Due to COVID-19, the fam- ily opted for a small family wedding. They asked their neighbors to help celebrate while social distancing. It was a complete surprise to Nic Leppke and Courtney when they made their exit from her parents’ house to horns blaring, homemade signs and headlights flashing. Courtney’s par- ents, Scott and Kim Beall, loaded them in the back of their Durango with the hatch up and drove them thru the neigh- borhood where about 98 percent of the neighbors participated. “It was a wed- ding to remember,” Kim said. Courtney’s dress was from a high school function, because her wedding dress was in quaran- tine at alterations.

He is still my coach to this day.” Another freshman, Zach Davis, compet- ed in eight indoor meets at Texas A&M. He cleared 16 feet in six of eight meets entered. But the NCAA granted us an extra year, so I have three indoor seasons left and four outdoor seasons left.” Davis said college vaulting was “crazy dif- ferent” due to the competition. “In high school, most of the time my opening height was good enough to win,” Davis said. “But in college, I would go out (finish his jumps) and a lot of vaulters would pass me. The competition is crazy good. All of the best vaulters in the country were at the Texas meet, but I love the competition.” Davis also credits Rhodes — his pole vault coach since seventh grade — for his success. “I would not be where I am without Coach Rhodes,” he said. “He definitely made the difference.
