When You're Strange Berlinale 2009 Tom DiCillo Panorama WHEN YOU’RE STRANGE Dokumente WHEN YOU’RE STRANGE WHEN YOU’RE STRANGE USA 2009 Dokumentarfilm mit John Densmore Länge 88 Min. The Doors sollte sie heißen. WHEN YOU’RE STRANGE In the beginning there was “The Doors of Perception”, Aldous Huxley’s book Produktion about his experiences with mescaline and other hallucinogenic drugs. The Strange Pictures 100 Universal City Plaza, William Blake quote that inspired Huxley’s book title also provided Jim Bldg. 2252, 2nd Floor Morrison and Ray Manzarek with a name for the band they founded in USA-Universal City CA 91608 Venice Beach in 1965 – The Doors. Just as the drug had done for Huxley, so Tel.: +1 818 7772528 too should their music combine melody and mysticism in order to expand Fax: +1 818 8661446 consciousness. It was no coincidence that the founding duo met the two [email protected] other band members John Densmore and Robby Krieger at an esoteric Weltvertrieb course. The band was now complete; by 1971, it had become one of the noch offen most significant and influential rock bands in America. 1 This documentary provides the first detailed record of the band’s early Filmografie years, between their initial performances – playing in the corridors of UCLA Filme als Kameramann Film School – and Jim Morrison’s tragic death in Paris. Filmmaker Tom 1980 PERMANENT VACATION DiCillo brings together plenty of hitherto unpublished film material; his film Regie: Jim Jarmusch 1980 UNDERGROUND U.S.A. shows The Doors in the studio, backstage and performing on stage. The Regie: Eric Mitchell documentary also makes mention – how could it not – of Jim Morrison’s 1983 VARIETY legendary excesses: fame, drugs, sex and alcohol. The film’s focus however Regie: Bette Gordon is the uncompromising artistic vision of four musicians who, in just six 1984 STRANGER THAN PARADISE albums in five years, succeeded in making a formidable contribution to the Regie: Jim Jarmusch BURROUGHS history of pop culture. Regie: Howard Brookner 1986 COFFEE AND CIGARETTES WHEN YOU’RE STRANGE Regie: Jim Jarmusch A l’origine, il y a « Les Portes de la perception », le livre d’Aldous Huxley sur 1987 ROBINSON’S GARDEN son expérience de la mescaline et d’autres drogues hallucinogènes.
