spackmanentertainmentgroup NEWS RELEASE SPACKMAN ENTERTAINMENT GROUP’S LIFE RISKING ROMANCE COMPLETES FILMING LIFE RISKING ROMANCE, starring Ha Ji-won, Chun Jung-myung, and Taiwanese actor Chen Bolin, has completed filming Expected to be released in theatres in the first half of 2016 Singapore, 10 December 2015 – Spackman Entertainment Group Limited (“Spackman Entertainment Group” or the “Company” and together with its subsidiaries, the “Group”), announced today that its movie LIFE RISKING ROMANCE has completed filming on 5 December 2015. The film is expected to be released in theatres in the first half of 2016. The film is presented and co-produced by its 51%-owned subsidiary Novus Mediacorp Co., Ltd. (“Novus Mediacorp”), and co-presented and distributed by its indirect wholly-owned subsidiary Opus Pictures Limited Liability Company. LIFE RISKING ROMANCE follows the story of Jane, a mystery novel writer (Ha Ji-won), her best friend Rokhwan (Chun Jung-myung), who is a police officer, and a mysterious, but charming neighbour named Jason (Chen Bolin). The three get intertwined in a complicated relationship amidst investigations into the serial murders happening in town. The romance thriller stars one of Korea’s top actresses Ha Ji-won, who is best known for her lead roles in television dramas, EMPRESS KI (2013/14), SECRET GARDEN (2010), and HWANG JINI (2006). Ha has also starred in several movies including the 2009 box office hit HAUNDAE, and has won numerous acting and popularity awards throughout her career. Also starring in the film is Korean actor Chun Jung-myung who is best known for his lead roles in the 2015 drama series HEART TO HEART and RESET (2014). -

(Signature, Date) Abstract This thesis aims to provide a comprehensive and systematic analysis about the growing popularity of Korean pop music (K-pop) worldwide in recent years. On one hand, the international expansion of K-pop can be understood as a result of the strategic planning and business execution that are created and carried out by the entertainment agencies. On the other hand, external circumstances such as the rise of social media also create a wide array of opportunities for K-pop to broaden its global appeal. The research explores the ways how the interplay between external circumstances and organizational strategies has jointly contributed to the global circulation of K-pop. The research starts with providing a general descriptive overview of K-pop. Following that, quantitative methods are applied to measure and assess the international recognition and global spread of K-pop. Next, a systematic approach is used to identify and analyze factors and forces that have important influences and implications on K-pop’s globalization. The analysis is carried out based on three levels of business environment which are macro, operating, and internal level. PEST analysis is applied to identify critical macro-environmental factors including political, economic, socio-cultural, and technological. -

