ECONOMICS FINANCE 2018 Visit to Financial Institutions ECONOMICS FINANCE 2018 Visit to Financial Institutions Batch 2017-19, finance students visited commercial banks in teamson February 17, 2018as part of their Commercial Banking course. South Indian Bank , Sungam branch; Axis Bank, R.S. Puram branch; Indian Bank Town hall; Indian Bank, Siddhapudhur; Central Bank, Thadagam Branch, HSBC, Race Course branch; Catholic Syrian Bank, Gandhipuram branch, Axis Bank, Saravanampatti Branch . The teams interacted with bank officials to get to know the modus operandi of bank and collected data on various aspects like types of retail loans, Credit evaluation- credit analysis-credit scoring and consumer credit regulations, BASEL norms, Loan Pricing, Objectives, models, CIBIL Score Priority sector lending, types of deposits In India & abroad, Calculation of interest on bank deposits, Modern banking services- Challenges and prospects for modern banking. Corporate banking nature and development in corporate banking Consortium finance, Insolvency and bankruptcy code 2016. Dr.S.Sangeetha, Associate Professor coordinated this visit. 2017 Managerial Economics course Local Companies on August 19, 2017 180 students of batch 2017-19, visited various local companies like Aquasub Engineering, Eastern Spinwell Limited, Gesco, Jayam Engineering, Mas Solar System, Mouli Technologies, Ponmani Wet Grinder, Sairam Polymers, Southern Engineering , Vikashini Spinners Rojas Jute Company, Hifit Engineering Pvt Ltd, Kool Tek Industries , BERO Enterprise and Distributions ltd , Sri Farms , MechLab Equipments, Coimbatore; Cheran Pumps, Coimbatore; SS Engineering, Kariyampalayam, MillTech CNC, Coimbatore; Perfect Tools and Die, Perfect Tools and Dye; in and around Coimbatore on August 19, 2017. The students made a poster presentation on this visit on September 7, 2017. They collected data and explained the production functions, different types of cost incurred by the company. In addendum, they narrated the economies and diseconomies of scale. The visit is part of Managerial Economics course. Event organized by Dr.S.Sangeetha, Dr. B.Poongodi, Dr.P.Nalini and Ms. A.Latha Managerial Economics course Local Markets on August 30, 2017 180 students of batch 2017-19, visited various local markets like Fish market, Grocery market, Flower market, Grocery market, Old book market, Fruits market, Jewellery Market, Market for Pet Animals, Vegetable Market located at Singanallur Uzhavar santhai , MGR Street Metuppalayam & Kovilpalayam, Vegetables Mundies, Mettupalayam; Uzhavar Sandhai,DB Road; Flower Market, Coimbatore; Apparels Market, TownHall; Textiles Market; Avinashi in Coimbatore on August 30, 2017. The students made poster presentation on this visit and its study on September 7, 2017. The visit was part of managerial economics course. They collected data and justified the type of market structure it belongs to. Event organized by Dr.S.Sangeetha, Dr. B.Poongodi, Dr.P.Nalini and Ms. A.Latha Investment Analysis course Annamalai Capital Services Pvt Ltd., Coimbatore on September 15, 2017 A field visit to Annamalai Capital Services Pvt Ltd., Trichy road, Coimbatore was organized for the II MBA finance elective students (2016-18 Batch) on September 15, 2017. The visit was an experiential learning for the Investment Analysis course. Twenty students made the field visit. Mr.K.Suresh, Member of Multi Commodity Exchange of India Limited, Annamalai Capital Services Pvt Ltd facilitated the students during the visit. The discussions were about the origin of ACS, the requirements for account opening, trading and settlement, communication with customers, various exchanges, etc. The field visit was very interactive and informative and it helped the students in gaining more knowledge about the live stock market trading. The student coordinators for the field visit were Vasanthan.R (16MBA025) & Lathika Rajan.R (16MBA087). The course faculty and coordinator for the field visit was Dr. A. Senthil Kumar, Assistant Professor (SRG), School of Finance. 2016 Debate on Currency Demonetization on November 14, 2016 KCT Business School, Qubate and Sahitya jointly conducted a students’ debate on Currency Demonetization on November 14, 2016. There were 8 debaters from Engineering and KCTBS. They argued for and against the decision to demonetize Rs.500 and Rs.1, 000 notes in India. The impact of the demonetization on common man, economy, business and global relations were critically debated. The session was moderated by Mr.Ilamurugu Karunakaran, Vice President and Cluster Head of HDFC Bank Limited, Coimbatore. There were 100 participants from students and faculty of KCT. The student coordinator for the Debate was Mr.Vignesh Ravindran. The faculty Coordinators were A. Senthil Kumar, Assistant Professor (SRG), KCTBS; M.V.Umesh, Associate Professor, EIE and V.Abirami, Assistant Professor, S&H. Financial Institution Visit on October 5 & 6, 2016 On October 5 & 6, 2016 the Finance students of Batch 2015-17 visited various financial institutions like Banking, Stock Broking, Chits Funds, NBFCs