Improving play with better zzz HEAD COACH REX RYAN BRINGS IN SLEEP SPECIALIST TO HELP INCREASE PRODUCTIVITY – NFL NEWS

After a dismal performance in Week 2 against , New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan thought of taking a different approach to yield the maximum output from his team.

For that purpose he has taken help of some sleep specialists during this week. The guys gave some presentations to the players about how to make sleep a way to re-energise themselves.

A lecture was held before the practice session on Friday, September 21, 2012. There were some significant changes in the Jets regular team timetable.

The most prominent one was the starting time of the training session, which was pushed back by 90 minutes.

Apart from that, the team also got some handouts earlier this week which stressed upon the relation between sleep and performance. Talking about the introduction of sleep specialist to the roster, Ryan said:

"We've had sleep people come in, talking about how important sleep is, how important it is to get eight hours of it. We bring in these specialists for a reason. If we can gain a little advantage, then we're going to look for it."

Jets certainly need some boost after a 27-10 thrashing by Steelers. They will be on road come Sunday, as they face in Week 3 game.

Jets’ players have given a positive reaction to the team’s decision to shorten the time of team meetings and practice sessions. Defensive lineman Mike Devito said:

"It was awesome. You still get the same amount of work in, but you get to sleep in a little bit more and get off your feet a little more. It was a smart thing, a really smart thing to do. Practice was higher tempo this week and guys are ready to go."

Ryan is famous for utilising different types of methods for increasing efficiency of players as well as coaching staff.

During the offseason, Jets coaches as well as players took some time off to attend lectures by motivational speakers.
