EDY: Conditions of Acceptance: The United States Military, the Press, and the “Woman War Correspondent,” 1846-1945 (Under the direction of Jean Folkerts) This dissertation chronicles the history of American women who worked as war correspondents through the end of World War II, demonstrating the ways the military, the press, and women themselves constructed categories for war reporting that promoted and prevented women’s access to war: the “war correspondent,” who covered war-related news, and the “woman war correspondent,” who covered the woman’s angle of war. As the first study to examine these concepts, from their emergence in the press through their use in military directives, this dissertation relies upon a variety of sources to consider the roles and influences, not only of the women who worked as war correspondents but of the individuals and institutions surrounding their work. Nineteenth and early 20th century newspapers continually featured the woman war correspondent—often as the first or only of her kind, even as they wrote about more than sixty such women by 1914. -

Microfilming of German Records in the National Archives
Microfilming of German Records in the National Archives Downloaded from http://meridian.allenpress.com/american-archivist/article-pdf/22/4/433/2744001/aarc_22_4_w1073t07648j510q.pdf by guest on 27 September 2021 By DAGMAR HORNA PERMAN * American Historical Association ELDOM are historians suddenly given access to documentary material covering all aspects of a nation's life during a whole S era. Yet this is the opportunity now afforded to historians in America. Within a short time they will have available documents of the Hitler era in Germany reflecting its origins, causes, ad- ministrative system, philosophy, policies, military system, propa- ganda, and almost every other imaginable feature of significance or interest. For in the National Archives, every month, hundreds of rolls of microfilm are added to the growing collection of material pertaining to Nazi rule. Nor is the material concerned with Germany alone. Vast num- bers of the documents relate to military operations of the Germans outside their borders and to the civilian and military exploitation of conquered and occupied nations. Not only historians concentrating on Germany, therefore, but also those whose primary interests are Russia, Southeastern Europe, France, Italy, Scandinavia, and other Western European countries, as well as the Near and Far East, will find valuable material in the collection of microfilm now being as- sembled at the National Archives. That this wealth of documenta- tion will be available on microfilm, which scholars can either use in the National Archives or purchase for reading in the comfort of their own libraries, is the result of a joint enterprise of the Ameri- can Historical Association and the United States Government. -

OUTPOST OF FREEDOM: A GERMAN-AMERICAN NETWORK’S CAMPAIGN TO BRING COLD WAR DEMOCRACY TO WEST BERLIN, 1933-72 Scott H. Krause A dissertation submitted to the faculty at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Department of History. Chapel Hill 2015 Approved by: Konrad H. Jarausch Christopher R. Browning Klaus W. Larres Susan Dabney Pennybacker Donald M. Reid Benjamin Waterhouse © 2015 Scott H. Krause ALL RIGHTS RESERVED ii ABSTRACT Scott H. Krause: Outpost of Freedom: A German-American Network’s Campaign to bring Cold War Democracy to West Berlin, 1933-66 (under the direction of Konrad H. Jarausch) This study explores Berlin’s sudden transformation from the capital of Nazi Germany to bastion of democracy in the Cold War. This project has unearthed how this remarkable development resulted from a transatlantic campaign by liberal American occupation officials, and returned émigrés, or remigrés, of the Marxist Social Democratic Party (SPD). This informal network derived from members of “Neu Beginnen” in American exile. Concentrated in wartime Manhattan, their identity as German socialists remained remarkably durable despite the Nazi persecution they faced and their often-Jewish background. Through their experiences in New Deal America, these self-professed “revolutionary socialists” came to emphasize “anti- totalitarianism,” making them suspicious of Stalinism. Serving in the OSS, leftists such as Hans Hirschfeld forged friendships with American left-wing liberals. These experiences connected a wider network of remigrés and occupiers by forming an epistemic community in postwar Berlin. They recast Berlin’s ruins as “Outpost of Freedom” in the Cold War. -

