It is still very hot in mid- August as we send the magazine off to the Sprinter. But it is ten degrees or more cooler than it has been. Temps in the high eighties and low nineties are a positive change. There are many positive things happening in the Free Grace Movement, and with GES in particular. Grace has been on the go all summer long, as high- lighted in this issue. We had a regional conference in Denver that went very well. You can read about it and see pictures. Unfortunately, most Evangelicals do not know what that means and so they are likely to accept the first point of Calvinism, thinking that total depravity means that we are all sinners and that we are not able to save ourselves (Rom 3:23). But total depravity means much more than that. While most Evangelicals say that one must believe in Jesus in order to be born again, Calvinists say that one must be born again in order to believe. While most Calvinists say that regeneration and faith occur almost simultaneously, they all say that regeneration must precede faith since they do not believe that spiritually dead people can believe. It should be noted that there are some Calvinists who freely say that regeneration might precede faith by quite a long period of time. One Calvinist writer tells of a man whom he believes came to faith 65 years after he was born again! The man supposedly was a born-again unbeliever for over six decades. The Bread of Life Illustration John 6:35 is a showstopper for the first point of Calvinism. After Jesus fed over 5,000 men (plus women and children), many came to Him and asked Him to give them an ongoing supply of bread: “Lord, give us this bread always” (John 6:34). Rickel Senior Honors Project in Music The University of Akron July 24th, 2020 Around the World in 18 Songs An Honors Recital Elizabeth Rickel, soprano Jackson Carruthers, pianist A Note from the Vocalist At the beginning of my research, I began with a few Questions: What makes art and folk songs so important to their respective cultures? How are they similar to each other? How are they different? What is it about this kind of music that makes it so many, no matter the origin of the person or song? The motivation for this project is to shine light on some lesser-known folk songs, build upon my passion for music and language, and to illustrate the power of music, a universal language that we all understand, and in fact rather enjoy, and to illustrate the beauty when culture, language, and music are combined effectively. The goal at the end of my research was to have a full concert set that I can perform for any venue, particularly in schools, where I can talk to young musicians and broaden their horizons in the direction of world music. The songs for this concert were selected on the basis of various factors. Some of these songs were ones that I was already familiar with, either having heard them or performed them previously. Another factor was familiarity with the language, which ranged anywhere from speaking/performing in that language, a language with a similar root, and so on. That being said, I tried to go outside of my comfort zone and pick languages that I was not familiar with.

    1 JOKE: A man was being tailgated by a stressed out woman on a busy boulevard, when suddenly, the light turned yellow, just in front of him. He did the right thing and stopped, even though he could have beaten the red light by accelerating through the intersection. The tailgating woman hit the roof, and the horn, screaming in frustration as she missed her chance to get through the intersection. As she was still in mid-rant, she heard a tap on her window and looked up into the face of a very serious police officer. The officer ordered her to exit her car with her hands up. He took her to the police station where she was searched, finger printed, photographed, and placed in a holding cell. After several hours, a policeman approached the cell and opened the door. She was escorted back to the booking desk where the arresting officer was waiting with her personal effects. He said, I'm very sorry for this mistake. You see, I pulled up behind your car while you were blowing your horn, flipping off the guy in front of you, and cussing a blue streak at him. I noticed the 'Jesus is Lord' license plate, the 'What Would Jesus Do?' bumper sticker, the 'Follow Me to Sunday-School' bumper sticker, and the chrome-plated Christian fish emblem on the trunk. Naturally, I assumed you had stolen the car. And that is what I want to look at this morning, identity. We started a new series entitled Living by the Spirit. ILL PREFACE Upon accepting the chair of Symptomatology in Tin Palmer School of Chiropractic, Davenport, Iowa, I found it difficult for students and others seeking Chiropractic in- formation on diseased conditions to obtain a comprehensive idea of such when they sought their information in medical text-books. That is, they were able to find an accurate de- scription of the pathology and its accompanying symptoms, but were unable to apply the Chiropractic idea or philosophy to such conditions. The aim of this volume, as indicated by its title, is that the student, practitioner and layman may obtain a concise, yet comprehensive, explanation of incoordinations from a Chiropractic standpoint. This volume is exclusively de- voted to the subject of Symptomatology and should not be considered as an authority on philosophy. Many of the theories advanced here have been derived or suggested from Dr. Palmer's works on philosophy, which are the only works published on that subject. It is very essential that the introductory chapter and the chapter on preliminary considerations be read and studied first, as therein are contained the fundamental principles upon which subsequent deductions are based.
