Special Pricing for B.C.H.R.A. Members

North Shore News to carry on as the editorial coverage and advertise the BCHRA name at no cost to the club. This was proposed by Jim Greenwood and seconded by Doug Poirer. COFFEE BREAK & 50/50 DRAW:

The winner of the 50/50 pot was Sid Perrins. The pot was $145.50. Sid made a generous donation back to the coffee fund. Thanks Sid for your generosity.

Ken Dosen spoke to us about the B.C. Professional firefighters burn run on July 18th. Meet at Trev Deeley motorcycle 1875 Boundary Rd at 11:00 for registration and leaving at 12:00. All hotrods and motorcycles are welcome.

Tom Whiffin reported on the Old Times Drags sponsored by the Langley Loafers and the Cache Creek Graffiti days. It was a great turn out. Race cars and hot rods came from Washington, North California, B.C. and Alberta. Our boys from the club that had successful runs were Colin Ketchum from Quesnel with his black Willy’s 2 door sedan, Jim Mason from Cloverdale with his yellow 33 sedan, Doug Yazlovasky from Langley with his green pick up, Nick Yazlovasky (nephew) with his 50 ford, Murray Zimmerman from Surrey with his yellow 55 Chev. Visitors from Northern California took time out to talk with Doug about his 50 ford. It was brought to my attention that Big John Moore was doing his usual task of keeping an eye out for Jim and Murray making sure they behaved. Could this be true? Everyone met at 3:00 at the track, drove through town and met in Cache Creek for the presentation of the awards which was done on the Saturday.

Good Deeds turn into more Good Deeds:

Bruce Metcalfe from Prince George on his trip to Ashcroft developed car trouble in Vancouver. He called Tom Whiffin who got in touch with Tom Rigby-Jones who graciously let Bruce use his garage to work on his Model A pick up. Al Brown helped with the technical advise. After 3 days, the problem was solved. The carb. got fixed and Bruce was on his way again to Ashcroft.

Rick Green spoke about the A&W Newton July 4th show and shine. About 125 cars attended, and it went very smoothly and was very relaxed according to Rick. About $10,000 was raised for the Parkinsons fund.

KMS Tools Show & Shines (reminder) every Friday evening 5:30 – 9:00 Langley #110 19860 Langley Bypass (previous Java Hut location).

Dan London and Bill Townsend met with Greg Gilks director (Commercial Vechicle Safety and Enforcement) about 3 months ago on the subject of fenderless cars. Stating something has to be done to assist all the effort by other organizations working with government bureaucracy to change legislation, especially for the up coming Days (and hopefully to change the current legislation). A letter has been written by Greg stating the CVSE will not enforce this law from July 14 until July 20. See letter below. There is another meeting in September with Bill T. and Dan L. with Greg trying to get the current legislation changed forever allowing fenderless cars not to be fined at the current situation.

August meeting will be held at Ken Ransford’s place 7455 253St. Aldergrove Phone 604-856-6208.

************************************************************************************** RAMBLIN’s from THE PREZ… July 2010

Have to get going early on this as I missed June deadline for the Headliner…too much going on & too little time…on the other hand, just maybe the lousy late spring weather was playing hell with my efficiency.

Since early June… we hit the MSA Ford deal on June 6th, with Shantz putting on another great event and, in fact, the best goodie bag yet !!!! June 13th was the Len’s Dog Day Afternoon in Abbotsford with another rainy day to drive home in…next w/e went to Qualicum/Parksville for Father’s Day by Seaside Cruizers and was totally impressed with the 650 car turnout, combined with their “put it together” skills made for an awesome w/e…Friday nite Cruise was a hoot and, best of all, got to meet up with some “old time” BCHRA members…and the weather was on our side…to Vernon over July long w/e for family stuff, but did take the RPU in the trailer behind motorhome.

And does it get busy now…heading out Thurs July 8th w/Shantz for Lethbridge to join up with the Cdn Hot Rod Tour gang and looking fwd to hooking up with BCHRA members there and various “ on way “ point …home the next Wed July 14th, but just overnite….time for laundry & lawn cutting…off to DD’s in Victoria Thurs July 15th, DD’s cruise to Courtenay on Fri 16th, and so on.

With the good weather beaming on us, really looking fwd to the Lethbridge trip and re-meeting fellow hotrodders from various Ontario & US locales…talk about hard-core dudes as several are making the drive in topless roadsters !!!!

Upcoming BCHRA events are finalizing plans, so a strong turnout of members, hopefully including out-of- towners which has been rumoured, will ensure successes for both Park Royal and our Annual BCHRA Picnic…Park Royal on August 21st is Hot Rod Saturday and OPEN to ALL RODDERS, with a proposed sponsorship by North Shore News which has been approved by your Executive at our last meeting and to be presented to General Membership at July 6th meeting…very exciting…Ken Green has stepped fwd to head up our Picnic Committee and is rapidly putting everything together, including LIVE MUSIC for everyone’s entertainment, for this Sept 12th event to be held at our usual West Langley Hall & adjacent Park, so lousy weather shudn’t be a factor.

An IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT (made at July Gen Memberhip meeting, but included here for benefit of out-of-town members) is that the initial step(s) have been taken to LEGALIZE FENDERLESS hot rods in BC….as BCHRA is the largest organized voice on this issue in BC, BCHRA and Duece Days NorthWest organizer, Al Clarke, have put forward “sponsorship names“ on this endeavour which has now resulted in a July 2nd , 2010 letter from MOT Enforcement Branch to all law enforcement officials on Vanc Island effectively put a “non-enforcement“ moratorium in place for fenderless cars during the DD’s period this is a HUGE STEP FORWARD on this issue and the BC Transportation Minister is welcoming input which could result in revising current legislation to provide for fenderless hot rods…to this end, current timing could see a Committee type approach to Victoria in late summer and keep the momentum going as we are aware, the “gears of gov’t“ are not always the most expedient, however, key gov’t officials appear to be keen to get this over-looked item attended to…will keep all posted on progress.

Our 2nd BCHRA/Barnes Cruise In Nite was held on Sat June 26th in great weather, good grits from Barnes and awesome R&R live music from Richard Stepp…unfortunately, a relatively low turnout by BCHRA members, so this needs to be rectified for our upcoming July 31st Cruise In Nite…live music once again by Richard and he’s putting on a great show for all.

Food for Thought Dept…over the past several years, your BCHRA Executive has been putting forwards names for LifeTime Membership Awards and/or Honorary Memberships…I’d ask all members to give some thought & put forward members names for these Awards, via email or tel call, etc…we do have a short list started for 2011 Awards, but realize we can’t think of everyone deserving and also don’t have a long term background in BCHRA on some of the old-timers…so give this some thought & let us know.

5 Lastly, it has been pointed out to me that as more BCHRA members wear BCHRA hats/jackets/tee’s and show decals, many have not met these members or know each other…totally understandable in a large club like ours…so if you’re at a show/car gathering/meeting or whatever, and you see BCHRA displayed by a fellow hotrodder, make a point of introducing yourself, having a chat, a beer or what have you…we’re all PROUD BCHRA members and the more you know, the more you’ll like it …you’ll just never know how a brief conversation will turn up a part you’ve been looking for, a tip on your hot rod or a group of BCHRA members planning to head out for an Event. So it’s off to Lethbridge.

Leaded Racing Fuel Update June 2010 In 2008 we helped in obtaining an extension for the use of competition leaded racing fuel. In 2010 we presented detailed written requests to the Federal Government asking that the leaded racing fuel ban be extended for an additional five years. We learned on June 19 2010 that the fuel extension has been approved for an undetermined length of time. I spoke to Mr. Leif Stephanson, Manager, Fuels Section, Oil, Gas and Alternative Energy Division for Environment Canada on June 28, 2010; he said the ban was for an undetermined amount of time but would be re-evaluated within the next five year timeframe. This is a huge win for the hobby. A special thanks goes out to all of the clubs, associations and stakeholders who helped make this possible. The NAACC is part of the government impute process and is a current Stakeholder.

Princeton just had its 10th Annual Car Show on Saturday July 3, 2010. We had a great turn out, with 176 cars from all over. The weather was GREAT sunny with a few cloudy periods but no rain. Lots of door prizes, hamburgers and hot dogs. Once again we had the Blues Brothers entertain us. Hope to see more of you next year and this GREAT show.

PS…. Six cars went to Hope from Princeton on July 1. It rained the whole way there and back, but we all had a good time. We stopped at East Gate Diner on the way home for fries and gravy. Tom Whiffin ************************************************************************************** There is another Cruise-In Night at Barnes Harley, 200th & Hwy 1 on Sat. July 31st (also Aug. 28th & possibly Sept 25 weather permitting). Live R&R music by Richard Stepp. Open to ALL Hotrodders. 5:00. **************************************************************************************

7 Dear Collector Car Enthusiast:

The ability to measure the economic impact of the collector car hobby is a critical tool in helping transform historic vehicle ownership from a hobby into a movement. Putting a dollar amount on the impact of buying, selling, maintaining, restoring, showing and driving historic vehicles will give the hobby a powerful tool to safeguard the future of collecting and fight off detrimental regulations

That’s why we are conducting the first-of-its-kind comprehensive economic impact survey of the historic vehicle community in the United States and Canada. The results of the survey will significantly benefit every part of the hobby.

The survey only takes a few minutes to complete and is done entirely online by going to the secure link at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/HVA_EconSurvey2010 or by visiting www.historicvehicle.org and clicking on the survey button. The individual information collected will be kept strictly confidential and will not be shared or used for any type of product marketing. Results will be available by Aug. of this year.

The survey is being conducted through the Historic Vehicle Association (HVA), which is an independent affiliate of the Hagerty Plus program. The HVA provides a collaborative, unified platform among enthusiasts and support for the various organizations, institutions and activities that allow us to enjoy historic motoring.

You can help by forwarding the link to your club members and to anyone else who is passionate about protecting the hobby. Thank you in advance for your help and support with this important project. We look forward to working with you to protect, promote and preserve the future of the hobby.

************************************************************************************** Dear BC Hot Rod Association,

Since we receive such great support from organizations such as yours, we feel it is important to keep in touch from time to time and tell you what is achieved through our joint efforts.

We are now coming to the end of another successful year and have some exciting projects in mind for the future. Some 75 special needs children have benefited from therapeutic riding programs during the year. We are currently working with over 12 very special horses and are looking for more. This is all achieved with a great team of skilled trainers and over 70 volunteers.

We will be holding our Annual Horse Show on Saturday 26th June from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm or later. We would be delighted to see our friends and supporters and our special needs children would be most proud to show off what they are achieving. It should be lots of fun. You can find more details and the exact address on our website, http://www.vtea.ca

We very much appreciate whatever help you have been able to give us in the past and know that you will not forget us in the future. Thank you once more.

If this message should more appropriately have gone to some other person in your organization, then we hope you will forward it and let us know so that we can update our records.
