Shui Station and a train stabled at University Station. Another train stabled at Mong Kok East Station was also damaged. In addition, a track-side signaling equipment room near Fo Tan was attacked. Considering these stations had already been damaged during the day yesterday, the Corporation had no choice but to suspend the train service of the East Rail Line from the start of traffic hours today. Following recovery efforts by engineering personnel, train service between Hung Hom and Tai Wai stations resumed at around 5pm with trains by-passing Kowloon Tong Station.

  • (“EOI”) for Operating the Rehabus Feeder Services
Invitation for Expression of Interest (“EOI”) for Operating the Rehabus Feeder Services In 2018, the Transport Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government (“TD”) invited interested parties (Proponents) to operate the Rehabus Feeder Services with effect from 1 June 2019 for a time period of three years. After years of operation, it is proven that to engage another Rehabus operator to provide Rehabus service can improve the operational efficiency in general. As the service period of the existing Rehabus operator will soon be expired, TD invites Proponents to operate the Rehabus Feeder Services and it is expected that the operator will start to commence the services from 1 June 2022 for a period of 5 years. TD may extend the operating period of the Rehabus Feeder Services for a further period or periods not exceeding 5 years at any one time, so that the operating period granted together with all extensions thereof shall not in any case exceed a period of 10 years in aggregate. • The Fifth Sunday Closure Between Mong Kok East and Hung Hom
PR039/21 31 May 2021 The Fifth Sunday Closure between Mong Kok East and Hung Hom Stations on the East Rail Line Scheduled for 13 June Additional Free Shuttle Buses for an Event in the Hong Kong Coliseum To facilitate critical bifurcation works for the cross-harbour section of the East Rail Line (EAL), the fifth Sunday closure of the section between Mong Kok East and Hung Hom stations on the EAL, has been scheduled for 13 June 2021 (Sunday). Passengers are recommended to plan their journeys in advance, take alternative MTR routes or transportation. In view of a concert to be held at the Hong Kong Coliseum (“HKC”) that evening, MTR Corporation will arrange additional free shuttle buses between Hung Hom and Kowloon Tong stations for passengers to interchange to the MTR. The Corporation appreciates passengers’ cooperation during the closures. We encourage passengers to plan their journeys and access alternative route information on MTR Mobile in advance. For the service suspension on Sunday, the Corporation will provide free shuttle buses to run between Hung Hom and Kowloon Tong stations. Passengers are reminded that as the capacity of shuttle buses is limited and the operational efficiency may be affected due to unpredictable road traffic conditions, the journey time could be longer than the time under normal circumstances. People attending the event at HKC that night, are advised to take the West Rail Line to and from Hung Hom Station and interchange to other MTR lines. Meanwhile, the Corporation will run additional free shuttle buses and arrange standby buses starting from 11pm to facilitate passengers who are heading to Kowloon Tong Station to take EAL or Kwun Tong Line after the event.