Secret Societies That Threaten to Take Over America Rise of 4th Reich J. Marrs INTRODUCTION PART ONE - THE HIDDEN HISTORY OF THE THIRD REICH PART TWO - THE REICH CONSOLIDATES PART THREE - THE REICH ASCENDANT Epilogue INTRODUCTION ADOLF HITLER’S THIRD REICH ENDED IN BERLIN ON APRIL 30, 1945 Thunder reverberated from a storm of Russian artillery that was bombarding the ruined capital. The day before, along with the incoming shells, came particularly bad news for the fuehrer, who by this late date in World War II was confined to his underground bunker beneath the Reich chancellery. Hitler had learned that two days earlier his Axis partner, Italy’s Fascist dictator Benito Mussolini, had been captured by paramilitary Italian resistance fighters. Mussolini and his mistress, Clara Petacci, were executed and their bodies were left hanging from lampposts in a Milan piazza. This news was especially worrisome to Hitler because only hours earlier he had married Eva Braun in a small civil ceremony inside the Fuehrerbunker. Hitler had previously vowed never to be captured alive, and reiterated to his entourage that neither he nor his new bride would be made a “spectacle, presented by the Jews, to divert their hysterical masses.” He made obvious preparations for the end of his reign. He handed out poison capsules to his remaining female secretaries and had Blondi, his favorite Alsatian dog, poisoned. Two other house hold dogs were shot. Dictating a last will, he stated, “I myself and my wife—in order to escape the disgrace of deposition or capitulation—choose death.” He ordered that their bodies be burned immediately. -
The Devil's Chemists—1952
The Devil’s Chemists—24 Conspirators of the International Farben Cartel Who Manufacture Wars By Josiah DuBois Like Ambruster’s Treason’s Peace, Josiah DuBois’s The Devil’s Chemists highlights how the I.G. Farben chemical firm manipulated trade relationships to the advantage of the Third Reich. In addition, the book illustrates how corporations, businessmen and politicians beholden unto the firm’s non-German cartel partners assisted that manipulation, as well as the postwar rehabilitation and exoneration of both I.G. and its most important personnel. Those personnel are the primary focus of Josiah Du Bois’s The Devil’s Chemists. In addition, DuBois emphasizes the damage done to America’s international credibility by its postwar preservation of I.G. Farben and other Axis/fascist cartels. One cannot understand the history of the 20th century without understanding the role played in world events of the time by the I.G. Farben company, the chemical cartel that grew out of the German dyestuffs industry. Comprising some of the most important individual companies in the history of industrial capitalism, the firm has dominated the dyestuffs, chemical and pharmaceutical industries before and during World War II. The companies that grew out of I.G.’s official dissolution after the war—Bayer, Hoechst, BASF, and Agfa continued to be decisive in world markets. Among the many products developed by I.G. or its member companies are aspirin, heroin, Novocain, methadone (originally named Dolophine in honor of Adolph Hitler) and Zyklon B (the poison gas used in the extermination centers of World War II.) Both the Ambruster and DuBois texts set forth the international scope and economic impact of the company, its role as the spine of the industrial war-making economy of the Third Reich and the firm’s elevation of Hitler to his position of power. -
Information for Cancelling of Dow/Dupont Merger in India
Director, Competition Commission of India, HT House, New Delhi Date :9/04/17 Dear Sir, SUB: Information for cancelling of Dow/DuPont merger in India After reviewing the CCI document on Dow/Dupont merger we Navdanya, a network of organic farmers and seeds savers, write you seeking the rejection of the application for the merger between the Dow and Dupont based on the objective of the Competition Act which is which is to protect the interests of consumers and to ensure freedom of trade carried on by other participants in markets, in India. India is a land of small farmers . They are the “other participants in markets in India “ producing diverse , healthy food to India‟s citizens and consumers .The right to seed , right to life and livelihood , and the right to produce healthy and safe food of our small farmers will be directly impacted by the merger of Dow Dupont . By the following: 1. Misleading and incorrect information due to Conflict of Interest The complete data submitted to the CCI and put in public domain is created by the corporations themselves and is not from a “third independent party”. The dossier says “Note: The market shares are based on 3rd party independent database, i.e., CropLife India (for value shares) and GfK Sigma‟s Agrowin dataset (for volume shares).” CropLife cannot be categorised as independent third party since Dow, Dupont are both members of the CorpLife. Hence there is a direct conflict of interest. (please find document attached). Source: https://croplife.org/about/members/ On the basis of this information, CropLife assessment should not be considered by the CCI as the two merging companies are members of these organisations.
