During the fall of2000 and continuing into the winter of200 I, the San Di ego Spirit of the WUSA, will complete a 2.3 mi ll ion doll ar renova ti on of th e stadium which made it possible for the Spirit, San Di ego's professional women's soccer team, to call Torero Stadium home fo r their inaugural season. The addi tions include new lighting and sound systems, a new playing surface and 3, I 00 new seats in added south side bleachers and new end-zone secti ons. Two new press and coaching box towers were also buil t above the south side bl eachers. The University of San Diego and San Diego's entire soccer community has been privileged year after year, to watch a program that ranks among the nation's best and continues to be one of the most promising women's soccer programs in the country. In the nine years of USO women's soccer, the Toreros have averaged over IO wins per season. The past two years and in 1996, USO was awarded a birth in the NCAA Tournament, advancing to the second round twice. The Toreros have posted an impressive 28-13-1 record in the WCC since 1996 and will attempt to post their seventh straight winning record in WCC play this season. San Diego's home field, Torero Stadium was upgraded this past spring to play host to the city's WUSA The Players professional soccer team, the San Diego Spirit.
