Gansey is the de-facto leader of the group, a boy who has made it his quest to find King Glendower, whom he believes saved him seven years before from a nearly fatal bee sting. As he continues on his mission, others have joined him: Blue and her psychic family; Ronan with his ability to remove things from his own dreams; Adam, who has sacrificed his free will to The Raven King Noah, who, sacrificed by his Latin professor, remains alive only through the power of magical ley lines; Blue, who can The Raven King psychic and supernatural forces. In The Raven Kingthe kids have found themselves on the last leg of the hunt for Glendower. The world seems to be crumbling around them, as dreams and nightmares converge and their quest becomes increasingly complex. Gansey, knowing that he will die if he doesn't find Glendower, also feels obligated to solve some of the other, significant problems that are plaguing the group. The most prominent of these problems is the discovery of black ooze emerging from a tree in Cabeswater. Increasingly, black goo appears until the group is forced The Raven King accept the fact that Cabeswater is under attack, and their beloved, timeless forest is dying. Cabeswater dying poses a problem for all the characters in some ways, but for some characters much more significantly. Adam has given his free will to The Raven King, essentially sacrificing himself to fix the powerful ley lines and maintain the forest's power. With the forest dying, Adam is also under attack, slowly losing parts of himself and his ability to survive. A number of romances also blossom during the final book, many The Raven King which were in the works in earlier volumes. The first is the relationship between Blue and Gansey. Blue has always known The Raven King loves Gansey but The Raven King also had a strong sense that someday she would cause his death. Struggling with the knowledge of his own death, too, Gansey refuses to open himself up to a relationship for fear of it distracting him from his quest. Nevertheless, during this book, Gansey is forced to accept a truth he has always known: he loves Blue and wants to pursue a relationship with her. Ronan and Adam are also in a relationship in this book. The two of them struggle with their romance, especially as Adam fights the infestation in Cabeswater, and Ronan tries to control his powerful dreams. They offer each other support and compassion, strengthening each other through this hard time. Ultimately, the crux of the book is the discovery of the sleeping King Glendower; fighting a demon called the third sleeper who has the power to unmake the world; and finding a cure for Cabeswater. However, the characters suffer for their bravery, and the quest comes at a great cost. Maggie Stiefvater was born Heidi Hummel in Virginia in She has also edited and contributed to a number of young adult anthologies dealing with supernatural beings and written a few standalone novels. I was so nervous going into this because my expectations were sky-high, but it is everything I could've dreamed it to be and more. I felt like my heart was cracking throughout this whole experience. Depending on where you began the story, it was about Gansey and the revelation that he knows that this might be his last year to find the King and complete his ongoing quest The Raven King and for all. The Raven King is set a week after the events of the last book, Maura The Raven King back home with Artemus, who knows more than he is saying and is acting rather peculiar- especially when Gwenllian is around. And Blue and her The Raven King boys are still on their quest to find the King. The uncertainty over everything kept me on the edge for the entire story. It felt like the end of everything. I was hooked as soon as I read the first sentence. But I laughed, I cried, I mourned. What more could I ask of Stiefvater, a master storyteller? She creates these atmospheric, impressionistic scenes with this quiet but impeccable style. Do you have work? My new goal is for him to say the exact same things to me. These books have become my home and I cannot believe it took me so long to discover. I love it in a way that nearly overwhelms me with gratitude I also loved that this book focused on the romance among many other happeningsand it was slow, uncertain and exquisitely written. It was wickedly unfair because there was nothing else that would have stopped Ronan from walking away. It was true that the memory of the ritual was heavy enough. She loved these stories, too, especially the The Raven King about her. On the inside, the Lynch brothers were remarkably similar: They all loved cars, themselves, and each other. He allowed Ronan to lean in to compare his eyes — close enough that Ronan felt his breath on his cheek — and he allowed Ronan to study the palm of his hand. The latter was not strictly necessary, and they both knew it, but Adam watched Ronan closely as he lightly traced the lines there. It had not been that long since the court case against his father. She was warm, alive, vibrant beneath The Raven King thin cotton; he was warm, alive, vibrant beneath his. Blue slid her hand over his bare shoulder and then on to his chest, her palm spread out flat on his breastbone, her fingers pressed curiously into his skin.

