Online Communication and
Social Networking

Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to use our interactive website and tools; however, all must be utilized within the context of educational usage. Staff-created blogs or other online content must also only occur within the context of educational usage. Users must follow the District Network and Internet policy as well as proper etiquette, including but not limited to, using proper language with no vulgarity and no cyber bullying or spreading falsehoods about another that lowers the affected individual in the eyes of the community. Teacher/parent/ student interactions online must only occur within the context of educational usage.

Overview of Board of Education Policies

The Board of Education Policy Book is the primary governance document for the goals and operations of the Southampton Public Schools. Board of Education policies

are written and approved in accordance with State Education Law, but also reflect the culture and values of the local school community as determined by duly elected trustees following public readings and opportunities for input.

The complete Board of Education Policy Handbook is accessible in printed form for public inspection in the district office and in electronic form on the school district

website (southamptonschools.org > BOE tab > Policy Book). We encourage you to peruse the entire policy handbook, but we realize that some policies generate more interest or have more implications than others. We are, therefore, listing here selected key policies that

generate the most interest and questions (please reference the actual policy for full details):

For the protection of both students and staff, the district strongly advises that staff do not “friend” students on public networks, since lines of personal and professional boundaries are not as clear in social networking sites. Friending students on private or school-based networks for educational purposes is acceptable within the context of educational usage.

    Section 4. County Profile

Section 4: County Profile Section 4. County Profile Profile information is presented and analyzed to develop an understanding of a study area, including the economic, structural, and population assets at risk and the particular concerns that may be present related to hazards analyzed later in this plan (e.g., significant coastal areas or low lying areas prone to flooding or a high percentage of vulnerable persons in an area). This profile describes the general information of the County (government, physical setting, population and demographics, general building stock, and land use and population trends) and critical facilities located within Suffolk County. 4.1 General Information Suffolk County was established on November 1, 1683, as one of the ten original counties in New York State. Suffolk County was named after the county of Suffolk in England, from where many of its earliest settlers originated (Suffolk County Department of Planning, 2005). Suffolk County’s western border is approximately 15 miles from the eastern border of New York City. According to the U.S. Census data, the Suffolk County estimated population in 2012 was 1,499,273. Suffolk County is one of the 57 counties in New York State and is comprised of 10 towns and 31 incorporated villages. Within each town and village, there are incorporated and unincorporated areas (Suffolk County Department of Planning, 2007). The population of Suffolk County is larger than ten states and ranks as the 24th most populated county in the country (U.S. Census Bureau, 2012). Suffolk County is bordered by Nassau County to the west and major water bodies to the north, south, and east.

Revitalization of the AM Radio Service ) ) ) )

Before the FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION Washington, DC In the matter of: ) ) Revitalization of the AM Radio Service ) MB Docket 13-249 ) ) COMMENTS OF REC NETWORKS One of the primary goals of REC Networks (“REC”)1 is to assure a citizen’s access to the airwaves. Over the years, we have supported various aspects of non-commercial micro- broadcast efforts including Low Power FM (LPFM), proposals for a Low Power AM radio service as well as other creative concepts to use spectrum for one way communications. REC feels that as many organizations as possible should be able to enjoy spreading their message to their local community. It is our desire to see a diverse selection of voices on the dial spanning race, culture, language, sexual orientation and gender identity. This includes a mix of faith-based and secular voices. While REC lacks the technical knowledge to form an opinion on various aspects of AM broadcast engineering such as the “ratchet rule”, daytime and nighttime coverage standards and antenna efficiency, we will comment on various issues which are in the realm of citizen’s access to the airwaves and in the interests of listeners to AM broadcast band stations. REC supports a limited offering of translators to certain AM stations REC feels that there is a segment of “stand-alone” AM broadcast owners. These owners normally fall under the category of minority, women or GLBT/T2. These owners are likely to own a single AM station or a small group of AM stations and are most likely to only own stations with inferior nighttime service, such as Class-D stations.
