Nonprofit Security Grant Program Threat Incident Report: January 2019 to Present November 15, 2020 (Updated 02/22/2021) Prepared By: Rob Goldberg, Senior Director, Legislative Affairs [email protected] The following is a compilation of recent threat incidents, at home or abroad, targeting Jews and Jewish institutions (and other faith-based organization) that have been reported in the public record. When completing the Threat section of the IJ (Part III. Risk): ▪ First Choice: Describe specific terror (or violent homegrown extremist) incidents, threats, hate crimes, and/or related vandalism, trespass, intimidation, or destruction of property that have targeted its property, membership, or personnel. This may also include a specific event or circumstance that impacted an affiliate or member of the organization’s system or network. ▪ Second Choice: Report on known incidents/threats that have occurred in the community and/or State where the organization is located. ▪ Third Choice: Reference the public record regarding incidents/threats against similar or like institutions at home or abroad. Since there is limited working space in the IJ, the sub-applicant should be selective in choosing appropriate examples to incorporate into the response: events that are most recent, geographically proximate, and closely related to their type or circumstance of their organization or are of such magnitude or breadth that they create a significant existential threat to the Jewish community at large. I. Capable of incorporating Afro-Cuban and Latin-American rhythms into the Jazz idiom, Alex has also worked in a variety of musical genres from Pop to Rock, Theatre to Jazz. Along with his performances as a leader with his band AfroMantra, Alex has shared the stage with important bands and artists in the New York’s Latin-Jazz Scene. Major performance, recording and composition accomplishments include Cuban trombonist and composer, Juan Pablo Torres also Grammy nominee singer song writer Juan Carlos Formell, Alex Foster (Jaco Pastorius, Steps Ahead), Tony Cimorosi, Frank Colón (Weather Report, Manhattan Transfer, Wayne Shorter), Omar Hakim (Sting, Madonna, Weather Report), Victor Bailey (Madonna, Weather Report), Rachel Z (Steps Ahead), Marcus Miller (Miles Davis), Najee, Oriente Lopez. El cine en español en los Estados Unidos Roberto Fandiño y Joaquín Badajoz Siglo XX: los hispanos Roberto Fandiño Introducción Como parte de un continente en el que la mayoría de los países son de habla española, era de esperar que, apenas surgido el cine sonoro en los Estados Unidos, nuestro idioma hicie- ra sentir en él su presencia. Se empezó por frases ocasionalmente pronunciadas en el con- texto del idioma inglés cuando una situación lo requería. Hallar esos momentos obligaría a rastrear entre películas parcial o enteramente desaparecidas o conservadas en precarias condiciones; un material que corresponde al período experimental —entre 1926 y 1929—, cuando la industria, en posesión de una técnica viable y segura, decide cambiar todas las estructuras y hacer que las películas se realicen y se proyecten con un sonido sincrónico que reproduce los sonidos ambientales y, sobre todo, las voces de los artistas que nos ha- blan desde la pantalla. Sabemos que desde sus inicios, además de las frases ocasionales incluidas con un sentido realista en películas habladas en inglés, se hicieron cortos musicales en los que, por su im- portancia, no podían faltar las canciones en nuestro idioma. Poco tiempo después, por ne- cesidades primordialmente comerciales, se llegó a las películas íntegramente habladas en español. Entre las sorpresas desagradables que trajo el sonoro a la industria estadounidense se hallaba la posibilidad de perder el mercado de los países donde no se hablaba inglés, que hasta ese momento habían podido disfrutar sin barreras de un arte basado en la univer- salidad de la imagen y en unos rótulos, fáciles de traducir a otros idiomas, que especifica- ban los diálogos o aclaraban situaciones. -

Johnny “Dandy” Rodriguez Jr. (Percussion & Band Leader) Johnny “Dandy” Rodriguez Jr. (1945, United States), is a Latin percussionist from New York City. At 17 years old Johnny earned a position playing bongos in the Tito Puente Orchestra. Johnny spent over 30 years with the Tito Puente Orchestra, also working with Tito Rodriguez from 1965 to 1968 and with Ray Barretto from 1970 until the end of 1972. Johnny went on to form ‘Tipica 73’ band in 1972, which he was with until 1979. Following this he went back to work with Tito Puente,[1] playing alongside him until the time of his death in May 2000. Nonprofit Security Grant Program Threat Incident Report: January 2019 to Present November 15, 2020 (Updated 02/05/2021) Prepared By: Rob Goldberg, Senior Director, Legislative Affairs [email protected] The below Threat Chronology is intended to assist applicants in responding to the “Threat” question in Part III (A) of the Investment Justification (“making the case”): The applicant should discuss the identification and substantiation of prior threats or attacks against the organization or a closely related organization by a terrorist organization, network, or cell (this would also include Violent Homegrown Extremists). Note: Proofs should include any findings from a previously conducted risk assessment, police findings, and/or insurance claims specific to the location. Absent direct threats, a sub-applicant may substantiate the threat through the public record, as discussed below. Recommendations (in order of priority): In answering this question, a sub-applicant should (in order or priority): 1. Describe specific terror (or violent homegrown extremist) incidents, threats, hate crimes, and/or related vandalism, trespass, intimidation, or destruction of property that have targeted its property, membership, or personnel.