    MESTO a DEJINY János Perényi, Master of the Treasury and his Relationship with the Upper-Hungarian Cities (1438–1458) Ádám Novák vol. 5, 2016, 1, pp. 76-88 In this paper the author focuses on the career of János Perényi (†1458), Master of the Treasury and his peculiarly long activity as Master of the Treasury which lasted for nearly twenty years. This paper aims to draw a sketch of the activities of Perényi as Treasurer and to examine his relationship with the Upper-Hungarian cities in the years 1438 – 1458. The thesis is based on the materials kept in the archives of the Upper-Hungarian cities. Most of the documents issued by the Treasurer were missile letters addressed to the cities under his jurisdiction, and privilege letters which included the decisions of the Court of the Master of the Treasurer. We can sporadically find receipts, which prove the acceptance of the sums paid to the Treasurer. However, we cannot draw a full picture without examining the letters of cities, rulers, major officeholders or such noticeable characters as Governor János Hunyadi and Jan Jiskra, mercenary captain and ispán (‘sheriff’) of County Sáros (Šariš). An Overview of the Doctrine of the Holy Crown of Hungary Gábor Hollósi On the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of the United States returning to Hungary her symbol of enduring constitutionality, the story of the Holy Crown is once again front and center. Our use of the word “symbol” already in the very first sentence is intentional, for in addition to the “visible” manifestation of the crown, an “invisible” aspect surrounds it as well.1 The invisible crown represents a set of ideas that is embodied in our Holy Crown. Throughout the history of our constitution, the most important of these is the so-called Doctrine of the Holy Crown, which is what we focus on below. How do the Concept of the Holy Crown and the Doctrine of the Holy Crown differ? Although the literature often uses the terms interchangeably, we believe that separately defining them is more appropriate.2 The Con- cept of the Holy Crown covers the symbolism of the crown (for now let us set aside the point from which we may consider the Hungarian crown as holy). For example in King St. Stephen’s (1001–1038) Ad- monitions to his son Prince Emeric, the crown appears as both earthly royal authority and as the symbol of heavenly and eternal power.3 Later, the Holy Crown itself came to symbolize the territory of the state; we often come across the phrase: “Lands of the Holy Crown”. These are, of course, only examples.

    The Choirs of St Vitus’s Cathedral in Prague: A Marriage of Liturgy, Coronation, Royal Necropolis and Piety PETR ULIČNÝ St Vitus’ s Cathedral, founded in 1344, is a prime example of 14th-century cathedral Gothic, a product of the cooperation between the ingenious architect Peter Parler and his patron, Emperor Charles IV. The unusual layout consisted of a pair of choirs set side by side in the eastern section of the cathedral, an arrangement inspired by the earlier Romanesque double-choir basilica. One was dedicated to St Vitus and was used by the canons, the other to the Virgin Mary and operated by the mansionars. The royal and imperial necropolis was placed in the latter of the two choirs, with Charles IV’s tomb-chest protected by a sculptured canopy and surrounded by the cenotaphs of deceased family members and later kings and queens. The form of two choirs is probably the result of an extensive rearrangement of the earlier project com- pleted in the 1350s, when initial plans to locate the royal burial ground in the canons’ choir were abandoned. The main choir contained a tabernacle of remarkable design, dating from c. 1365. N. 1458 is a variant of the dispatch, known as the “Landus report” in the Hungarian historiography. This report narrates the history of Hungary from the death of Louis the Great up to the peace between Matthias Corvinus and Frederick III in 1463. However, the codex of the Trivulziana Library also contains a new closing section, which narrates the events following the death of Matthias. In this paper, I examine two ques- tions: (a) was this closing section written by the same person as the so-called Landus report?; (b) does this closing section provide us new pieces of information concerning the history of Hungary? In addition to this, I give a general account of the content of the dispatch and review its editions and its manuscript tradition. Moreover, I outline its reception in the Hungarian historiography. Finally, in the Appendix I give the transcription of the closing section of the manuscript as well as another unpublished part of the manuscript, although the examination of this will be the subject of further studies. XXX, PL ISSN 0860-0007 DOI: 10.23858/FAH30.2017.010 Tomaž Nabergoj* THE SLOVENIAN TERRITORY AS A BORDERLAND IN THE MIDDLE AGES Abstract: The geographic location between the adriatic Sea, the alps, the Pannonian Plain and the balkan Peninsula has made the territory of present-day Slovenia an important transitional area from prehistory onwards. This especially concerns a route between the apennine Peninsula, and central and eastern or south-eastern europe. This strategically important borderland has been at the crossroads of cultures, peoples, nations and languages. It witnessed incursions of the goths, Huns and Langobards to Italy, collisions of Frankish, avar and byzantine interests, the settling of the Slavs and Hungarian raids to Italy. The german Kingdom, later Holy roman empire, established a defence system of border prov- inces at its south-eastern corner where feudal families, dynasts and kingdoms such as Přemysl otakar II, the Habsburgs and the Counts of Cilli fought for territory, influence and access to the northern adriatic area controlled by the Venetians. In the 15th and 16th centuries, the area was continuously attacked by the ottomans. The article outlines some of these events and presents a selection of the extant pieces of arms and armour, of equestrian and horse gear that are kept in Slovenian museums, as well as some archaeological sites important for the problem.
