Let peace begin with me Let this be the moment now. With ev'ry step I take Let this be my solemn vow To take each moment and live Each moment in peace eternally Let there be peace on earth And let it begin with me OVER THE RAINBOW (Arlen/Harburg) Somewhere over the rainbow Way up high, There's a land that I heard of Once in a lullaby. Somewhere over the rainbow Skies are blue, And the dreams that you dare to dream Really do come true. Someday I'll wish upon a star And wake up where the clouds are far Behind me. Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Somewhere over the rainbow Bluebirds fly. Page 5 of 9 THANK YOU, ESSENTIAL WORKERS SING-A-LONG SONGLIST Birds fly over the rainbow. Why then, oh why can't I? PUT A LITTLE LOVE IN YOUR HEART (Dolly Parton) Think of your fellow man, lend him a helping hand Put a little love in your heart You see, it's getting late, oh, please don't hesitate Put a little love in your heart And the world will be a better place And the world will be a better place for you and me You just wait and see Another day goes by, and still the children cry Put a little love in your heart 'Cause you want the world to know, we won't let hatred grow Put a little love in your heart And the world will be a better place And the world will be a better place for you and me You just wait and see Put a little love in your heart, each and every day There's got to be a better way Don't you think it's time we start Put a little love in your heart RAINDROPS KEEP FALLING ON MY HEAD (Bacharach, David) Raindrops are falling on my head And just like the guy whose feet are too big for his bed Nothing seems to fit Those raindrops are falling on my head, they keep falling So I just did me some talking to the sun And I said I didn't like the way he got things done Sleeping on the job Those raindrops are falling on my head, they keep falling But there's one thing I know The blues they send to meet me Won't defeat me, it won't be long Till happiness steps up to greet me Raindrops keep falling on my head But that doesn't mean my eyes will soon be turning red Crying's not for me Page 6 of 9 THANK YOU, ESSENTIAL WORKERS SING-A-LONG SONGLIST 'Cause I'm never gonna stop the rain by complaining Because I'm free Nothing's worrying me TOMORROW (Charles Strouse) The sun'll come out tomorrow Bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow There'll be sun! Just thinkin' about tomorrow Clears away the cobwebs and the sorrow 'Til there's none! When I'm stuck with a day that's grey and lonely I just stick out my chin and grin and say Oh! The sun'll come out tomorrow So ya gotta hang on ‘til tomorrow Come what may Tomorrow, tomorrow! I love ya tomorrow! You're always a day away! Tomorrow, tomorrow! I love ya tomorrow! You're always a daaay Aaaaa-waaaay! UNITED WE STAND (Tony Hiller & Peter Simons) There's nowhere in the world that I would rather be Then with you my love And there's nothing in the world that I would rather see Than you smile my love For united we stand. Divided we fall And if our backs should ever be against the wall We'll be together, together, you and I For united we stand. Divided we fall And if our backs should ever be against the wall We'll be together, Together, you and I And if the world around you falls apart my love Then I'll still be here And if the going gets too hard along the way Just you call I'll hear Page 7 of 9 THANK YOU, ESSENTIAL WORKERS SING-A-LONG SONGLIST For united we stand. Divided we fall And if our backs should ever be against the wall We'll be together, Together, you and I For united we stand. Divided we fall And if our backs should ever be against the wall We'll be together, Together, you and I WE ARE THE WORLD (Michael Jackson & Lionel Ritchie) There comes a time When we heed a certain call When the world must come together as one There are people dying Oh, and it's time to lend a hand to life The greatest gift of all Oh, send them your heart So they know that someone cares And their lives will be stronger and free As God has shown us by turning stones to bread And so we all must lend a helping hand We are the world We are the children We are the ones who make a brighter day, so let's start giving There's a choice we're making We're saving our own lives It's true we'll make a better day, just you & me We are the world (we are the world) We are the children (we are the children) We are the ones who'll make a brighter day so let start giving (let's start giving) There's a choice we're making We're saving our own lives It's true we'll make a better day, just you & me, come on now, let me hear you It's true we'll make a better day, just you & me WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD (Ledisi) I see trees of green, red roses too I see them bloom for me and you And I think to myself what a wonderful world I see skies of blue and clouds of white The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night And I think to myself what a wonderful world Page 8 of 9 THANK YOU, ESSENTIAL WORKERS SING-A-LONG SONGLIST The colors of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky Also on the faces of people going by I see friends shaking hands, saying how do you do They're only saying I love you I see babies crying, I watch them grow They'll learn so much more than I'll ever know Then I think to myself what a wonderful world I think to myself, what a wonderful world WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NOW (By Burt Bacharach and Hal David) What the world needs now is love, sweet love It's the only thing that there's just too little of What the world needs now is love, sweet love No, not just for some but for everyone Lord, we don't need another mountain There are mountains and hillsides enough to climb There are oceans and rivers enough to cross Enough to last till the end of time What the world needs now is love, sweet love It's the only thing that there's just too little of What the world needs now is love,

  • Issue 33 – Summer 2008
KOSA NEWS NUMBER 33 - SUMMER 2008 The Magazine of the Old Scholars of Kingswood Grammar School Editor: Mike Bendrey, 26 Overndale Road, Downend, Bristol, BS16 2RT Tel/Fax: 0117 956 5689 E-mail address: [email protected] EDITORIAL... My appeal in the last edition for someone (younger?) from the Bristol Area to help put together an edition with a view to succeeding in the editor’s chair largely fell on deaf ears (or blind eyes!). Save a very complimentary letter from JOHN COLE (49-56), which modesty prohibits me from publishing, in which he suggested that one advantage of my stepping down is that the new editor would surely not model that cap. How it has escaped ceremonial burning only DEREK BAILEY (49-53) can explain (it’s his). Being upset by such sentiments I have reverted to childhood and gone back some 57 years to my first photo taken at KGS, complete with school tie - but no cap. We are sorry that BOB GRAY (49-56) and his wife Sherry have now retired from catering. They have served us well (geddit?) over many years, for which we would like to express our grateful thanks. We hope to see them both, seated, at future lunches. As ever, many thanks for all your contributions. I’ve had to hold some over for next time and I still have many photos yet unpublished, so watch this space and please keep your contributions coming. DIARY DATES... ANNUAL AUTUMN LUNCH: Booked for SATURDAY, 11 OCTOBER 2008 at Lincombe Barn, Downend at 12 to 12.30, lunch at 1.00pm.

Music Notes: I’d like to Teach the World to Sing received its genesis in 1971 from an advertising executive in an Irish airport where he and his workmates overheard some people talking about drinking Coca-Cola – which is likely the way the entire world first came to know the song. In 1972, both the Hill Top Singers and The Seekers released reworked versions of the song without reference to the soft drink. The Seekers’ version eventually sold over twelve million copies and it reached #1 on the British hit parade while becoming a gold record in the U.S.
