The Internal Revenue Service has recognized the Association as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, and contributions qualify as charitable deductions for the donor to the extent permitted by law. Information about such contributions may be obtained from the USFA National Office. Operations Manual History The Board of Directors shall provide for the creation and maintenance of an Operations Manual, an Athlete Handbook and Rules of Competition to provide information about the policies, procedures and operations of the USFA. Such documents shall include, but need not be limited to: procedures for handling disciplinary issues; resolution of grievances by individuals or organizational members; removal from a team or declaring an athlete, coach, trainer, manager, administrator or official ineligible to participate; and the sanctioning and conduct of fencing competitions. The Operations Manual, Athlete Handbook and Rules of Competition shall be published in a manner, which may be electronic, that makes them generally and easily available to members of the USFA, and all members shall be deemed to have notice of the contents thereof. [USFA Bylaws, Article VII, section 15, revised July 2010] This edition of the Operations Manual is an update to the major revision of the Operations done in November 2006. This version incorporates actions of the Board and procedural changes of the USFA that have occurred since the 2006 edition. The manual will be updated periodically in accordance with the actions of the USFA Board of Directors and on the basis of recommended corrections and/or modifications. Certain Appendices in this version are works in progress as information is compiled and collated to provide one source of a permanent record. Revisions will be noted by the date given on the footer of each page. Unless otherwise explicitly provided, references in this Operations Manual to other documents and publications should be construed to mean the current versions of those materials at the time of the application of the provision in question. Major revisions and reorganization of previous editions of the USFA Operations Manual could not have succeeded without the pioneering efforts of the task force appointed in 1998: Nancy Anderson, George Kolombatovich, George Masin and David Sapery. Their efforts remained in limbo as others sought to find sufficient time to continue the goal of a manual that could be used with ease in the “field”. The 2006 revision: Kalle Weeks and Tanya Brown of the Tournament Committee, David Sapery of the Data Management Resource Committee, Edwin “Buzz” Hurst of the Division and Section Committee, Sam Cheris, Vice President (2004-2008) and key administrator through the years, Donald Alperstein, League counsel and Past President (1996-2000), Nancy Anderson –USFA President (2004-2008), Bill Oliver and Greg Dilworth of the FOC, and USFA staff, particularly, Dana Brown, Christine Simmons, and Corinne Greenman, had aided, abetted and given impetus to then editor in chief, Carla-Mae Richards. Suggestions to enable this manual to be more user friendly are welcome and should be forwarded to [email protected]. It is anticipated that revisions will be made every two years. The Operations Manual is the property of the USFA and is available on the USFA website, Resources Tab/Documents: www.usfencing.org. Permission is granted for reproduction of any portion of this book. Hard/Bound copy of the Athlete Handbook can be ordered from the USFA via email to [email protected] with payment of $50 (includes shipping) Carla-Mae Richards, Past Editor-in-Chief Retired Director of The 27 finalists consist of players and coaches that range from the 1940s to the 2000s. Numerous finalists have already been inducted into the International Volleyball Hall of Fame and others have been inducted into the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Hall of Fame. Almost all nominees have won NCAA, AIAW or USVBA National Championships and over two-thirds have competed or coached in at least one Olympic Games. Of the 27 selected, the leading colleges for the finalists are UCLA with eight having either played or coached there and USC in second with six having either played or coached there. Stanford, San Diego State, Long Beach State and Pepperdine have 3 that have either played or coached there. “The SCIVBHOF committee had the unique job of reviewing nearly 100 nominees to reach the 27 finalists and I know it be a challenging process to reach the 15 hall of fame inductees,” said Michael Sondheimer, SCIVBHOF Executive Director. “Anyone associated with USA and Southern California indoor volleyball should be proud of the first two years of accomplishments for the SCIVBHOF in recognizing the legends of the sport and in efforts to grow the future of the indoor sport through making non-profit youth volleyball donations.” The SCIVBHOF is located at American Sports Centers in Anaheim and is a free display open to the public in the Sidelines Café.

ANNUAL REPORT – INTRODUCTION Dear Bruins, Our department enjoyed an exciting and memorable year both on and off the field of competition in 2016- 17. Ten of our athletic teams finished among the Top 10, nationally. Of even greater significance, 126 of our student-athletes earned their degrees from this university in June and officially embarked upon the next chapter of their lives. Throughout the 2016-17 academic year, student- athletes earned Director’s Honor Roll accolades (3.0 GPA or higher) more than 980 times. In addition, our Graduation Success Rate (GSR) and Academic Progress Report (APR) numbers remained high across the board and among the best in the nation. UCLA’s overall GSR of 86% stands two percentage points higher than the national average of 84%. Our football team compiled the second-highest GSR among Pac-12 schools with 88% (the national average for FBS schools is 74%). In addition, six of our teams – men’s water polo, women’s basketball, women’s golf, softball, women’s tennis and women’s volleyball – had a GSR of 100 percent. Sixteen of our 20 sports programs had a GSR of 80 percent or higher. I’ve said it before and I’ll say As a department, we always pride ourselves on team practice facilities for our football, men’s basketball it again – our student-athletes not only meet these accomplishments, but it’s absolutely worth noting and women’s basketball teams, and I know that the expectations, but they almost always exceed them. It’s several outstanding individual efforts by our hard- coaches and student-athletes of these teams are a testament to their work ethic and to the support they working student-athletes.

Giuseppe’s Gazette ef August 2020 Greetings from Giuseppe! What is most appropriate with everything that is going on is the quote from William James. He says that a sense of humor is just common sense dancing. What a great image! So let’s keep our sense of humor this summer and keep dancing! And, of course keep giving us equines treats! (Heehaw! Heehaw! Heehaw!) We welcome Mark Harricharan, Bronx NY. Mark is an EMT with the New York Fire Department. We also welcome Trevor Farino, Middlesex. Trevor is Kaci Mulligan’s son and Bob Mulligan’s grandson. Bob started riding with us in June and at one lesson brought his grandson. Trevor had the opportunity to get on Chester and was smitten. Bob said he was “over the moon”. We’re happy to give you the chance, Trevor to be over the moon often! (Heehaw! Heehaw! Heehaw!) We welcome Mark Harricharan, Bronx NY. • FENCERS CLUB Est
FENCERS CLUB est. 1883 September 2, 2008 Dear Members, Former Members, and Friends, Fencers Club’s 2008 fiscal year, which ended yesterday, was probably the most eventful year in our 125-year history. During the Summer of 2007 several of the Club’s coaches left the Club and many of their students followed them to two new clubs. The resulting diminution of membership dues created additional financial stress on the FC, as we also faced the necessity of moving in May 2008 to a much more expensive space. I am pleased to report that our annus horribilus has turned into a highly successful transitional year. First of all, three of our members came home from the Olympics with silver medals: Erinn Smart and Emily Cross for the women’s foil team event and Keeth Smart for the men’s saber team event. In addition, Nzingha Prescod won the Cadet Women’s Foil World Championship. Everyone at the Club is enormously proud of these outstanding fencers. There is more good news. We are happy to welcome Kornel Udvarhelyi and Buckie Leach back to the Club as coaches, starting this week. We have missed them and are glad to have them once again as members of the Fencers Club family. Lyn Rollins came on board as the Club’s new Manager one year ago and has done a terrific job of reorganizing and modernizing our procedures across the board, while continuing our tradition of friendly and welcoming interaction with members, parents, and coaches. During the past year Paul Oratofsky has done an outstanding job, putting in place a software system that allows members to join, and pay for lessons, rent lockers, etc.
