They are sired by Monumental and out of Unrated 41-5, who is a littermate to Crissman’s Reserve Cross Barrow at Fort Worth in 2012. 41-5 is out of a beautiful Alleluia sow. The sow power in this mating is unmatched at MLL. This is easily the best litter of boars we have ever produced. We retained three littermates and a fourth stands at SGI. I would like to thank Nick Berry, Tye Lettow and the whole SGI crew for their confidence in this litter. All four boars offer different strengths. The Dealer is a great balanced, upheaded and loose spined individual. He is also incredibly long hipped, smooth in his ham-loin junction and has the kind of muscle I like in a negative. This big boned boar has great toe spread, takes a huge stride off both ends and can go with comfort all day long. Some early visitors have commented on how good of a barrow this guy could have been. Everyone has ranked these differently, but this one has us looking forward to the next pig crop. He offers the same upheaded look as the The Dealer, but has an extra shot of muscle in his top and especially when viewed from behind. We had this guy pegged as a carrier growing up and were surprised he came back negative, offering us more mating options. This whole litter has matured well, and at the right time to be futuristic barrow sires. All of these boars have a near perfect frame size to go along with, what we feel, are ideal skull shape and ear set to produce barrows that hang banners. He is similar in terms of width, bone and foot size as his brothers. This guy is extremely big in his center and pliable in his structure. Soft Hand isn’t as shapely, but still offers a broad top with a lot of volume of muscle through his hip and stifle. Where I feel this guy is truly unique is combination of look up front with the amount of true center he brings to the table. Usually those real deep bodied hogs sacrifice look, this one doesn’t. PAGE 5 MILE HIGH X CROSSBONES X CHECKMATE (YORK) Extra Mile Crossbred Stress Negative :: $200 per dose NEW BOAR REPORT >> Extra Mile is sired by Mile High, who is a littermate to the Denver Champion in 2012 and a full sib to Analyze This and Closet Monster. We chose him as the Super Monster derivative to inject into our program and he didn’t disappoint. Extra Mile is out of a super, first litter Crossbones x Checkmate gilt 66-9. Her and her 5 littermates will be foundation sows here for a long time and will be vital components for us moving forward. This guy was an absolute rock star at 8 weeks of age and matured well. This tall fronted, upheaded boar excels in comfort and flexibility on the move. He is a huge footed and heavy boned hog that balances perfectly from the profile. His phenotypic attributes along with his outcross pedigree to many of our boars will allow us to fix many of the issues in this industry today. (The festival's original title was Festival of Fantastic Cinema.) The more mainstream section (called Gran Angular ) showed 12 films only as opposed to the large offering of 27 films in the Fantastic section, evidence that this genre still predominates even though it is no longer exclusive. Japan made a big showing this year in both categories. Two feature-length animated films caught the attention of Sara Martin , an English literature teacher at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and anime fan, who reports here on the latest offerings by two of Japan's most outstanding anime film makers, and gives us both a wee history and future glimpse of the anime genre - it's sure not kids' stuff and it's not always pretty. Japanese animated feature films are known as anime. This should not be confused with manga , the name given to the popular printed comics on which anime films are often based. Western spectators raised in a culture that identifies animation with cartoon films and TV series made predominately for children, may be surprised to learn that animation enjoys a far higher regard in Japan.

    2. CASE STUDY: ANIME MUSIC VIDEOS Dana Milstein When on 1 August 1981 at 12:01 a.m. the Buggles’ ‘Video Killed the Radio Star’ aired as MTV’s first music video, its lyrics parodied the very media pre- senting it: ‘We can’t rewind, we’ve gone too far, . put the blame on VTR.’ Influenced by J. G. Ballard’s 1960 short story ‘The Sound Sweep’, Trevor Horn’s song voiced anxiety over the dystopian, artificial world developing as a result of modern technology. Ballard’s story described a world in which natu- rally audible sound, particularly song, is considered to be noise pollution; a sound sweep removes this acoustic noise on a daily basis while radios broad- cast a silent, rescored version of music using a richer, ultrasonic orchestra that subconsciously produces positive feelings in its listeners. Ballard was particu- larly criticising technology’s attempt to manipulate the human voice, by con- tending that the voice as a natural musical instrument can only be generated by ‘non-mechanical means which the neruophonic engineer could never hope, or bother, to duplicate’ (Ballard 2006: 150). Similarly, Horn professed anxiety over a world in which VTRs (video tape recorders) replace real-time radio music with simulacra of those performances. VTRs allowed networks to replay shows, to cater to different time zones, and to rerecord over material. Indeed, the first VTR broadcast occurred on 25 October 1956, when a recording of guest singer Dorothy Collins made the previous night was broadcast ‘live’ on the Jonathan Winters Show. The business of keeping audiences hooked 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, promoted the concept of quantity over quality: yes- terday’s information was irrelevant and could be permanently erased after serving its money-making purpose.

Fue, cuando como espías cibergálacticos, incursionamos (los tres) a engañar a las maestras de la seducción virtual. ¡Qué fácil era embaucar con datos falsos las ilusiones de las destructoras de familias! Parece ser, son las mujeres de entre 40 y 50 años de viejas, las que se registran para jugar a los detestables clicks en los “gatos” (o chats) y las redes sociales (no lo sé, me imagino una red pesquera y alrededor cientos de individuos, en un mismo bote, todos hablándole a la mar) y pretenden, quizá, escapar de sus maridos, sus hijos u otro contacto ‘romántico’. No le hallo la gracia… De adolescente me pasaba un largo rato en Internet; indagaba cómo burlar los datos, aunque no son conocimientos de un hacker, es más básico. Pensándolo bien, no logro comprender el dolor de ella, ante semejantes artimañas de él, y tampoco de él, el querer abandonarnos por signos efímeros y ¿reales? Josephy-Hernández [email protected] Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica Abstract Perfect Blue (1997) is an anime (Japanese animation) film directed by Kon Satoshi. The film revolves around a female idol (a pop star) named Mima who quits her career as an idol to become an actress, and how she gradually loses her mind. This article presents anime as an important pop culture phenomenon with a massive influence world- wide. This article examines the gender stereotypes promulgated by this phenomenon and proposes a different reading of the work of Kon by comparing how the gender roles are portrayed in the different versions: The Japanese original and its yakuwarigo or “scripted speech” (Kinsui and Yamakido 2015) and the US English subtitles and dubbing. Methodologically, the analysis relies on close observation of the use of the Japanese first and second person pronouns and sentence-final particles in the charac- ters’ language, since “the use of these features is known to be highly gender-dependent” (Hiramoto 2013: 55).
