  • The Effects of Digital Music Distribution" (2012)
Southern Illinois University Carbondale OpenSIUC Research Papers Graduate School Spring 4-5-2012 The ffecE ts of Digital Music Distribution Rama A. Dechsakda [email protected] Follow this and additional works at: http://opensiuc.lib.siu.edu/gs_rp The er search paper was a study of how digital music distribution has affected the music industry by researching different views and aspects. I believe this topic was vital to research because it give us insight on were the music industry is headed in the future. Two main research questions proposed were; “How is digital music distribution affecting the music industry?” and “In what way does the piracy industry affect the digital music industry?” The methodology used for this research was performing case studies, researching prospective and retrospective data, and analyzing sales figures and graphs. Case studies were performed on one independent artist and two major artists whom changed the digital music industry in different ways. Another pair of case studies were performed on an independent label and a major label on how changes of the digital music industry effected their business model and how piracy effected those new business models as well. I analyzed sales figures and graphs of digital music sales and physical sales to show the differences in the formats. I researched prospective data on how consumers adjusted to the digital music advancements and how piracy industry has affected them. Last I concluded all the data found during this research to show that digital music distribution is growing and could possibly be the dominant format for obtaining music, and the battle with piracy will be an ongoing process that will be hard to end anytime soon.

  • A Case Study of an Award Winning Public School String Orchestra Program
A CASE STUDY OF AN AWARD WINNING PUBLIC SCHOOL STRING ORCHESTRA PROGRAM Wing Man Fu A Thesis Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF MUSIC August 2009 Committee: Elaine J. Colprit, Advisor Penny T. Kruse ii ABSTRACT Elaine Colprit, Advisor The purpose of this study was to examine the history, growth, and development of an award winning public school string program. This study provided a description of a model of an excellent orchestra program and produced a general benefit to novice teachers who are setting up new programs, and to music educators by adding to our knowledge of the unique characteristics of a successful string program. There were three major sections of discussion in this study: (1) preparation for setting up a string program; (2) delivery of instruction in elementary, middle school, and high school levels of the program; and (3) continued growth, development, and support of the program. This research was accomplished by analysis of the following data: (a) live observations of class instruction at elementary, middle school, and high school, (b) orchestra handbooks and documents regarding curriculum and other guidelines; and (c) transcripts of interviews with faculty from Upper Arlington City Schools. Results show that individual faculty qualifications and experience prepare them to teach all levels of string classes. Based on their experiences, they are able to create an organized curriculum, design goal directed instructional plans, teach effectively as a team, and sustain a successful string program. iii ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS I would like to express my gratitude to my supervisor, Dr.

  • A Piece of History
A Piece of History Theirs is one of the most distinctive and recognizable sounds in the music industry. The four-part harmonies and upbeat songs of The Oak Ridge Boys have spawned dozens of Country hits and a Number One Pop smash, earned them Grammy, Dove, CMA, and ACM awards and garnered a host of other industry and fan accolades. Every time they step before an audience, the Oaks bring four decades of charted singles, and 50 years of tradition, to a stage show widely acknowledged as among the most exciting anywhere. And each remains as enthusiastic about the process as they have ever been. “When I go on stage, I get the same feeling I had the first time I sang with The Oak Ridge Boys,” says lead singer Duane Allen. “This is the only job I've ever wanted to have.” “Like everyone else in the group,” adds bass singer extraordinaire, Richard Sterban, “I was a fan of the Oaks before I became a member. I’m still a fan of the group today. Being in The Oak Ridge Boys is the fulfillment of a lifelong dream.” The two, along with tenor Joe Bonsall and baritone William Lee Golden, comprise one of Country's truly legendary acts. Their string of hits includes the Country-Pop chart-topper Elvira, as well as Bobbie Sue, Dream On, Thank God For Kids, American Made, I Guess It Never Hurts To Hurt Sometimes, Fancy Free, Gonna Take A Lot Of River and many others. In 2009, they covered a White Stripes song, receiving accolades from Rock reviewers.

  • The Effects of Hip-Hop and Rap on Young Women in Academia
The Effects of Hip-Hop and Rap on Young Women in Academia by Sandra C Zichermann A thesis submitted in conformity with the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Education Sociology in Education Ontario Institute for Studies in Education University of Toronto © Copyright by Sandra C Zichermann 2013 The Effects of Hip-Hop and Rap on Young Women in Academia Sandra C Zichermann Doctor of Education Sociology in Education University of Toronto 2013 Abstract This thesis investigates the rise of the cultures and music of hip-hop and rap in the West and its effects on its female listeners and fans, especially those in academia. The thesis consists of two parts. First I conducted a content analysis of 95 lyrics from the book, Hip-Hop & Rap: Complete Lyrics for 175 Songs (Spence, 2003). The songs I analyzed were performed by male artists whose lyrics repeated misogynist and sexist messages. Second, I conducted a focus group with young female university students who self-identify as fans of hip-hop and/or rap music. In consultation with my former thesis supervisor, I selected women enrolled in interdisciplinary programmes focused on gender and race because they are equipped with an academic understanding of the potential damage or negative effects of anti-female or negative political messaging in popular music. My study suggests that the impact of hip-hop and rap music on young women is both positive and negative, creating an overarching feeling of complexity for some young female listeners who enjoy music that is infused with some lyrical messages they revile.

mr bill collector bone thugs free mp3 download Mr. Bill Collector Lyrics. Them callin' me Mr. Bill Collector, Needin' me money, no ease up tonight, (See niggas can't stand us, so they label us scandalous) And if them runnin' off with me cash, That ass gonna have to pay the price, (Meet a muthaf*ckin' po-po; gotta hit 'em with the fo'-fo') [Verse 1: Krayzie Bone] Don't be f*ckin' with my money, nigga no, See when Krayzie pull the pump, then I kill 'em all. Pump slugs, when blood hit the wall, watch 'em fall, Now dog who ya gonna call? Puttin' niggas in the coffin where they probably better off And Leatherface is not a punk bitch so a nigga just can't f*ck me, Nigga better have me cash, Or I kill his whole family when the twelve gauge pump blast, now test me, Never ever let a nigga ride when he think he fin to slide, Pop him in the spine, get him for the money, Nigga tried to play me and dash, And that's why me thugs should put slugs in that ass, then tell he And me never want to see no, Oh jealous muthaf*cka tried to keep a nigga ends low, If he scared to smoke a primo, Gotta go with the fiends and in the click is a no no. Gotta make that money man, Gimme all my change, it's a murder thang, now Even in the dummy game, niggas comin' up slain for collectin' they claim Now, Leatherface, me pick up me gauge, leather mask and nigga, me blast, So ya better respect us, when you see the bill collector, Rippin' killin' niggas for that mad money thang.
