eXcellent speed, eXcellent quality, eXcellent tools ABOUT X-EDGE _

How we started

With more than 50 years combined experience in the CNC machine industry, we have learned a lot of things along the way. e most important being that if you want to achieve what no one else has done, you have to do what no one else has tried. We threw out the standard feed rate and chip load calculators. We started from scratch and created a tool that deed conventional knowledge by reaching feed rates and edge quality that previously seemed impossible. e X-Edge Razor was born.

Since then, we applied our “break all the rules” strategy to create tools that excel in every CNC router application. Our product line has expanded dramatically to include router bits, oscillating and drag knives, toolholders, , coolants, cleaning and maintenance items. Our knives and router bits are made with high grade solid carbide that are held to the highest standard. X-Edge Products is dedicated to helping our customers achieve the best possible performance and edge quality results never before seen on a CNC router. CONTENT

CARBIDE DRILL SERIES: Created for the purpose of long life and making perfect drill holes on a CNC router, these solid carbide drill bits don't exhibit the short life, deection, and low quality holes normally associated with standard high speed steel "o the shelf" drill bits.

Most CNC router tooling is not designed for plunging straight downward into the material; doing so will exert high load force onto the face of the bearings causing pre-mature failure. Using proper tools like a designed for plunging will save your spindle from unnecessary wear & tear.

COLLETS

ere is a limited life to any colleting system and all collets should be replaced on a regular basis. Collets should be inspected and cleaned during each tool change and checked for any metal damage such as bellmouthing or in- side burrs. If damage is visible, the collet should be discarded and replaced. Clean collets using collet brushes and a cleaning solution like NU-TOOL™. Keep in mind that for every .0001 over TIR (total indicator runout meaning how much out of balance) you lose 10% of your tool life. Not to mention suered cut quality and shorter spindle life.

Collets can also be damaged without visible signs. e most common problem is metal fatigue. An easy way to see if metal fatigue has occured is to insert the tool shank into the back of the collet and then try it in the front side. If the tightness is not the same both ways, then the collet is fatigued and should be discarded. One major cause of collet metal fatigue is from overtightening. A tool holder tightening stand and torque wrench should always be used.

e loss of gripping pressure is a natural occurence over time simply from use, but it also happens from heat generated by the and also the spindle. e constant heating and cooling of the collet causes the fatigue which in turn causes the collet to lose its gripping power.

Collets should be replaced every 2 to 3 months, based on an 8 hour work day. Replacing collets within the rec- ommended time line will result in longer lasting tools, better cuts, and longer spindle service intervals.

Correct installation of the tool in the collet is of absolute importance. e tool must only be gripped on the shank part of the tool. Never should any part of the ute be inside the collet. e collet should be snapped into the nut before tightening or damage to the collet will occur.

TOOL HOLDERS Tool Holders such as ISO 30, HSK 63F, HSK32E, and HSK25 have additional mating tolerances higher then those of the older style tapers. Because of this, these style tool holders can be more prone to runout caused by resin buildup. ”Fretting” or ”bronzing” will cause inconsistent gripping in the taper and/or the at mating surface and reduce consistency of tool life. If ignored, this will eventually cause premature spindle failure. e mating surfaces should be cleaned with NU-TOOL™ Part 1 and hand dried immediately aerwards. Apply NU-TOOL™ Part 2 to protect tool holders and collets from rusting. Tool holders should be replaced every 1-2 years depending on the amount of use.

A contamination-free toolholder and spindle interface ensures toolholders properly seat at full taper contact and are pulled into the spindle taper at maximum force. With holders held and positioned accurate- ly, a machine’s full power and tolerance capabilities can then eectively and safely transfer to cutting tools, while runout and vibration are reduced for superior part surface nish quality. Shops should clean and inspect tool holders and spindles aer every job. Tool holders should be completely disassembled and cleaned.

TOOL TIPS

TIP #1 Although most router bits can be used on several dierent materials, you should always dedicate a tool* to a given material as it will wear dierently on each. Having multiple of the same tool but using them separately for dierent material types will allow for longer tool life and better edge quality.

TIP #2 When trying to determine direction of cut for an unfamiliar material simply perform a sample cut of a small or circle. Remove the sample and examine both the edge of the part removed and the edge of the mate- rial the part was removed from. If the edge quality of the part you removed is the better edge, you are going the correct direction. If the edge of the hole in the material that you just removed your sample from is the better edge quality, then simply change your direction of cut i.e. climb (clockwise cutting) to conventional (counter clockwise cutting), and cut again. e better edge quality will now change to the part you are cutting.

TIP #3 When trying to achieve the greatest edge quality possible, always utilize a nish pass. To achieve this, you must cut your part slightly larger rst and then perform a nal pass that will "step in" and cut the part to its nal size. For example, when cutting acrylic it is best to cut your part .06" larger on each side (.12" wider, .12" taller) rst, and then follow up with a nal size clean nish cut as illustrated below.

* Router bits are oen referred to as "tools" or "tooling"

RECOMMENDATIONS

ACRYLIC 1. Use the Omega Series when the best edge clarity is desired. 2. Use the Razor Series when good edge quality is preferred but faster speeds are required. 3. Use the Razor Series when edge smoothness is a priority over edge clarity. 4. Use MatriX Mat™ when attempting to cut small parts or when using an undersize vacuum pump. 5. When cutting very small parts use smallest diameter tool possible and utilize "onion skinning"* or "tabbing"* methods.

ALUMINUM 1. Use the Viper 2 ute when cutting 5052, 6061 or harder materials. 2. Use the Viper single ute when cutting 3003 or soer. 3. Use the Viper single ute regardless of material hardness if having problems with material liing while cutting. 4. Use Omega Series downspiral when cutting aluminum thinner than .0625". 5. Use Viper BLACK Series when dry cutting or when extended tool life and/or minimal diameter wearing is required.

CORRUGATED PLASTIC 1. Use the Razor series to cut corrugated plastic cleanly with no plastic tabs protruding from the side. If tabs are witnessed, increase spindle speed until they no longer appear.

ACM 1. Use the Viper 2 ute when best edge quality is desired. 2. Use the Viper single ute when good edge quality is desired but problems with liing material while cutting is observed. 3. Use the Viper BLACK Series for longer tool life. 4. Use the RAZOR Series when highest feed rate is desired and edge quality is a secondary concern.

* Refers to a method of cutting all but a thin "onion skin" of material at the bottom of the part during the rst pass/es and then using a nal pass to cut the rest of the way through.
