Bounded by vastly stretched forest of Sal, Akashmoni and Eucalyptus on one side, the college is situated in the midst of a green meadow of Kuchlachati, about 1.5 Km. towards the eastern side of the Prembazar Health Centre. For quite some time, the residents of Hijli Co-operative society, Sonamukhi, Kuchlachati and many other localities around, have been facing severe problems owing to the absence of an academic institution in the region, which would provide higher education to their wards. Concerned at this scenario, a group of dedicated, academic people came forward for the establishment of a college in the region. As a result, Hijli College came into existence. Since its inception, the college endeavours to provide quality education concerning the fundamental conditions of human existence in the changing perspectives. This is of immense importance especially for the educationally disadvantaged students of the backward area where it is located. The students of Hijli College, affiliated to Vidyasagar University, Midnapore, have fared extremely well at the university level examination consistently. 2. PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE Welcome to Hijli College, an institution started with noble ideals and committed to maintain high standards in teaching, learning, training and research. Hijli College is for those who shall be pioneers, for those who shall experiment with the cutting edge of contemporary thought and creative expression, for those who shall dare give shape to their aspirations and cherished dreams. The corridors of Hijli College continue to resound with the footfalls of generations of young, the alumna who ventured forth to uphold these traditions of Hijli College and be achievers in their chosen field of enterprise. Dr. Asis Kumar Dandapat, At Hijli College we believe that each student is special Principal and has the potential to excel in many ways. Then the touchstone of all our programme is active engagement that 2 PROSPECTUS - 2021-2022 nurtures individual talent. We impart formal education with a difference even as we work within the constraints of a traditional university system. Through carefully crafted interaction and activities within and outside the classroom, we provide experiences that help the student discover innate capabilities, set life-long goals and proactively work towards their fulfilment. Hijli College is reputed for providing quality liberal education in the humanities and the basic sciences. The academic life is rigorous and designed to lay a firm conceptual foundation and provide professional expertise necessary for adapting to the challenging work place. The college has as its excellent infrastructure; the teaching laboratories and general facilities are one of the best. The faculty is experienced, committed, distinguished and the support staff, the backbone of the college, is dedicated. The teaching-learning programmes are marked with personal mentoring; students are encouraged to work in collaborative teams and learn from peers. The emphasis is on innovative teaching strategies that provide experiential learning through project work, field work and case studies. The college has several career oriented programmes; IIT- NPTEL courses; it will soon be introducing adjunct modules to enrich and add value to the degree programmes. The students can pursue these in conjunction with their regular course of studies. Life at Hijli College, however, is not just an academic fire-wall. At any time, the campus remains suffused with vibrant energy as the entire community revels in the creative pursuit of co-curricular activities with equal vigour. Amateur activities often verge on the professional and provide the forum for launch of artistic careers. Then there can be no better place than Hijli College to spend one's formative years. We hope the following pages would inspire you to join the fraternity. When you are with us, we promise to share with you what we have learnt and, in turn, learn from you what you would share with us. Long after you have left Hijli College, you will cherish memories of the alma mater and rely on the life-long support structure provided by a unique peer group and by a caring faculty & support staff who shall be your friends and mentors. I find it extremely exciting and satisfying to be a member of the Hijli College community. As a Principal, I view my role as a catalyst to provoke and draw the best of the inherent and latent potential of the Hijli College community.