ABSTRACT This study provides a new theological approach for interpreting the Non- Church Movement (NCM) in Korea. Previous studies have been written from a historical perspective. Therefore, an examination of the spirituality and characteristics of the NCM from a theological standpoint is a new approach. The present study investigates the connection between the NCM and Confucianism. It attempts to highlight the influence of Confucian spirituality on the NCM, in particular the Confucian tradition of learning. It also examines the link between the NCM and Quakerism, in particular the influence of Quaker ecclesiology on the NCM. This too has not been examined in previous studies. The thesis argues that the theological roots of NCM ecclesiology lie in the relatively flat ecclesiology of the Quaker movement in the USA. -
Traditional Legal Thoughts in Korea
Journal of Korean Law, Vol.2, No.3, 2003 Traditional Legal Thoughts in Korea Chongko Choi * Abstract In spite of the scarcity of research related to traditional Korean law, this article attempts to offer a general overview of traditional Korean legal concepts for Western readers. It surveys the legal history of Korea, from ancient times to the reception of Western law in the 19th Century. Due to Korea’s geographic location--between China and Japan--Korean law holds many similarities to that of “East Asian Common Law.” However, Korea has continuously endeavoured to indigenize imported foreign laws. The Tangun mythology offers the archetype of the Korean concept of law and justice. On the subject of medieval legal concepts influenced by Buddhism, Wonhyo, Choe Chiwon and Chong Mongju are mainly analysed. In regard to early modern legal concepts, the Neo-Confucianists Chong Tojon, Yi Hwang (Toegye) are discussed. When discussing the legal concepts of the late modern period, the Sirhak School, namely Yi I (Yulgok), Yi Ik (Songho), Chong Yakyong (Tasan) are analysed. Kang Hang, Yi Chinyoung and Yi Maegye are included due to their contribution towards “East Asian Common Law”. Each period had dominant morals and values that were enforced by the law. STUDIA ORIENTALNE 2021, nr 2 (20) ISSN 2299-1999 https://doi.org/10.15804/so2021209 Haesung Lee1 Joseon Literati’s Righteous Principles (Yiriron) as a Moral Practice in the Political Realities – Its Meaning and Limitation in a Historical Context Introduction:Dohak – the Joseon Neo-Confucianism Neo-Confucianism flourished as a central ideology and absolute social order during the Joseon dynasty (朝鮮 1392–1910). “Neo-Confucianism” is a gen- eral term commonly applied to the revival of the various strands of Confucian philosophy during the Chinese Sòng dynasty (宋 960–1280 C.E.), re-exam- ined and reconstructed by Zhu Xi (朱熹, 1130–1200 AD.) It provided Koreans with philosophical speculation, moral and social norms, and a most strongly functional lifestyle. However, the terms of Joseon Neo-Confucianism con- note some specific characteristics, compared to classic Confucianism and the Chinese version of “Neo-Confucianism”2. The term of Dohak (道學 Chin. Dàoxué) – Dao (Way) Learning – already existed in classical Confucian context. However, in Korea, it is generally called Dohak (道學), which concerns Neo-Confucianism of the Joseon dynasty in a holistic scale. Thus, a proper understanding of the term Dohak is essential to comprehend the essence and particular characteristics of Korean Neo-Con- fucianism. Among the similar terms which refer to Neo-Confucianism, such as Jujahak (朱子學 Chin. Zhūzǐxué: Zhu Xi’s Science) and Jeongjuhak (程朱學 1 University of Wrocław, Poland, ORCID ID: https://orcid.org/0000-0002-5185-3586, e-mail: [email protected]. 2 The Korean Neo-Confucianism 1) was condensed rather into an anthropological, centripetal, and inward way such as the “Four-Seven” theory and Human Nature; 2) pursued to seek religious an ethical legitimacy under the name of Confucian teaching, even beyond logical rationality; 3) put much more emphasis on Righteousness and Fidelity in a macroscale; 4) clarified the Righteousness as a theoretic speculation on moral propriety. -

International Journal of Communication 11(2017), 2367–2386 1932–8036/20170005 Between Hybridity and Hegemony in K-Pop’s Global Popularity: A Case of Girls’ Generation’s American Debut GOOYONG KIM1 Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, USA Examining the sociocultural implications of Korean popular music (K-pop) idol group Girls’ Generation’s (SNSD’s) debut on Late Show With David Letterman, this article discusses how the debut warrants a critical examination on K-pop’s global popularity. Investigating critically how the current literature on K-pop’s success focuses on cultural hybridity, this article maintains that SNSD’s debut clarifies how K-pop’s hybridity does not mean dialectical interactions between American form and Korean content. Furthermore, this article argues that cultural hegemony as a constitutive result of sociohistorical and politico- economic arrangements provides a better heuristic tool, and K-pop should be understood as a part of the hegemony of American pop and neoliberalism. Comparison Between Confucian Democracy of Dasan Jeong Yak-Yong and Modern Democracy of Jean-Jacques Rousseau
Korea Journal, vol. 57, no. 1 (spring 2017): 153–174. © Korean National Commission for UNESCO, 2017 Comparison between Confucian Democracy of Dasan Jeong Yak-yong and Modern Democracy of Jean-Jacques Rousseau YI Jongwoo Abstract One salient feature of modern democracy is that people elect their head of state, either directly or indirectly. This popular democracy is the result of revolutions in England, the USA, and France. However, this feature is also present in Confucian democracy as assert- ed by the Korean thinker Dasan Jeong Yak-yong. As such, this article presents a compara- tive analysis of Jean-Jacques Rousseau, a founding framer of modern democracy, and Dasan, a Korean Confucian and democratic thinker. Rousseau argued that the people had the right to elect their sovereign directly and dismiss him if he harmed peace and equality in the city-state (in this case, Geneva). However, Dasan claimed that lords cho- sen by the people had the right to elect the ruler and remove or even execute a tyrant if it were justified. Although Dasan and Rousseau did not influence each other, they made the common argument that the people had a right to elect and remove their chief. Rousseau stated that the people could elect their ruler directly, but that they should remove that ruler in a peaceful way through an assembly. Dasan suggested that the people elect their ruler indirectly and remove a tyrant through justified revolution. Their respective concep- tions of democracy both presuppose that the ruler should act on behalf of the people. Thus, this article analyzes the claims of these two thinkers when a ruler causes misery to the people. -
