It left Spurs one point ahead of their Russian rivals, meaning they will move into the UEFA Europa League unless CSKA inflict a third Wembley defeat of this season's competition. • When the teams met on matchday two in Moscow – their first competitive fixture – Heung-Min Son's late goal gave the visitors victory. Match background Tottenham • Back among the European elite after an absence of five seasons, Tottenham began with a 2-1 defeat against Monaco at their adopted home, Wembley Stadium. • In the double-header against Leverkusen Spurs drew 0-0 away and again failed to make home advantage count in the return, going down 1-0. • Spurs won four of five home games en route to the last 16 of the UEFA Europa League in 2015/16, going down 2-1 at White Hart Lane to Borussia Dortmund for a 5-1 aggregate defeat. • Third in the Premier League last season, the north London side are participating in their second UEFA Champions League group stage campaign. They reached the quarter-finals in 2010/11. • In three European home games against Russian visitors Spurs have won two and drawn one. • They are playing their UEFA Champions League home fixtures at Wembley Stadium owing to the impact – on access, capacity and rights delivery – of construction work taking place on a new stadium adjacent to White Hart Lane. • Spurs won their first match at the new Wembley – beating Chelsea FC 2-1 in the 2008 English League Cup final – but have lost on all six visits since (2009 and 2015 League Cup finals; 2010 and 2012 FA Cup semi-finals and the Monaco and Leverkusen fixtures). CSKA • The Russian champions recovered a two-goal deficit to draw 2-2 at Leverkusen at the start of their tenth group stage campaign. • On matchday three they drew 1-1 at home to Monaco while the away game brought a 3-0 defeat for Leonid Slutski's side. • In their fourth successive group stage campaign, CSKA are aiming to improve on last season's performance when they finished bottom of Group B (W1 D1 L4). • They have lost nine of their last 11 away games in the group stage of this competition, their solitary success coming in a 2-1 win at Manchester City FC on matchday four in 2014/15. • The Army Men have lost on three of their seven visits to England, drawing three. Their overall record against Premier League opposition is W3 D5 L8. Coach and player links • Bibras Natcho scored for FC Rubin Kazan when Spurs lost 1-0 there in the 2011/12 UEFA Europa League group stage. • Mauricio Pochettino won in Moscow as an RCD Espanyol player in a 1-0 UEFA Cup group stage victory over FC Lokomotiv Moskva in 2005/06. • Slutski was coach of the Russia side who drew 1-1 with England at UEFA EURO 2016 thanks to Vasili Berezutski's added-time equaliser. Eric Dier had earlier scored a free-kick past Akinfeev. • The other players involved in that match in Marseille were: Sergei Ignashevich, Georgi Schennikov, and Aleksandr Golovin (Russia); Kyle Walker, Danny Rose, Dele Alli, Harry Kane (England). • Ben Davies was in the Wales side that later eliminated Russia with a 3-0 victory in the nations' final EURO group game. • Hugo Lloris and Moussa Sissoko played in France's 4-2 win over Slutski's Russia in a pre-EURO friendly at the Stade de France on 29 March. Akinfeev, Vasili and Aleksei Berezutski, Golovin and Alan Dzagoev played for Russia. 4 Tottenham Hotspur FC - PFC CSKA Moskva Wednesday 7 December 2016 - 20.45CET (19.45 local time) Match press kit Wembley Stadium, London • Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen helped Belgium beat Russia 1-0 at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Son Heung- Min was in the Korea Republic side who held Russia 1-1 in the same group phase in Brazil. • Zoran Tošić began his brief Manchester United career as a substitute in a 2-1 FA Cup fourth-round win over Tottenham in January 2009. • Traoré played against Sissoko in Anji's 0-0 home draw with the latter's Newcastle United FC side in the 2012/13 UEFA Europa League round of 16. • Traoré spent the second half of 2013/14 on loan at Everton FC, playing two games and scoring once. • Victor Wanyama won 3-2 at FC Spartak Moskva with Celtic FC in the 2012/13 UEFA Champions League group stage. • Alderweireld, Vertonghen and Christian Eriksen lost 3-0 in Moscow with AFC Ajax, beaten by Spartak in the 2010/11 UEFA Europa League round of 16.

The German club – in the round of 16 for the fifth time in seven seasons – come into this tie having finished first in Group A, while Tottenham claimed the runners-up spot in Group B thanks to a memorable 1-1 draw at Barcelona on matchday six. Previous meetings • All four of the sides' past contests have come in the past three years. • In the 2015/16 UEFA Europa League round of 16, Dortmund were 3-0 winners in the home first leg – Marco Reus scoring twice – before a 2-1 success at White Hart Lane despite Heung-Min Son's goal for the home side. • Tottenham turned the tables in last season's UEFA Champions League group stage, winning 3-1 at Wembley – Son opening the scoring with Harry Kane adding two more – and 2-1 in Germany, the same two Spurs players again on the scoresheet.

IN THE MATTER OF A FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION INDEPENDENT REGULATORY COMMISSION BETWEEN: THE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION The Association - and - (1) CHELSEA FOOTBALL CLUB (2) TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR FOOTBALL CLUB The Participants ________________________________________________________ WRITTEN REASONS FOR THE DECISION OF THE INDEPENDENT REGULATORY COMMISSION FOLLOWING THE HEARING ON 10TH MAY 2016 _________________________________________________________ 1. BACKGROUND 1.1 On 2nd May 2016, Chelsea FC played Tottenham Hotspur FC in a Premier League match at Stamford Bridge. The outcome of the match was potentially of great significance to the race to become Premier League champions for the 2015/16 season; anything other than a win for Tottenham would confirm Leicester City FC as champions. And so it proved to be; Tottenham were 2-0 up at half-time, but Chelsea scored two second half goals to draw the match 2-2. 1.2 The game was ill-tempered and at times threatened to get out of control. The match referee, Mark Clattenburg, issued nine cautions to Tottenham players, a Premier League record for a single match, and three to Chelsea. There were also three mass confrontations between the opposing teams, another unprecedented and highly dubious record. 1.3 Mr. Clattenburg prepared Extraordinary Incident Reports following the match, which may be summarised as follows: (i) Players from both teams were involved an in altercation in the 45th minute, resulting in one player from each team being cautioned. Although he did not witness the incident at the time, it was subsequently brought to Mr. Clattenburg’s attention that a Tottenham player, Mousa Dembele, had his hand in the face of Diego Costa of Chelsea and appeared to gouge with his fingers towards the eyes of the latter.
