DR. ROBERT KOOB He began his teaching career at North Dakota State President in 1967 as an assistant professor of chemistry, advancing to professor of chemistry in 1972. CHRISTY HEBERT HEAD COACH 1ST SEASON

Former University of North ern Iowa Assistant Coach Ch risty Hebert beg ins her first season at the helm of the UNI softball prog ram. Having served two years as the assista nt in charge of working with the infield, hitting and in recruiting, the transition to head coach shou ld be a smooth one for Hebert and the Panthers. Strong pitching, solid hitting and fundamenta l defen se is the keys to success in the game of softball. All three of these are important aspects to Hebert's coaching philosophy Hebert hopes to instill in her players the fundamentals of the game. LINDSAY WOOD 2002 ALL-AMERICAN

Lindsay Wood became UN l's first softba ll first team All-American in school history in 2002. The senior from Eldridge, IA, rewrote the UNI record books and polished off her career as one of the most decorated players in school history. Wood began her career during the 1998-99 season and had a freshman campaign beyond all expectations. She earned first team all-conference honors as an at-large pick. She was the first player in UNI history to make the all-con­ ference team as a freshman. Wood won the league batting title with a .469 ~-~--~~ average in Missouri Valley Conference games. No sophomore slump for this Panther, as she continued to perform exceptionally well. She was named to the all -Missouri Valley Conference first team and earned Midwest Regional first team honors. During the 2000 season, Wood broke sc hool record s for a single season in (128). hits (77). and extra base hits (30). She batted .419 against MVC opponents for her second straight MVC crown. After a stellar sophomore season, Wood established herse lf as one of the top players in the MVC. As a junior, Wood batted .33 1 overall. with team highs in hits (58). doubles (13). triples (2) and total bases (78). She ranked sixth in the conference in batting (.353) and was an at-large se lection first team all-conference. She gained more regional attention after being named to the 2001 Midwest Regional second team . There's an old saying that says, " the best for last" and that is exactly what Wood did. In her senior year, she had her best season as a Panther and earned the coveted first team all-America honor. Wood set numerous schoo l and conference records in her final season. She set a new MVC record for hits (83) and batting average (.444) For the year, she batted .446, ranking sixth nationally. She earned Valley Player of the Year honors as a unanimous selection. She was named to the MVC all-tournament team and set a conference record with five Player of the Week honors. Along wi th speed, power and solid defensive skills, Wood also was a clutch hitter. She had game-winning grand slams against Cal State-Northridge, Louisville and Indiana State. She tallied the game-winning RBI against #6 Arizona State in the ninth inning Wood also had a game-winning home run against Northern Illinois. The fact is, Wood had one of the greatest careers in the history of UNI softball. She nearly rewrote the UNI record book and set numer­ ous conference records. She became the first player in UNI history to earn first team all-America honors.
