Created as a State University in 1981, the fledgeling institution flourished rapidly. Having begun on a modest scale in 1985-86, with six post-graduate departments, the University now conducts studies in frontier and interdisciplinary areas of science, social science, humanities and commerce, spread across twenty seven PG departments.
