The third phase of building the Bulgarian network of Research Mobility Centres (RMC) includes developing the regional level much further, and identifying focal points in various research centres and universities in the region. This report summarises the efforts made by the time being by the regional RMC in Sofia, Stara Zagora, Varna and Rousse.

1. Focal points in South-West Bulgaria The Regional research mobility center for South-west Bulgaria, situated in the University of national and world economy, established contacts with the institutions in the table in the second report period /01.02.-01.12.2006/.

2. Focal points in South Central Bulgaria The regional RMC for South Central Bulgaria is cituated in Stara Zagora at the Trakia University – DIITT. The RMC staff made significant efforts since its establishment to make it well known and used in South Central Region. For achieving this, were established contacts with governmental institutions, business and research institutions and organizations, universities, colleges and other high school organizations in the region. At the beginning, the project team’s members prepared a special letter with information about the new regional Research Mobility Centre, its main objectives, functions and services. This letter in electronic variant was sent to all representatives of the research organizations in South Central region – universities (“Paisij Hilendarski – Plovdiv and Trakia University – to all faculties), all higher institutes in Plovdiv, research institutes and colleges. A special emphasis was put on the communication to researchers’ associations, e.g. the Union of Scientists in Bulgaria – Stara Zagora Branch and Scientific and the Technical Union in Bulgaria – Stara Zagora Branch. Close relations were established with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry – Stara Zagora Branch and the Association of Medical Students in Stara Zagora. During the preparation of the regional seminar within the ‘Researchers in Europe’ 2005 Initiative contacts were also made with the regional business organizations, secondary schools and vocational colleges. 3. Focal points in Eastern Bulgaria

The regional RMC for Eastern Bulgaria is situated in Varna at the Technical University of Varna and is called Center for International Relations and Mobility (CIRM). The project team has done a lot of work to popularize the Center. Contacts have been established with a number of HEIs (universities, colleges and high schools), research institutes, researchers’ associations, governmental institutions, business organizations in the region, etc., mentioned in the table below. All these institutions have been informed about the foundation of a regional RMC for Eastern Bulgaria in Varna, its objectives, functions and services offered with letters sent by post, fax or e-mail. They have expressed their interest and willingness to become a part of the national RMC network and have named their representatives who should participate in the seminars organized by CIRM. The regional RMC for Eastern Bulgaria intends to organize two regional seminars – the first one (on 27.09.2005 at TU-Varna) was part of the information rally within the initiative “Researchers in Europe’2005”, while the second one is forthcoming in April.

4. Focal points in Northern Bulgaria

The Regional Centre for mobility of researchers for North Bulgaria is located in the city of Rousse, at the “Angel Kanchev” University of Rousse – Centre for International Cooperation and Mobility. Since its establishment in 2005 the staff involved carried out promotional activities in the region to make the Centre known both to the scientific and public community of the Region. After the initial contacts made and after mailing the message of the Rector of the University of Rousse Professor M. Todorov to the relevant scientific units of the North Region of Bulgaria, the project team was able to elaborate the list of institutions and contact persons given below, thus preparing itself for the forthcoming regional Seminar.
