In the event that remote instruction will not be possible, an emergency closing may take place. If fewer than three emergency closings take place, there will be no school on Friday, May 27, 2022, and SES will hold Spring Parent/Teacher conferences on April 1, 2022. If more than three emergency closings occur, days will be made up as needed in the following order: April 22, 2022; April 21, 2022; April 20, 2022. Online Communication and Social Networking Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to use our interactive website and tools; however, all must be utilized within the context of educational usage. Staff-created blogs or other online content must also only occur within the context of educational usage. Users must follow the District Network and Internet policy as well as proper etiquette, including but not limited to, using proper language with no vulgarity and no cyber bullying or spreading falsehoods about another that lowers the affected individual in the eyes of the community. Teacher/parent/ student interactions online must only occur within the context of educational usage. Overview of Board of Education Policies The Board of Education Policy Book is the primary governance document for the goals and operations of the Southampton Public Schools. Board of Education policies are written and approved in accordance with State Education Law, but also reflect the culture and values of the local school community as determined by duly elected trustees following public readings and opportunities for input. The complete Board of Education Policy Handbook is accessible in printed form for public inspection in the district office and in electronic form on the school district website (southamptonschools.org > BOE tab > Policy Book). We encourage you to peruse the entire policy handbook, but we realize that some policies generate more interest or have more implications than others. We are, therefore, listing here selected key policies that generate the most interest and questions (please reference the actual policy for full details): For the protection of both students and staff, the district strongly advises that staff do not “friend” students on public networks, since lines of personal and professional boundaries are not as clear in social networking sites. Friending students on private or school-based networks for educational purposes is acceptable within the context of educational usage. 1. Mission Statement and Vision (#0000) – Includes District Core Beliefs; Tied to Goals (#0200). 2. Print & Electronic Communications (#1110) – Lists Official Means of Communications Used by School Administrators & Staff vs. School-Related Sites Operated by Community Organizations & Individuals. 3. Public Use of School Facilities (#1500) – Eligibility & Conditions for Using Indoor/Outdoor Facilities. 4. Home-Schooled Students (#1741) – Requirements and Procedures for Educating Students at Home. Southampton School District employees must disclose employment status when posting/ submitting a comment or question through the Official School District Publications (Ref. Policy #1101). Even if you are responding while at home, working for the district is a material fact that may influence content and that community members have a right to know about. To maintain the integrity of our Facebook Community Page, the district reserves the right to remove any comment if we feel the nature of your comment is confidential, shares information not generally available or recommends an action that could adversely affect our students or staff. 5. Board of Education Meetings (#2310>2352) – How BOE Meetings Are Developed, Posted, Conducted. 6. Organizational Chart (#3230) – Chain of Command – BOE, Administration and Staff by Department. 7. Special Education (#4321.0>.11) – Complete Description of Laws, Rights, Procedures, and Programs for Special Education; Policy Sections also Address Other Support Services for Various Students. 8. Computer Network & Internet Use (#4526) – Purpose & Restrictions, Including Prohibition of Cyber-Bullying, Harassment & Inappropriate Postings – Staff, Students, and Parents Must Sign Acknowledgement, Understanding and Acceptance of School District Guidelines. Grading and Class Rank (#a4741) – Explains Graduation Requirements, Including Courses and Exams; Required Seat-Time, Participation, Science Laboratory Requirements; Guidelines for Tutoring; Treatment of Southampton vs. External (Transfer, Online, College) Credits; Determination of Graduation and Other Honors, etc. Code of Conduct An age-appropriate version of the Code of Conduct is presented to all students at the beginning of each school year. A plain language summary of the Code of Conduct is mailed to all families prior to the beginning of each school year and is available upon request. The full Code of Conduct is posted on the District’s website and available in the main office of each school building. Questions regarding the Code of Conduct should be directed to the building principal. Disposal of District Property 10. Required Attendance (#5100) – Students Must Attend 85% of Classes for Credit or Promotion. The Attendance Policy. 11. Code of Conduct (#5300) – Under Continuing Development to Complement the District’s Social-Emotional Curriculum, the Code of Conduct Outlines Consequences for Failure to Comply with Academic or Behavioral Standards. Consequences Vary Based on Age, Frequency, and Severity. Each year, a determination shall be made of which equipment, supplies and/or materials are obsolete and cannot be salvaged or utilized effectively or economically by the school district. Such equipment, supplies, or materials shall be sold through bid procedures on Auctions International. All notices of sales will be posted on the school’s website and are available to the general public to bid on @ auctionsinternational.com. 12.
