PORTS AND YACHTING DIRECTORATE LOCAL NOTICE TO MARINERS No 105 of 2019 Our Ref: TM/PYD/132/89 19 August 2019 Filming outside Marsamxett Harbour and inside the Grand harbour, Valletta - The story of my wife The Ports and Yachting Directorate, Transport Malta notifies mariners and operators of vessels, that filming activities will take place outside Marsamxett Harbour at point A (as indicated on attached chart) and at Boiler Wharf inside the Grand Harbour, Valletta. The filming will take place on Friday 23 rd August 2019 and Saturday 24 th August 2019. The filming involves the use of the vessel UTEC Surveyor as a prop and she will be towed by the tug boats Sea Wolf and Sea Jaguar whenever it has to be moved. Friday 23 rd August 2019: 0600 hours UTEC Surveyor will be towed from Cassar Shipyard to be moored at Boiler Wharf. 0900 hours UTEC Surveyor towed from Boiler Wharf to outside Marsamxett Harbour where filming onboard the vessel will commence. In the afternoon the UTEC Surveyor will be towed again to Boiler Wharf where filming will take place from arrival to midnight. Saturday 24 th August 2019: 0900 hours UTEC Surveyor towed from Boiler Wharf to outside Marsamxett Harbour where filming onboard the vessel will commence. In the afternoon the UTEC Surveyor will be towed again to Boiler Wharf where filming will take place from arrival to midnight. Monday 26 th August 2019: In the afternoon the UTEC Surveyor will be towed back to Cassar Shipyard. Mariners are to note the above and give a wide berth while the UTEC Surveyor is being towed and while it is anchored at point A (as indicated on attached chart). -

Malta and Gozo - Experiences of a study tour from 14th to 21st September 2019 Text and Photos: Hans-Rudolf Neumann Saturday, 14th September 2019 The morning flight from Berlin via Frankfurt Main to Malta with Lufthansa ran without any incidents. But check-in service in Berlin leaves a lot to be desired; the transition to digital full automation to reduce staff provoked the oppo- site effect. Luggage check-in and boarding on two different ends of the airport caused anno- yance, while during boarding two flights were serviced on the same counter. Source: ABC News. “I’m happy, and I’m sad for the people who have gone already … we had a minute’s silence for them … but it’s been very tiring fighting for this for three years,” said Maxine Kunde, the leader Mgr Charles Gauci - Bishop of Darwin of a group of 42 survivors that took civil action against the church and Commonwealth in the Northern Territory Supreme Court. At age six, Ms Kunde, along with her brothers and sisters, was forcibly taken from her mother under the then-federal government’s policy of removing children of mixed descent from their parents. Garden Point survivors, many of whom travelled to Darwin from all over Australia, agreed yesterday to settle the case, and Maxine Kunde (ABC News/Tiffany Parker) received an informal apology from representatives of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart and the Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, in a private session.Ms Kunde said members of the group were looking forward to getting a formal public apology which they had been told would be delivered in a few weeks’ time. Darwin Bishop Charles Gauci said on behalf of the diocese he apologised to those who were abused at Garden Point. -

8 July 2021 | 1100 hrs | 120/2021 Micro, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) accounted for 69.3% of the combined Personnel Costs and Gross Operating Surplus (GOS) generated by the non-financial business economy in 2019, compared to a share of 68.3% in 2018. Structural Business Statistics: 2019 Cut-off date: In 2019, the non-financial business economy in Malta incorporating Industry, Construction, Wholesale and retail 30 June 2021 trade and Services activities generated €3,882.1 million in GOS (or profits) and paid out €3,328.1 million in Personnel costs to its employees. SMEs registered an increase in these two variables of 13.0 and 10.3 per cent respectively, when compared to 2018. Large enterprises earned €1,218.3 million in GOS and when compared to the other three size categories of SMEs independently, they contributed to the highest values of Turnover, Production and Personnel costs. The largest share (31.4 per cent) of Persons employed in Malta were employed with micro enterprises (Table 2). Chart 1. Turnover and GOS generated by large enterprises increased by 7.7 per cent and 8.3 per cent respectively. -

The Three Cities
18 – The Three Cities The Three Cities are Vittoriosa/Birgu, Cospicua/Bormla and Senglea/L’Isla. Most of the Three Cities was badly bombed, much of its three parts destroyed, during the Second World War. Some inkling of what the area went through is contained in Chapter 15. Much earlier, it had been bombarded during the Great Siege of 1565, as described in Chapter 5, which also tells how Birgu grew from a village to the vibrant city of the Order of the Knights of St John following their arrival in 1530. You cannot travel to the other side of the Grand Harbour without bearing those events in mind. And yet, almost miraculously, the Three Cities have been given a new lease of life, partly due to European Union funding. You would really be missing out not to go. Most of the sites concerning women are in Vittoriosa/Birgu. From the Upper Barracca Gardens of Valletta you get a marvellous view of the Three Cities, and I think the nicest way to get there is to take the lift down from the corner of the gardens to the waterfront and cross the road to the old Customs House behind which is the landing place for the regular passenger ferry which carries you across the Grand Harbour. Ferries go at a quarter to and a quarter past the hour, and return on the hour and the half hour. That is the way we went. Guide books suggest how you make the journey by car or bus. If you are taking the south tour on the Hop-On Hop-Off bus, you could hop off at the Vittoriosa waterfront (and then hop on a later one). -

Military Sites Are Part of Urban Monuments Which Are Also All
REPAIR Thematic Network BASELINE STUDY BASELINE STUDY INTRODUCTION The withdrawal of the military presence from an urban area can happen suddenly, leading to extremely adverse socio-economic circumstances. This notably concerns small and medium sized urban areas where historically the military presence has dominated economic activity, providing much direct and indirect employment. These former military sites have excellent potential to act as the catalyst for urban socio-economic regeneration. Many of these sites consist of historic buildings, which may be considered critical assets. The challenge is to transform these abandoned military heritage sites into thriving sources of economic activity, employment and social cohesion. Our project will transfer identified good practice in the socio-economic re-use of military heritage sites and mainstreaming it to enable new regional development projects in other areas. Partner cities in the REPAIR Thematic Network share a common characteristic. The “sense of place” and identity has been shaped by significant presence of large swathes of military heritage buildings and sites, which military authorities have abandoned. The partners also share the major challenge of how to deliver the successful socio-economic and sustainable re-use of this abandoned military heritage so that it not only achieves economic competitiveness, in line with “Lisbon” and “Gothenburg” goals. The sites within the partner cities are a mixture of military installations from medieval to modern built heritage. The latter systems have witnessed recent de-militarisation. De- militarisation in the late twentieth century left a significant social and economic vacuum caused because the local economies were often dependent on military presence with the effect of mini “command” economies.