in order to learn the modus operandi of these business. To mention a few institutions -Punjab National Bank, Repco Bank, Canara Bank, Sakthi Finance Limited, RBL Bank, Alagumeenakshi Finance, Destimoney Broking, Vijeta Broking India Pvt ltd, Alpha Capital, Tarapadi Cooperative Society and Thudiyalur Agriculture Cooperative Service Society were the institutions visited to gain practical exposure. Batch 2016-18 visited the local markets situated in and around Coimbatore on Sunday, September 18, 2016. They explored markets like Ukkadam Fish Market, Town Hall Cloth Market, Vegetable Market Saibaba Colony, Flower Market, Fruit Market etc. The outcome of the field visit was to provide knowledge and exposure on local market modus operandi, the mode of competition, logistics, substitutes, cost determination, pricing techniques, demand and supply estimation, inventory management, procurement techniques, negotiation skills, promotion strategy etc. The event was coordinated by the economics faculty S.Sangeetha, Dr. Nalini and Dr. V.Kaarthiekheyan. Workshop Union Budget Panel Discussion, on March9, 2016 A panel discussion on the Union Budget was arranged on March9, 2016 by CoF. The panel members were Mr.Illamurugu Vice President, HDFC Bank, Coimbatore; Mr.AravindThangam Partner, Paul &Aravind Chartered Accountants, Coimbatore; Mr.K.Ravi CFO, Roots Group of Companies, Coimbatore; MrShanmugaSundaram and Mr.A.Senthil Kumar,Assistant Professor (SRG),CoF was the moderator for the panel.The session started with an introduction speech by the moderator about the discussion topic. Mr..K.Ravi spoke about financial services and direct taxation. He spoke about the 9 pillars and also reiterated on Economic outlook, prospects & policy challenges, foreign exchange resources, roadmap and priorities.Mr.A.ShanmugaSundaram gave a brief note about Union Budget 2016 – 2017 Highlights. He spoke about allocation of budget on various sectors. Wavering of excise duty on electronic and hybrid vehicles was mentioned.As the third panel member Mr.Illamurugu shared his knowledge about Banking and Financial services. He discussed about the struggle of PSU banks, Absence of larger banks to compete globally, Recapitalization, Bankruptcy and Insolvency code, Budgetary reforms, its positives and concerns.Mr.AravindThangam spoke about the indirect taxes. He clearly stated what is Union Budget, and the types of fund which were consolidated fund,Contingencyfundand Public account of India. He also spoke of various kinds of indirect taxes.At the end of the panel discussion the topic was open for discussion. Various questions were asked to the panel members about limited time Voluntary disclosure,Bank under capitalization, GST,GAAR and Farm finance.This discussion was coordinated by student coordinators Nandhini. L and Abinaya.N( Batch 2015-17), S. PavithraVanshi, Finance Forum Executive (Batch 2014-16) along with faculty coordinator S. SangeethaAssistant Professor (SRG),CoF 2015 Discussion on "The Ripple Effects of Chinese Yuan Devaluation and Stock Market Crash on August 27, 2015 A discussion was conducted on August 27, 2015 on The Ripple effect of Chinese Yuan Devaluation and Stock Market Crash. The discussion session was open for participation and contribution by all MBA students & faculties. Fourteen students of batch 2014-16 & batch 2015- 17 participated in the discussion. A brief preparation on the cause and effects on the Chinese Yuan Devaluation and Stock Market Crash was prepared for the session by the students of Batch 2014-16. The discussion started with the origin of devaluation and the experience of Chinese about the globalization. There was a intense discussion about the Chinese economy and the current situation in relevance to GDP and FOREX reserve. The discussion enabled the participants to get to know more about the impact of devaluation among the various countries. There was also an argument among the participants regarding Asian currency crisis - 1997 and the financial crisis – 2008. Finally the discussion came to an end with the detailed knowledge about the effects of Chinese Yuan devaluation. Mr. A Senthil Kumar, Assistant Professor (SRG) facilitated and coordinated the discussion Real Time Online Share Trading Program on August 31, 2015 Real-time Online Share Trading Programme (ROSTP) was launched on August 31, 2015. Coimbatore is a well-developed city with heavy traffic, but its road infrastructure are poorly maintained making traffic congestion a major problems in city. The problem is identified in the Villakenaru pirivu in the place of THUDIYALUR-SARAVANAMPATTI road in COIMBATORE, TAMIL NADU. In order to reduce road block, the maximum solution is increasing its infrastructure. This location consists more of educational and commercial buildings with heavy traffic flow. The circumstance of flyover needs more space, we have proposed a Road under Bridge (RUB), to reduce the traffic congestion in that place. RUB is designed as Reinforced Cement Concrete BOX. The proposed structure is designed manually and analysed by using STAAD.PRO software.
